Funny Games.
Very few movies fucked with me psychologically the way Funny Games did. It is unrelentingly cruel. It constantly dangles a carrot in front of you that perhaps everything will be turn out okay, and time and time again it yanks it away from you and mocks your hope.
Michael Haneke is DA GOAT.
Went for Frankenstein.

In Fear and Kill List look interesting. I think I'll add those to my queue.

I am telling you to see IN FEAR! I was blown away at how tense and scary this movie was. Out of all polls thus far it is my number 1 big time. All of us here should take an hour and half and see it.

I went with Rosemary's Baby.
Rosemary's Baby, obviously
in fact, Funny Games is a better horror movie, but RB is the better film
And the trailers:

Have to vote for Funny Games, utterly brilliant (both versions), of course Rosemary's Baby is a classic and will move on regardless, but hoping some love will also be given to Kill List.

I watched Funny Games yesterday and there were parts I hated and parts I liked. I didn't love any of it but thought there were some very well done and poignant scenes. That being said tall and ugly will be getting my vote in this bracket.
Funny Games is an ultimate horror film of this particular type (senseless violence against the helpless); it is to this subgenre what Malevich's Black Square is to suprematist painting: leaves it with nothing more to say on the subject.
I would have voted for it, but one can't expect bears from voting against a Polanski film.

I'm torn between Rosemary's Baby and Frankenstein.

It is also an accusatory rumination by Haneke on Americans' morbid obsession with violence in film and media. Each act of violence is drawn out to pain staking lengths to ensure we as the audience feel the full scope of what's transpiring on screen. He even has one of his characters break the 4th fall specifically for that reason, "are you enjoying this?"
That movie is a masterpiece.

Finally decided to vote for Rosemary's Baby.
Also, I might be the only one that didn't enjoy Funny Games.

What? (Well, it's not a film you enjoy, per se.)

I liked moments of the film but certainly not the entirety. I hated the two or three character breaks and found other portions of the film boring.
Also, I might be the only one that didn't enjoy Funny Games.

Very true. I think I've stated before that I have a hard time with realistic torture type films. And while this wasn't as in your face as a Miike film, it was graphic in another way. I also hated Last House on the Left for similar reasons. It was not enjoyable to watch in any way, nor will I ever watch it again. Was it a well made film? Probably. But my discomfort while watching it really turned me off from it.
Pleasantly surprised with two votes for Freaks, a pretty obscure film that I was surprised was even nominated. But it's competing with Funny Games for the third spot to move on!

I'm surprised Suspiria has no votes. It was far from my favorite film, but its one you always see on best of horror lists.

My vote went to Rosemary's Baby, but Freaks was a close second.
mine too... but if it wasn't in this group, I'd be torn between Funny Games, Suspiria and Freaks
Suspiria is considered a classic but I don't think most people have seen it. At least it's not up there with the likes of Whatever of the Dead etc.
I never felt Whatever of the Dead were horror films, either. There's a lot of curious (sometimes really interesting), entertaining in its loathsomeness; lots of gore and pus and makeup work, but I don't know if they are scary. The first Romero film was terrifying, but not as in horror film terrifylin, but as in human tragedy terrifying; much more a drama than a horror

Suspiria's first 15 minutes or so are among the scariest I've ever seen.
Intense and brutal.

and outstandingly beautiful too!
One more vote for Funny Games please, before the poll closes!
