Demolition Man
District 9
Starship Troopers
Sunshine

I still REALLY need to see Source Code. Wanted to see it since release and the one I downloaded didn't work. I also had no idea it's director Duncan Jones was David Bowie's son.

Strong category, but this one is easy for me. I love Source Code, but it's a newer film and may have it's time in the future.

Back to the Future
Children of Men
District 9
Sunshine

Heather - have you seen Children of Men? Have a gut feeling that film might be right up your alley.

Need to see Source Code.

Correction, Sunshine votes :D

Also is Starship Troopers really that great of a film? I was shocked by how well it did in the first round. I've never seen it, but always thought based on what I heard that it was just one of those silly, cheesy types of films.

Starship Troopers is a tremendously misunderstood and under-appreciated classic. Well, that's Paul Verhoeven for ya.

I was pretty convinced Heinlein actually meant what he wrote in the book and that it wasn't satire.

I remember watching the movie when it came out but can't remember much about it.

I know it was pretty hilarious with the Rifftrax/mst3k guys making fun of it when I went to see it last year, I think it might still be their highest-selling event

It's a great satire of America's propensity for jingoistic politics. It also works perfectly as a science fiction actioner; the battles against the bugs -which are a technical and visual marvel, their design holds up great after all these years - are great VFX eye candy. It occasionally falls pray to bouts of 90's cheesiness but it is a superbly entertaining film.

I'm very pleased to see District 9 performing as strongly as it has.

One more day left so maybe a few more votes for Time Bandits to eke out a fourth place?

I'm really hoping for another vote or two for Sunshine, so that it can advance. Really tight race for that fourth spot.

Oops. Didn't realize that this was closing so soon. Voted for Sunshine and Source Code. I didn't get the chance to see Back to the Future yet, but don't feel so bad since it's advancing anyway.

Excellent choice Ricky, now we just need one more Sunshine vote to avoid a tiebreaker :)

I'm surprised Children of Men didn't get as many as I thought. I think that it might beat out Sunshine if there's a tie-breaker. :(

If you're happy about more people voting for Time Bandits than Sunshine and Children of Men, you'll forfeit the right to complain about Mad Max beating Metropolis.

I guess you're not a fan of Time Bandits? Terry Gillian is a genius and I'm still upset Brazil didn't make it past the first round. At least 12 Monkeys seems to have lots of momentum.

HaHa - funny you should ask. I love TB for the genius of it. But I think many are just attracted to the action + comedy. Short attention = popularity.

I didn't think that was possible. It's always on TV. I'm guessing you're not an 80's kid. If you were a kid in the 80's, chances are you saw at least parts of the Back to the Future films.

If you're an '80s kid you have Back to the Future on VHS, DVD, and now Blu-ray :)

I wasn't a big fan. An okay movie though.
