http://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/400729-fox-is-in-discussions-to-revive-the-x-files

Fox TV Group chairman Gary Newman announced today at the channel’s TCA presentation that they’re in talks to revive Chris Carter’s classic TV series, “The X-Files.” Newman added that they would like to bring back David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, but that’s not confirmed. No further details were given about the discussions.

Running from 1993 to 2002, “The X-Files” ran for 202 episodes with a feature film set between seasons 5 and 6 and a second movie hitting theaters in 2008. Starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, “The X-Files” garnered 21 Emmy nominations while on the air, featured a spin-off series “The Lone Gunmen,” and debuted countless comics, video games, and other merchandise.

That is all :panic:

Maybe this will give a boost to the new X-files anthologies Jonathan Maberry is editing. I have a story in the second one, due out late this year.

I watched the first two seasons recently as prep for writing my story. Impressed by how it stands up. I'm nearly through the third season. But I'm also watching Californication (Duchovny) and The Fall (Anderson) at the same time, which can really mess with your head.

My all-time # 1 television series - ever.

I do hope they'll leave it alone.
It was a great run and a new series can only disappoint.

This is indeed great news! And coincidentally, I've been rewatching the original series on Netflix. I was surprised how vividly I remembered the first 2 seasons.
Currently on season 7, episode 8.

I used to look forward to Sunday nights because of The X-Files and was bummed when it went off the air.
I'm excited that we'll get to revisit the show, even if only for a short period.

I tried rewatching it on DVD and i only made it a few episodes in...after the awesomeness that is Toombs, I lost interest. The show was at it's best in and around when Fight The Future was released. I wasn't too keen on most of the first season :/

There are so many great episodes that I had forgotten about until I watched the show on Netflix recently. One of them is the two-parter Dreamland where he swapped bodies with Michael McKean's character. That was a great one. :)

I rewatched the first two seasons as research for my story in Jonathan Maberry's anthology and I was impressed enough to keep going. I'm up to Season 4 now. Hopefully I'll be all caught up by the time the new series runs.

The guy who played Cancer Man says he hopes they go back in time to earlier adventures, so he can be in it!

Just a heads up for the netflix viewers. Unless they fixed it in the last month, Netflix has no subtitles for the Xfiles so you're missing all the foreign language translation and location details. Hulu is the better option for watching the show, if you in fact have a Hulu subscription.

http://www.theverge.com/2015/4/23/8486441/netflix-begins-streaming-the-x-files-in-hd

Streaming on Netflix in the US now: HD versions of the first 13 episodes of the greatest TV show of all time. You know, The X-Files.

The baker's dozen is appropriate for the 90s paranoia-fest, which stars David Duchovny as Agent Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson as Agent Dana Scully, the two detectives attached to the titular files — which concerned all things paranormal. Though it originally aired in 4:3, the HD version suggests it was shot in widescreen and cropped for broadcast. Scully's furrowed brow and Mulder's pouty lower lip never looked better.

The first two seasons of The X-Files were extremely low-budget; many of the special effects were essentially strobe lights and tarp. But the special effects were never the point — when you know you have to create scares on a bare-bones budget, you write tension into the script. Early episodes like "Ice" work precisely because of the financial constraints placed on the show.

It's not clear why only the first 13 episodes are being offered in HD, but I'll take what I can get.

It's streaming on Netflix (and probably elsewhere), and has been on DVD. Also may be coming to blu-ray soon. The original show I mean. The revival will be on TV and on demand.

Plus, brand new Chris Carter interview:

From Wikipedia:

In the comic book adaptation of the series The X-Files Season 10—which takes place after the events of The X-Files: I Want to Believe—it is revealed that the Lone Gunmen are alive and well, having faked their deaths during the events of "Jump the Shark". The group was aided by the FBI and have since been working underground, aiding the US government; for instance, Langly mentions that he was responsible for the Stuxnet virus in 2010.

I enjoyed the second as well; missed part of the first one - forgot to add extra time - dang that football game. I'm hoping things will tie in, unless of course if the viewer response s big enough to garner another short season.

https://tvline.com/2020/08/28/x-files-albuquerque-animated-spinoff-series-fox/

The two-dimensional truth is out there.

An animated comedy spinoff of The X-Files is in development at Fox, with series creator Chris Carter attached to exec-produce (but not write/showrun), TVLine has learned exclusively. Titled The X-Files: Albuquerque, the ‘toon offshoot — which has received a script and presentation commitment from Fox — will not revolve around David Duchovny‘s Mulder and Gillian Anderson‘s Scully. Rather, the potential series will center an office full of misfit agents who investigate X-Files cases too wacky, ridiculous or downright dopey for Mulder and Scully to bother with. They’re essentially the X-Files’ B-team.

Rocky Russo and Jeremy Sosenko (Netflix’s Paradise PD) will pen the pilot and serve as EPs alongside Carter and former X-Files scribe Gabe Rotter. Bento Box serves as the animation studio.

The live-action X-Files ran for nine seasons on Fox (1993-2002), spawned two feature films (in 1998 and 2008) before eventually returning 2016 for the first two revival seasons. In 2018, shortly after the conclusion of the second revival season, Fox’s then-CEO Gary Newman announced that “there are no plans to do another season at the moment.” Newman’s comments came on the heels of Anderson declaring that Season 11 (aka the second revival season) represented her swan song as Scully.

Carter, however, was not ready to declare the franchise dead and buried. “I can’t imagine there wouldn’t be more X-Files, in some shape or form,” he told TVLine at the time. “I think there are lots more stories to tell and ways to tell them. I’m leaving this as a giant cliffhanger, and Gillian has announced that she’s not coming back. Hard-core X-Files fans know there have been no real endings on the show.”
