Need 4 people to commit to $417 each and they can go with me to the King event in Florida and get all the VIP privilages, including a meet and greet with King.

RF - any chance for signing ?

RF - any chance for signing ?
I doubt King is going to sign anything at the VIP reception. At the Mason event, that was very clear and steadfast. Everyone did have a chance for a photo and a word or three.

RF - You went to the VIP event at the RBR show, right? Do you think it will be like that? I'm extremely interested, and could probably make it work. Just trying to figure out what's more important... A 2 minute conversation and a photo with him, or the chance at a signed book during a potential Revival tour.

I know you asked RF, but my opinion is.

People were very disappointed with $150 Hartford Conn Meet and Greet. He was hidden behind a wall. 1 photo opportunity and very rushed. At least let him hang out in the open!

The excitement of meeting him the first time at George Mason was well worth $100! Not $416.

$1000 at Toronto was ridiculous! Even the organizers talked people out of paying that price. And we still got 8 books signed with out the meet and greet.

Save your money, wait for the revival book tour, have the 2nd person with you stand in line a few spaces back, step around the table and get your picture taken. It has been done 100 times.

Unless you can easily afford $416 then by all means go for it! and take me too!! someone take me please!!! that is just not in my budget. :frown2:

The fun is meeting others.
If I could get 4 members to buy a ticket from me at $417, I'd buy the $2.5K VIP sponsorship. Payment would have to be prompt.

Here's how it would work: Four people PP $417 as a gift to the PP address I provide. I'll then buy a $2.5K sponsorship. If 1,2, or 3 buy a ticket, but we can't get a 4th within 30 days, I'll give a 100% refund to all who paid. I currently have 1 person, just need 3 more.
PM me immediately for info.

I would love to go but the round trip airfare from the west-coast + ticket puts me close to a grand.
But Mr. Flagg is correct.. hang'n out with fellow SK geekers is a ton of fun.

I checked out lodging, and the 2 closest hotels are a Hampton (http://hamptoninn3.hilton.com/en/hotels/florida/hampton-inn-and-suites-bradenton-downtown-historic-district-SRQDTHX/index.html) and a Marriot (http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/srqbd-courtyard-bradenton-sarasota-riverfront/). They are equidistant to the venue (~1.7K feet). Currently the Marriot is ~ $50 per night cheaper counting tax.

EXPLORER actually drove to the area today, and had these observations:

"Looks Good.... Two nice looking hotels are within walking distance of Performing Arts Center: Courtyard by Marriott and Hampton Inn and Suites. The PAC is right in middle of these two hotels with Courtyard .3 mile northeast and Hampton .3 miles west. You can see the Performing Arts Center looking down 3rd Ave from Hampton. . It is about a 5-6 minute walk from either hotel One block west of Hampton Inn is "Old Main St" a street with various restaurants & Pubs. We saw at least 3 Irish pubs. Many of these places had sidewalk dining. Many had a wide range of beers on tap including some local brews. We picked one (OBricks) not full of smoke had a super lunch. They had some great happy hour specials !/2 price wines & $3 Capt Morgan all day.
I think it will be easy to find plenty to do and enjoy. All within walking distance there is a waterfront with other restaurants, a history museum, an aqauirium and the library. Right across the river is Palmetto another town with some waterfront shops and restaurants overlooking Bradenton.."

If anyone has someone going to fill in for a ticket, I will gladly pay for the ticket to get my First Edition The Shining signed. I know, long shot but worth asking. I really wanted to go to this one. The Mason Event was fantastic and over the top fun with all the members from here. For those going for the first time, you are in for a treat.

Just was officially informed they have sold out (before my request) of the $2.5K sponsorships. They only have the $5K sponsorships left and I need to upgrade or cancel. I need one person (perhaps more.TBD) who wants to do the VIP meet and greet, wine and cheese and VIP reserved seating.

Senior management has confirmed via telephone (but not published yet on site) that all VIP members will have the opportunity to purchase a book at the event and have it signed by Stephen King.*

PM me for price (expensive, but what can I say, we all are splitting the cost evenly).

* This is still unofficial and I can not guarantee it to be true. It still is based upon trusted information.

The Manatee County Public Library System announced that Stephen King will "headline" the 28th annual author event, titled, "An Evening with Stephen King."

January 29, 2015
7pm
Manatee Performing Arts Center,
502 Third Ave. W., Bradenton.

The event will support the Manatee County Library Foundation, which has set a goal to raise $100,000 to help finance technological upgrades of the library's online operating system.

