Holy hell, this is such a strong group, loaded with excellent films. Will need time...

Jean

bears don't need time

El Orfanato is the best horror film ever, period.

The Fly still creeps me the fuck out. Cronenberg is the undisputed master of body horror.

Yes, I'm obviously leaning towards The Fly (and will be heartbroken if it doesn't go very far in this tournament).

A lot of creepy as hell movies in this grouping. I hadn't seen The Orphanage before and will see if it's on Netflix. There are at least 3 in this group I may vote for so I need to think on this on awhile.

I haven't seen El Orfanato either. Adding it to my queue nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnow.

Considering it still sits there with one vote (mine), we might presume that once again bears have displayed their weird tastes

(fair warning)

I doubt many people have seen Fear(s) of the Dark, but I watched it recently on YouTube (gray area there as far as legality I guess) but it blew me away. Beautiful and creepy as hell. I nominated it but I can't see it getting any votes here.

It doesn't look like Session 9 or The Orphanage are available for streaming...I do have the dvd plan but that seems to reserved strictly for the family...not including me.

the trailer looks very, very good, but I think it's a different kind of art

Another group where I wan't to vote for half the movies! But I have to go with The Fly.

How does Pet Semetary have more votes than Frailty and The Orphanage? What fresh hell is this? I'm with Jean, The Orphanage is the best horror movie I've ever seen. Such brilliant craftsmanship from it's human tragedy to it's constant permeation of dread that simply never lets you get out from under it's grip, except for one solid scare a little over halfway through that is very much needed to bring the tension to a climax so the film can ramp you back up for its fantastic conclusions.

Someone else other than me voted for Ju-on? That's awesome. The original Japanese trailer was one of the creepiest things I've even seen (as was the movie). The Americanized trailer above makes the movie sound like it has a real actual plot, and is not nearly as effective.

Frailty was the best hands down on this list... shocked I am the only one so far that voted for it! If you have not seen it... watch it before you vote!

I did! The original Japanese version of the movie was so well done!

I'm somewhat surprised at the love for King Kong. Makes me regret not nominating Godzilla (the original).

Me too, although honestly I don't really consider either a horror film.

I kinda wish I tossed my vote to either Frailty or The Orphanage, since mine has no chance of moving on :(

Yessssssssssss, The Fly is in the lead! :D

The Orphanage and Frailty not advancing past this first round saddens me :'(

I can't fucking believe it

Well if there's one more vote for The Orphanage, it has a chance at a tiebreaker. No chance for Fear(s) of the Dark or The Innocents.

I'm surprised King Kong is going to beat Frailty, The Orphanage, and The Innocents.

Jean

I am not surprised. I am appalled.

King Kong is a much better film than those, to be honest.

It so happens King Kong came in at #13 in my Top 30 of the 1930s thread: http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?17947-Top-Ten-Films-of-1930-1939

Jean
04-23-2014, 08:56 AM
That was quite understandable: it's a nice, entertaining, decently made movie that brings about a lot of nostalgia. But to advance towards being voted as the best horror movie of all times???

Heather19
04-23-2014, 10:01 AM
I agree, especially since I don't even think it's a horror film.

mae
04-23-2014, 10:47 AM
Reputable sources do refer to it as a horror film.

Wish we could get another vote for Frailty or The Orphanage so we could see for sure if King Kong is really a horror film in a tiebreaker :)

If me and Bears make a second account to put The Orphange over the top is that considered unethical? lol

Heather19
04-24-2014, 02:23 PM
I should have held off on voting, I was debating between those three, and of course the one I went with only got my single vote :(

Mattrick
04-24-2014, 03:53 PM
How come we can only vote once anyways? Seems we'd get a better representation if we could vote two or three times.
