When I first saw Altered States, I was about 12 and it affected me the same way The Matrix seems to have affected some people. It was all I could talk about for weeks. Such a mind trip (though the last third wasn't all that great).

The Blob was a fun popcorn flick, but more of a traditional horror.

The Incredible Shrinking Man (Matheson!) is very good, but Altered States gets the nod.
