Yup, this bracket, the mid-eighties, King was really prolific and in top form.

I went with a four. A good novel but I don't know why it's always so highly rated. Same with The Stand.

4 for me also. I really liked the kids' story and the impending horror of the 17-year cycle. I liked the adult story where they had to revisit things. I didn't care much for certain aspects of the character of Pennywise, and I thought the ending blew chunks. I've read it 3 times and I get much enjoyment in revisiting the characters, as (typical of King) they are extremely well-written, fleshed out and real.

and I thought the ending blew chunks. That is true (if we are talking about the denouement, not the literal ending, as in the last pages)

Yeah, I'm talking about what happened in the sewers. The reveal of the evil and the, uh, mechanism of defeat.

I agree. For me it doesn't subtract from the book anyway.

True, and I have not come to bury It, but to praise it. A vote of 4 indicates much enjoyment. King has a way of connecting reader to character that is unsurpassed, in my opinion. The characters in It are some of the best he has written. The issue I have with It (and it only detracts a smidgen), revolves around plotting.

Absolute 5! Actually I wish I could give it a higher score. Best book of all-time.

5 for me.

Even though I’m an entire generation off, I feel like I could have been friends with the kids in the Losers Club. I really fell in love with them and the final pages of the book were bittersweet.

mechanism of defeat.

Ha!

I gave it 4.5. It's one of his best but not the best.