The article says that King will speak for about an hour, and sign copies of his novel, Revival.

To help raise more money, the library is sponsoring a "mystery thriller writing contest" which it calls "Page Turner." The prize? A free ticket to "An Evening with Stephen King."

We have not jumped up to VIP level at this point, however are confirmed attendees and look forward to seeing many others who will be joining in the fun..

I would recommend you bring them the agreement and a check, or fax the agreement and ask about payment by credit card. If you mail in your check it might not guarantee you a place.

I posted this yesterday but it got buried. There are no VIP tickets remaining.

I just called. They still have Bronze Sponsor (4 tickets)- $1000, Patron Sponsor (2) $500 and Advocate (1) $200 tickets available. These levels are not VIP. They include the wine & cheese reception.

I would recommend you bring them the agreement and a check, or fax the agreement and ask about payment by credit card. If you mail in your check it might not guarantee you a place.

If I've followed the information correctly, I believe the $200 tickets allow you into the reading and a signing after - but not the reception that includes the M&G with King.

Dan

Is there anyone else on here that would go in on the 2k? If I got I have 2 seats taken for it... me and the wife...

Man you are fast... Still working my wife...

There is no $2K option. There was a $2.5K sponsorship, but they sold out weeks ago. I am unsure if they have any $5K sponsorships, but if so, that gets 8 tickets. Net cost is $625 PP,
They are also very low on and will soon sell out of the $200 basic ticket.

They have a few $200 left and the $5k left. I JUST got off the phone with them... he is not signing books at the VIP she thought... You WILL get a signed book but as of now it will be one that is there for sale (we all know which one). I asked about bringing your own and she covered the phone and I heard her ask a guy and I could hear him say... "we are not sure yet if people will be allowed or not but there is a possibility". So that is not 100%... I am THIS close now to convincing the wife. lol

Dan

That's correct....but there is a wine and cheese reception (without King) for the Bronze, Patron, and Advocate sponsors. Silver and Gold get the reception with King.....Silver is sold out, so if you want to "meet" King, you gotta go Gold...which is $625 per ticket (and you gotta have seven friends with you because it is $5000 for eight tickets).

Br!an's post above says Gold is SOLD OUT, but Webstar1000 was just told something different. As is the norm with these things, information is never consistent, and varies with each person you talk to.

Or you could wait until November 1st and pay $125 per ticket, and the only real difference is no wine and cheese....and maybe not as good a seat in what is a pretty small venue anyhow.

I haven't been to a King signing yet, but from what I've heard from others here who have gone to them, there's usually a lot of uncertainty right up to the event. The person you talked to was just selling tickets. She probably has no idea how the event will run. Plus, with it being months away, a lot of things could possibly change.

If you paid via PP you won't lose your money, and I doubt they would come back and refund you saying the are already sold out. Just my opinion, so your mileage may vary.

We are all supposed to get a signed copy of Revival, or at least be able to purchase one. I doubt they would renege on that. There is supposed to be a signing at the end of the event.

Anything is still possible at this point. I think that it being a charity event Sai King might well be more charitable in his signing. I know I will be bringing a couple of books just in case.

The best scenario would be for him to pre-sign the copies of Revival and then have the signing after as well for everything else we want signed. And then join us at the after party!

Jerome is correct. Signage refers to the printed signage at the venue.

It has nothing to do with the signing.

It is my understanding that all attending can get a signed Revival.

The more people that call/ask/suggest/clarify/warn/mention/fret etc. the more likelihood the that the event organizers will have a phalanx of staff and a hermetically sealed chamber to prevent people from getting near King.

They don't really know yet anyway. They are concentrating on selling the tickets right now. They'll figure out the signing later. It isn't their priority at the moment.

Conversations here and with Manatee Library Foundation members created another urge for a spontaneous drive up to Bradenton.
We drove up yesterday afternoon; had dinner/drinks downtown and took in a show at The Performance Art Center. The PAC is new and well designed such that I do not think anyone with a ticket could have a bad seat. The feeling is of a small theater, much more intimate than where many prior King events occurred. The layout is smart with good views of stage all over with gradual incline to the rear so you are not looking at back of others heads. This venue has great potential.

Very cool to hear. I think the VIP and $200 sponsors will be up front (the ones promised a signed book) and the others to the back but great to know that everyone will be able to have a good view. I hope that the group here plans a little meet and greet before the event somewhere. I think that would be a great thing:)

I just received my confirmation letter. $175 of the $200 is tax deductible as a charitable contribution. $25 is not since it buys a copy of Revival.

