Well, since if you die at home the dog will most likely eat you, I will be happy to bring the dog with a "Hannibal Lecter" mask on it. LOL You're bringing the babes and the weed, right? LOL

Austin is quite the pretty and nice place; Hill Country they call it. If there is a place to stay near the event, stay there. Don't risk getting delayed in traffic because nothing moves at certain times of the day. Seriously. Traffic in Dallas is bad and all but I know how to get around on side roads, etc. NOT Austin though - seriously nothing moves. I would never want to live there but it is great to visit! ....also beware...if "hipsters" get on your nerves easily, wear blinders :D Being November in Austin you will either need shorts/t-shirt/sunscreen or a heavy parka and snow shoes.

"Being November in Austin you will either need shorts/t-shirt/sunscreen or a heavy parka and snow shoes."

so true... Nov... could be 95, could be 28 degrees... all within a 24 hour period. Couple years ago, went swimming in my pool day before thanksgiving... then it snowed on Thanksgiving day.

and yes...Austin Rush hour traffic is the worst anywhere I've been - as bad or worse than LA or Houston - Luckily the event is on Saturday...If the Longhorns were playing in Austin... it'd be just as bad as rush hour, luckily they are playing at OU state. However - stay off I-35 if at all possible... it's always a train wreck - clogged on weekends with pass through traffic and at night with the 6th street party crowd...especially since all the colleges are back (we have 7 of them in the area including UT).

Hello, is there anyone here that lives in Austin? I am in Florida the day before the event and I might be able to swing through for the event before returning to Canada. It would help if I can connect with someone locally! I will do my best to make it worth your while with a unique Stephen King item!

Please feel free to PM me privately.

I once stood next to a guy at a concert who I later found out was one of the Netherlands' tallest men - I think he was 2.35 m (7'8.5") tall. I'm only 5'11" so the top of my head barely reached his chest. Freaky....

Austin is the liberal capital of Texas... lots of HighTech, lots of transplants from California and all over. It's not anything like the rest of Texas.

We do have great BBQ - but there's everything from Tex-Mex,Indian, fish, great mexican, diners and dives.
From trailer-flood-trucks... to just-how-fuckin-high-is your-credit-card-limit-hoddy-totty-pretty-food restaurants.

if you're into celebs- Sandra Bullock owns Bett's restaurant on 6th street...and Vince Young has his steakhouse... (but I'm not paying 60-70 bucks for a hunk of cow)

anyway... if you don't like BBQ - there's plenty of other choices.. (well over 4000 places to eat).
If you do like BBQ - can't beat the all you can eat at either one of the County Lines or the Salt Licks restaurants... Both will fill you up for under 25 bucks.

or, you can go cheap for the 4.99 cow-tit specials - Steak and boobs at one of the topless bars....food is cheap... but the service costs ya.

Didn't he do one in, Dallas for "11/22/63"?? Other than that one I agree, he doesn't seem to get there much. Matter of fact, has he ever done one in the Phoenix area, since I've been here, 2005 forward?

Love to hear them!! I swear to, God I once got in a cab in D.C. that had a fucking "goat" in it!!! Naturally, I took the next one. The guy was from "Senegal". I swear that morning he was running from a fucking lion in Africa and then later that day driving a cab in D.C.!!! LOL BTW, and you can't make this shit up, he told me the goat' name was, Ari!!! No offense, Ari!! Life is stranger than fiction.

Edit: I swear to God the above is a true story. The guy said it was a religous thing (from what I could make out. His english wasn't "top notch"). I said "Well, take your faith with you, cause I ain't riding with a fucking goat"!!! LOL

sharki.... congrads....

we had some DT people at the front of the line - I was #15

we talked about going down the line to find out who else was there from the site... but we decided not to look like crazed people.

I believe it was "BROWNINGS CHILDE" that came in from Lubbock and was in front of me. They got there about 2 to 3 am, I rolled in at 5:00 am... going to be a long long day for me at work now.

so.... Fess up, Who else was there?????

