Had to go with Elm Street. As silly as the sequels got, the original is iconic.

Nightmare. Of course.

Pontypool should advance on the strength Grant Mazzy's insane facial expressions alone. Every time I think of that film, that's the thing that comes to mind first lol. A gem of a film.

Freddy Krueger is probably my favorite horror icon. It kills me to vote against NoES but it should be able to advance without my help.

Scream is a quintessential Craven film.

As a SK fan, I'm ashamed to admit I haven't seen The Mist.

The Mist is great. Love the Cthulhu. Love the ending.

I have seen it, but if I hadn't it wouldn't make any difference. I know everyone seems to love it, but I'll never be able to understand why.

Watching that Pontypool trailer again makes me realise how long it's been since I've watched it. What a great film that was, especially for me since I've been to Pontypool before and there is like one road, Pontypool Road, that takes you into Pontypool and no where else, like an offshoot from the rest of the world so it's a fantastic setting. Also, since many Canadian made films don't try to exclaim 'we're in Canada' all the talk of the O.P.P. (Ontario Provincial Police), separtist movements in Quebec etc, merely makes the movie feel all the more authentic to me.

Heather19

I disagree, I love the cast. I've also come to realize that I think we disagree a lot when it comes to horror films :couple:

Also I'm very excited to see that someone else has voted for it, and I'm dying to know who. I have a very soft spot in my heart for that film for some reason.

I really want to watch this, but so far not available on Netflix DVD. Maybe I'll just buy it next time I place a DVD order. Lord knows my shelves are full of blind-buys. Mostly from Asia, as there is no other mechanism for viewing many Asian films (mostly Korean) other than to just import the DVD. Some blind-buys turned out great. Others...not so much.

I don't mean they are bad in scream, but no one in scream in a starring role in any movie is a good thing lol. When the best performer you got is Rose McGowan lol.

Well I'm in love with Skeet Ulrich, so that's a plus for me  And I really like David Arquette. Granted he's not the greatest actor, but he's really good in those quirky roles.

Another bracket with some deserving films. I saw The Mist at the theater on what turned into one of the worst nights of my life and could easily have negative memories associated with the film, but I don't. I love the movie! So it gets my vote.

I've seen it, and really enjoyed it. I wouldn't mind at all if it advanced. But Scream has a very special place in my heart so I couldn't possibly vote against it.

Cause it's a great movie :D It revitalized the horror genre at that time. It was a smart witty horror film that poked fun at the genre. The opening sequence was the best. I remember seeing it in the theater and was shocked, totally wasn't expecting that.

Mattrick
04-29-2014, 05:36 PM
Scream is like Saw and it was devalued with every bad sequel that followed it; Aunt Jackie from Roseanne is not scary, Wes Craven...the monkey was a better choice...market research says people love monkeys. I can think of at least a half dozen horrors from around the same time did more for horror than Scream, unless by revitalizing horror you mean unleashing a bunch of I Know What You Did Last Urban Legend ETC. upon us all after Scream's success.

Heather19
04-29-2014, 05:47 PM
I never said the sequels were good. In fact I wish they had left it as a stand alone film. Same goes for Saw. But we all know when it comes to horror, if a film does good, you know there's going to be another, and another, and another...

Mattrick
04-29-2014, 06:29 PM
Which wouldn't be bad if they could maintain the quality of the original, but they always just get worse and worse lol That's why something like Quarantine 2 was a pleasant surprise.

Heather19
04-30-2014, 04:35 AM
I don't think the sequels should taint your view of the first films though.

Is there a Quarantine 2 and a [Rec 2], I wonder if I've seen both?

Mattrick
04-30-2014, 08:24 AM
They do. Like if Saw had of never made a sequel it would have been one of the all time greats, but instead it diluted it's greatness with six sequels so now I attribute Saw with awful sequels not great movie...this happened to The Hangover movies as well. I'm okay with sequels if they aren't unnecessary or terrible or at least an effort but when sequels are obviously nothing more than a shoddy money magnet it just turns me off.

Quarantine 2 doesn't follow the [Rec] films and it goes in it's own direction. I am hoping for a Quarantine 3 but then again, I know I'm in the minority who actually preferred Quarantine over [Rec], which is probably just because I saw Quarantine first and [Rec] didn't wow me as much because of it I think.

Heather19
04-30-2014, 09:40 AM
Well that sucks. Saw is a great movie, I thought it was pretty different and original. I've only seen the second and third sequels (which were crap, IMO) sorry Ricky :couple: But that doesn't stop me from loving the first.

Just looked up the premise to Quarantine 2, I don't think I've seen it, I'll have to check it out. I'm glad it doesn't follow Rec 2, cause the plot line to that was so ridiculous.

fearless-freak
04-30-2014, 09:51 AM