I think the VIP will be up front, the patrons & advocates will be behind that and general admission will be SOL.

If one counts up the number of sponsor packages sold and multiply by number of tickets for each level it would appear the tickets sold for Gold through Patron sponsors could easily fill the front rows A- L. Advocate Sponsors could potentially expect to be in rows M-R. For the show we saw Sat night, we got rush tickets and wound up in seats L5 & L6. I have lousy distance vision however had no problem seeing all of the show. The next row back is raised a level higher and might have had an even better view. ALSO: There are two areas on the seating map marked Box A and Box B which although not shown have what looked like 8 seats each which I thought were about the best view. I figure that could be a logical spot for a Gold Sponsor. http://www.manateeplayers.com/seating_chart.html
This is all speculation and just reporting what we saw. We will not know anything for sure until tickets arrive in the fall.

Per EXPLORER

All within walking distance there is a waterfront with other restaurants, a history museum, an aquarium and the library. Right across the river is Palmetto another town with some waterfront shops and restaurants overlooking Bradenton.."

I HATE QR Codes. I work on websites, and have access to lots of statistics. Nobody ever uses a QR Code.d
Would be more efficient to just show the url and some comment about it...

QR Codes are just a waste of space and time that noone uses.

Otherwise I like the idea of promoting the website. For his visit in France I spent a few days wearing a teeshirt with the name of my website :)

During one of the events (1h at a radio station with only 10 or so VIPs), he quickly said, when entered the place that he loved the tee :)

People can easily go to thedarktower.org, but quickly getting them to Calvins Corner is not so easy.

It's inelegant but I suppose a person could type in
http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/forumdisplay.php?9-Calvin-s-Corner

That's why QR codes work. Corporate types ruined it and it's so ubiquitous now (on a can of peas) that people ignore it.
BTAIM, I should put something on the back of the card, but putting a full url for Calvins Corner is ugly, and no person will actually take the time to do it.

Not sure if you've considered this, or if it's a viable option but what I've done in my business where I have to pass along long URL's is register a really short domain name using a service like https://iwantmyname.com.

You go with a international domain suffix. For example, I typed in tdt (The Dark Tower), and one of MANY options is tdt.im. So that's a 3 letter domain name, and it's available along with a number of others.

Then using https://bitly.com/, you can point the DNS of that short domain to bitly and have your very own short URL domain.

Then you'd be able to share that long Calvin's Corner url as something like this: tdt.im/RHq42d.

Or probably an easier way would be to just do a 301 redirect using the existing domain like thedarktower.org/calvins-corner and redirect that to the correct URL.

Anyway, just some thoughts...

Fine by me. I am an A's fan. Which is easier from a business card, the url, or the QR?

If you provide the URL then anyone with internet access can enter the URL and access the site. If you use the QR code then you are limiting access to those who have a smart phone, and have a QR code reader app on their smart phone, and have the inclination & the aptitude to use the reader.

The QR is faster and easier than manually entering an URL for those with the ability. Perhaps you could use the QR codes and have the URL printed along the top or bottom margin.

QR code are not simpler nor faster. Most of the time, people do not remember where is the app to scan them. After that, the person try scanning it several times before it actually works. Then the redirects do not work properly etc.

In the meantime, you could have typed 10 times the urls : WAY FASTER, MORE EFFICIENT, and also more BRANDED : as you can easily recognise a logo + url. While a QR Code doesnt mean ANYTHING without a scanner.

Regarding the Palaver "long url" :
- use the following url on your card / promotion: thedarktower.org/palaver (instead of thedarktower.org)
- or forget the current thedarktower.org homepage (except the donation wall, is it really an important page? just move the donation wall in a subforums?) , and redirect automatically : http://www.thedarktower.org/ towards : http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver
- or add a BIG GIANT message/button on the homepage to recommend user to go to the Palaver url
- or create a redirect such as : thedarktower.org/collector to redirect to the Calvin Tower subforum. Bitly can do that (for instance creating a redirect such as : bitly.com/palaver is not already taken, but then you don't get it branded as "The Dark Tower"..