Sir_Boomme

and yes... they handed wrist bands out... each person got 1 wrist band... no wrist band no ticket.... one ticket per person was enforced.
I overheard someone mention they had paid several of their college neighbors 100.000 each to stand in line and get tickets, so I'm guessing you might see tickets available on ebay - but they'll probably be north of 100 bucks.

since we were at the front of the line, we were trying to talk the organizers into letting us get our books and then let us go to the back of the line and go through again... unfortunately they didn't allow us to do that and I'm pretty sure by the time they opened the doors, all 400 wristbands had been distributed.

I'm willing to bet you could find some tickets for sale on the secondary market... I'd watch ebay and the Austin craigslist over the next couple of days.

I was able to secure two, and it was great to meet you, Terry. My wife talked me into driving down after the announcement, despite the fact that I had already given up on getting to go since tickets were only on sale on site. My mom was good enough to make an unplanned trip to Austin with me. So 8 hours later we arrived in Austin at about 2 am, to find only about 5 people in line. We were afraid to leave and come back, sooooo 7 hours in line, but got to have a lot of good conversation with folks as obsessed with King as I am, including our own Sir Boome. Then, an 8 hour trip back to Lubbock, but.....I got a golden ticket, I got a golden ticket!

Awww, now I feel bad. FWIW I knew what it felt like yesterday. Not a good feeling at all. Hang in there, maybe destiny will find a way to smile on you as well. I was way down in the dumps, and now I am in the clouds. You just never know what can happen. So have faith!!!

Because of all the restrictions put on ticket purchases, I won't be attending this signing now, very bummed about this, not only sad about missing King but also about missing out on getting to socialize with diehard King fans, oh well hopefully there will be another tour next year, fingers crossed!

but if you guys are staying overnight, you might want to coordinate with RF and any others and stay in the same hotel - which is always fun. If there is enough of you, you might even get a group rate.

Just a thought.

We absolutely need to meet at a pub/restaurant ~11am the day of event. I think the line starts at 3pm, and signing at 5pm. Same thing with getting together after the event. I'm guessing the signing will be over by ~7pm.

I looked at rooms close to the event and they are very pricey. $250-$350 (+ tax and also $25 parking) for hotels < 1/2 mile from event. Holiday Inn Express is $120. It's a few miles away, but my wife is happy to be my DD. Free breakfast too.

But!.... you can't come to Austin and eat a motel breakfast! what's up with that????

You'll definitely want to hit:
Magnolia's Cafe,
or Kerbey lane Cafe,
or Hyde Park Cafe (aka. the Fork),
or Star Seeds... looks like a Dive, but the food is great...
or Round Rock Donuts (best donuts I've had anywhere puts those Krispy Cremers to shame)
or...etc, etc
but definitely NOT stale bagels from the hotel breakfast bar..... defeats one of the purpose's for coming to Austin

BTW... you can find lodging a lot cheaper (60-80 bucks or less) on the North side of town - up toward Pflugerville where I live.
you'd just have to drive through town to from the event... but I have to do that myself

yep... I've lived here long enough to see the old Armadillo World Headquarters give birth to Willie Nelson and Stevie Ray Vaughn.... not to mention seeing AC/DC play their first American gig there.

Though I have to admit... in the past decade, Austin has been changing faster than I could keep up with. Definitely not the quirky little city it was when I moved here in the 70's . :(

Special attendees at the Austin event will receive a limited edition DT.Org bookmark, postcard and a (not so limited) business card. All three pieces are two-sided and were created by Webstar1000 using artwork from Darek Kocurek.
The bookmark is UV coated (forgive me if that's the wrong technical description), and has a nice tassel.

He is right they are UV coated (also in a 14pt clay glossed card stock... nice and thick) but the bookmarks are laminated in a thick covering. I wanted them to feel more substantial. The idea is that once in the vicinity of the venue, we will get together. I've looked at a couple of places and will make a suggestion soon.
That particular area is rife with restaurants, bars, pubs and coffee shops.
I could also do a text group to mass announce things. I would need each persons cell number.
Long story short, more info in the next 3-5 days.

