I urge everyone to watch Ghost in the Shell. One of the best animated films ever.

As is Nausicaä - but that vote seems like a lost cause :(

FYI, your trailer for Abre Los Ojos is correct, but the poster you put up is for some other movie.

Fixed.

The Cell managed to creep me the fuck out. I still remember watching the trailer and hearing Vincent D'Onofrio (DA GOAT) yelling "Where do you come from?!?"

First time I won't vote for any of the films listed.

I’ve never heard of The Final Countdown but the poster caught my eye because of the name of the aircraft carrier. My half-brother served in the Navy for 20 years and was assigned to the U.S.S. Nimitz for a long time.

I enjoyed Super 8 and I think they did a great job of capturing that 80's feel of filmmaking, but I was left feeling a little empty with where the story went towards the end.

Wall-E, The Cell (wow, I am voting for J-Lo) and Super 8.
BTTF III was tripe, Hard to believe it was shot back-to-back with BTTF II.

Really a shame we couldn't get Back to the Future 2 nominated. Tournament feels slightly incomplete without it. And we're also missing The Terminator...

Voted for Ghost in the Shell and Back to the Future: Part 3.

Seriously though, how the fuck is Transformers getting so many votes?

I'm shocked by all the votes for Back to the Future III. It's tied for first place.

Back to the Future 3 is the black sheep of the three, but it's still a decent film if you are a fan of the franchise. If you've seen the other two, there's no reason why you shouldn't see the third. You should see it just for the sake of completeness. Also, you like westerns, so I think you'd find some fun stuff here. Especially all the nods to the Eastwood spaghetti westerns.

The reason why it has so many votes is because the Back to the Future franchise is just so popular.

Oh, come on. It's not that bad. I guess it's just different for me because I saw it when I was a kid. I had kid blinds on I guess. Even when I watch it today, I still don't think it's that bad. Maybe it's just because it was a part of my childhood. I'm sure you or other people saw it when you were kids too and hated it. I guess I was just easier to please.

BTTF3 isn't a bad movie, it just had Godfather III syndrome...how can it possibly live up to the first two films of equally great quality in the eyes of society? It feels very different from the first two films (aside from the old west setting) because the plot doesn't have the personal tie ins for Marty that the first two films have and, to me, Doc is a character that works better as a foil than an actual human being but maybe that's just me.

mae

Definitely shocking seeing all these BTTF3 votes, especially without BTTF2 nominated. I don't think it's right to vote for the third movie just because the first toe were great. Yet The Final Countdown, a vastly better film, has just four votes. Not fair.

I've been fortunate that a few of the smaller films I love in this tournament like Moon has done well...but I am afraid the two I want to advance more than the rest, Fantastic Planet and The Arrival, haven't been seen by enough people to get the necessary votes so I hope they are in weaker groups: I've seen both films in the double digits and, at the very least, I hope some people check out these two gems of the genre.

My sentiments exactly. Seems we should be able to spread some love beyond just seriously putting films up for Best Science Fiction.

Unlikely a new member comes along now and saves Final Countdown. Hopefully people who have already voted give it a try; then some will ask to add them. Otherwise, I'll be reduced to rooting for Tron. Anything is better than Transformers! Come on, folks... don't make me root for Tron!

Living robots from another planet is not "Sci-Fi"? I know it was created from a "Toy" (God, how many of these things I had to buy my son in the day), but they still managed to turn it into a very successful franchise. If not "SYFY" then what?

Most superheroes technically do range somewhere within science fiction. You have to give some credit to the comic writers way back for knowing how to smarten up the toys a little more than Go-Bots with extraterrestrial rationale. Dumbing that story down again with Megan Fox is just so impressive in the opposite direction.

I never read anyone argue that they weren't sci-fi.

And so is all that money I spent on these god forsaken things over the years!! All I wanted was a little vindication on an internet forum. Alas, it is not to be!! My grandson doesn't even wish to play with my sons' old one's!! LOL

That's mystery to me. I totally loved it, and watched it a billion times. It has everything. It's fun to watch, very well made and acted, funny, witty, moving, everything. Every time Doc and Clara fly on that skateboard, bears laugh and cry happy tears. I don't know what's not to love about that film.