Here is the stats in my store. When we asked 1000 people in our database... only 33% even knew what they were and of those 330 people on 12% used them at one time or another. If memory serves me correctly, only 1 or 2 people actively used them. They are ugly and ruin nice graphics in my opinion. We want to catch new comers eyes... has to pop for sure:)

I agree that people don't use them, don't know how to use them, don't have the app to use them, can't find the app to use them and they don't mean anything without a scannner. I also agree with Kris that they ruin the rest of the graphics in most cases.

I disagree about the speed and ease of use for those who are able. The QR code requires me to open the app and scan the code. Done! There is no possible way to open a browser and type the URL in the same amount of time. That seems to be its only advantage though.

If we get a chance to bring other books it will probably only be one extra per person. I doubt he would sign more than 2/person if this is going to be a big event.

Agreed. I think the venue occupy "only" 350 people

Definitely my 1/1 gunslinger.

Not sure what else honestly. I'm going to try and find a 1/1/2 of Salem's since that is my favorite book. If not I may bring my IT gift edition, but that thing is heavy.

When do we ever follow the rules. That also doesn't cover (yet) the VIP event.

Are there usually photo opportunities at a "VIP" type event? I'm not going to lie and say that it wouldn't be a disappointment if he will only sign REVIVAL.

Is it typical to have the book 'sold' at events? You'd think, at least with the VIP tickets, that the book would be included with the ticket.

I think it is, but will need to double check.

I mean, do VIP tickets even guarantee you'll get to say, "hi" to Mr. King? I guess I'm just hoping we'll get a unique VIP experience.

Based upon one of the VIP type events I attended, yes photo ops are permitted. The one I attended at George Mason University was such that most anyone who wanted a photo with King got one. It was made easier by them letting everyone know that King would NOT sign anything at the reception. There also were only ~100-125 people and King spent almost an hour in the room.
Every event is different and this one has yet to play out.

I was told they would be selling the book at the event. every event is different. This event is a fundraiser, i dont think they will "eat" the cost of purchasing a book from everyone! I know they wont!!!

At Hartford Conn. our ticket came with a signed copy of Joyland.

At NY DR. Sleep and most Dr. Sleep events, you were given a copy of Dr. Sleep with your ticket purchase a limited # of these were signed.
This seems to be King's people's method of choice -- increase attendance, keeps collectors from getting all the signed copies. This is my least favorite method!

At George Mason - no books, everyone got to bring 1 book of their choice for signature.

At Sarasota. buy Dr. Sleep get a line ticket for him to sign it. they tried to restrict it to Dr. Sleep only. SK did not care what he signed, but his people do!

At Savannah, buy 11/22/83, get a line ticket, he would sign 11/22/63 or book of your choice. 1 book per person.

At Boston Lowell, he signed anything you put in front of him, but it was a mad mad rush!! no signings except for VIP event.

My confirmation letter for an advocate ticket said that $25 was not tax deductible since it was "goods and services." I assumed (ass=u&me) this was for the book. If not the book then they must be valuing the wine & cheese at $25.

I'll have to keep that in mind. :P

The funny and truthful thing is that I was taking pictures of everyone else (the old saying- the pic taker never gets their pic taken) and King got a bit fussy.
As soon as women came in the picture King soothed.
I asked him why he took better pictures with women and he replied "can you blame me".

I've only been to one signing but I did bring a backpack with a few books in hopes SK would sign something else. After seeing the 800+* people there and standing in line for a very long time the backpack became a real pain in the ass.

*This was the Sarasota 11/22/63 event and I don't remember the exact number of people there.

Nice pictures Jerome!

And yes, good advice is to try to get as many pictures as possible, from different photographs. Better not to have him holding a glass as well...

http://club-stephenking.fr/img/NEWS/FRANCE/le-grand-rex/private-cocktail/11.jpg

The funny thing is that someone was using my phone at the same time, shooting a video... but from a different angle, so I have sort of the exact same picture, from the side.

Anyway, the following ones are sort of better :
http://club-stephenking.fr/img/NEWS/FRANCE/le-grand-rex/private-cocktail/12.jpg
http://club-stephenking.fr/img/NEWS/FRANCE/le-grand-rex/private-cocktail/13.jpg

Here is a picture I took for a friend who wrote a book about King's visit in France. And she uses this picture on her back cover :)

http://club-stephenking.fr/img/NEWS/aout/2014/alexandra-varrin-stephenking-clubstephenking.jpg

Anyone can see that those pictures were taken with phones I guess.
So, my advices would be :

- get a nice camera for the best quality
- get a LOTS OF PICTURES and sort them out later
- different cameras at the same time, just in case
- do not let Steve hold a glass !