If you want old time dive great food... Star seeds meets that... but is off I-35 and not in the direct area.

hula is a fun river front restaurant... but more fun when it's warm and there's boaters and chicks in bikinis

not sure what you guys plan Sat. night... but if it's music/drinking....

Can you make sure that when we meet for the first time that a "Scoobie-Doo Thong" is not on your person in any way, shape or form? I would be deeply appreciative if that were the case. Also. I do not want to know, in the least, what a "Scoobie-Doo" thong is or represents. Fair enough? LOL LOL LOL

oh alright... it's getting about time to wash that one anyways... I'll switch it out for my Mighty Mouse T-Back instead....just for you.

BTW...Thing has fully recovered from his nose surgery...doesn't look to bad. It was a malignant melanoma. The doctor said it's about a 50/50% chance of it coming back in some form within the next year (either on the nose , in the lymph glands or in the lungs - He said we'll just have to watch it closely . I'm thinking positive about it.

Tough shit.
You are in line in freezing weather to get a signed copy of a book that will sell for ~$200.
The truth is that you can buy more than one ticket/book. In fact you could buy 100+ (doesn't look like it if 30 people are in line already, especially when they realize they can buy more than one), but there is a chance.
November in Maine, what did you expect? :)

Waiting 14 hours to sell the book for $300 means you're "earning" about $21/hour...I have to say, if that's the only motivation, it's a waste of time. But - if you're fired up about seeing him, then I say dress warm and tell some ghost stories. Haha

Can you buy more than one ticket per person? I thought they were limiting it to one - but I don't know where I thought I heard that.

EDIT: I see those rules changed above to three....good luck!

Signing line starts at 3pm, the actual signing at begins at 5pm.
King will sign 400 books. He probably will be finished in less than 3 hours.
I'll be in Austin in the immediate vicinity of the venue at ~ Noon.
I have the cell #'s for: Merlin1958, Sir_boome, thegunslinger41, and Brownings Childe. I will be updating (and vice versa) people via text starting Saturday morning.
I am a big microbrew fan, so was thinking of having lunch and a few pints at one of the 2 nearby Brewpubs. One is a mile away, the other 2 miles from the venue.

The weather must be trying to make King feel at home.

Good News ... it'll be all the way up to 52 tomorrow for the event
Bad News... It might be raining.
Good News... probably won't freeze over
Bad News... might freeze over Sunday night
Good News... Stephen King is coming to town tomorrow
Bad news... My dog really did eat Bill's ticket
Good news... My ticket is still ok
Bad news.... Bill is still coming and he is a really big guy

I was hoping RF would print us up some DT thongs to go with the shirts....

An Oy thong , or perhaps the Thong of Susannah would be cool... to match our shirts.

Of course... wearing a Tower man pouch could be fun.... Hitting a stripper bar and watching The Tower grow would be a hoot.

Jerome, how fast a turn-around does that printer have?

Guys, unfortunately I will not be able to make it to Austin event (although I have ticket).

My plan to see King (for the first time!) and meet you guys (even more important...) was blown up because of work issues that forced me to cancel my trip and stay in Nashville.

Well....at least I have tickets to Florida event in January so I guess I'll see you and King then.

Have fun and enjoy the event !!!

They did XXXL's for your belly, but won't put the image on a child size thong.

now RF..... just because my thongs are preshrunk.... doesn't mean they aren't made out of stretch materials.

I really need to randomly post my phone numbers to the internet more often - hell I've got more action in the past 24 hours than I have in the past 2 years.

To the Sexy very feminine voice that called and left the very hot message (I'm guessing it might be Bill)... I told you My Thing ate the mouse.... so I can't wear the T-back tomorrow.

The Silk Scoobie Doo's are in the washer and the Duck man-pouch is hung from the ceiling fan (set on high velocity) with a 2.5 lb weight attached to the end.... in an attempt to get it stretched out enough so it will be wearable by tomorrow.

ps.... we'll miss you sharkie.... but have fun in Florida

King started 15 minutes early. Very cool as everyone was ready. Usual deal. 10 seconds per person with unusual people getting 30 to 45.
Had fun.
