Both House movies are great in there own way. I think the mVP is getting my vote though.

House of 1000 Corpses, one of my all-time favorite horror films.

The Descent hands down.

Jean

again, as in that other bracket. Cold Fish is the best film here, but it is not a horror film. The best horror film is Dark Waters (one of the rarest occasions when bears prefer the American version to the original)

don't know how to vote

I remember being very hyped for Dark Water, considering the success of The Ring remake and the great cast they assembled for Dark Water, and I saw it in theatres and I just remember being totally underwhelmed by it. I liked it but it wasn't what I was expecting and I never watched it again. Recently though I read Ebert's review for it and it really made me want to re-watch it.

I had to vote Descent though. It's just one of the most intense rollercoaster rides of a movie because it slows along at a steady crawl and then WHAM it's insane for almost forty minutes. Great atmosphere as well, they really nestle you into the isolation and claustrophobia and wait just the right amount of time to pull the trigger. IMO it's one of the best examples out there for how to pace a horror movie.

bears were bored by Descent, and incredibly annoyed by its characters

Very sad to see two of my favorites going head to head here, both of which appear to have little chance, The Mothman Prophecies (extremely creepy film) and Cold Fish. Don't know how I'll vote yet, either.

Cold Fish is the best film here, but it is not a horror film.

I believe it's much more of a horror film than From Dusk Till Dawn or Evil Dead 2, and those moved on to the second round here...

So what'll it be, Jean? Cold Fish? Dark Water? I'm having a tough time with this one myself.

I have voted Dark Waters. It's in an entirely different league than Cold Fish, but as far as horror films are concerned, I loved that one. I was really really scared (still am).

Paranormal Activity (and the sequels) bored me to tears. You spend the entire movie waiting for something to happen and then the only action is in the last 5 mins.

I saw Dark Water when it came out on DVD but remember very little of it.

So I guess I have to go with House of 1000 corpses.

Went with Cold Fish after all. The Mothman Prophecies is great, but Cold Fish is better.

The sequels were bad, but I thought the first was really good.

Paranormal Activity was awful. I could write pages on all the things that don't work in that movie. Blair Witch is a thousand times better.

Blair Witch was believable, the story was convincing and the acting was way better.

No love for the Mothman? :(

personally, I don't think it was a good film. I only watched it three or four days ago, and already forgot it completely.

I'm surprised that House of Wax is doing so well. When it comes to classic horror films that's one that you never really hear mentioned or talked about much.

House of 1000 Corpses, one of my all-time favorite horror films.

Stop it, no it's not.

I agree. I wasn't too thrilled with it either, and never really had any interest to go back and watch any of the sequels.

Agreed (though some parts were good).

Really? That's surprising. I think it's got great atmosphere and is extremely creepy throughout.

Jean

no, not throughout, only the part with that man (you know); and the atmosphere somehow felt so artificial it lacked substance

Will Patton is the best part of the Mothman Prophecies. I owned it and lent it to someone years back, never got it back and haven't seen it since. I think it could have been a better movie if it had tried less to be a horror movie when it really wasn't. It should have taken more of a cold investigatory side and kept moment of creepiness for surround Will Patton.

I only saw it when it first came out, but I just remember really not liking it. You might be right Matt.

This is closing today. Maybe we can get another vote for Dark Water, or a couple more for Cold Fish to force a tiebreaker against 1,000 Corpses? Pretty please?

Few, so happy House of 1000 Corpses made it on. What is there not to love about that film? And I so wish the original Dark Waters had been nominated. I love that film, while I think the American remake took away everything that was good about it.

Well for one it has a 19% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That's the lowest out of this whole group, followed by Silent Hill with 29%.

I never could understand everyone's liking The Descent. For me it was one of those incredibly boring and annoying films you forget as soon as end credits start rolling, and the only thing you remember about it is that you shouldn't rewatch it.
