(French cover for BAD LITTLE KID)

BAD LITTLE KID (in french : "SALE GOSSE"), is a brand new short story written by Stephen King
Publication :
- ebook, France (Albin Michel), on march 14th, 2014.
- ebook, Germany (Heyne).
- currently unpublished in english

The story :
« Remember, it comes back in the shape of a kid...»
A diabolical kid who cause the inevitable death of your relatives, a bad little kid who has led George Hallas, accountant, in the death row. And that may, one day, cross your path...

When the Club Stephen King asked Stephen King's office if we could get the opportunity of this exclusive content for an interview, we we're told that Steve will not do any new interview this year...
What a shame, it was THE perfect opportunity for me.
Oh well... i got to meet him in november :)

I'm betting in 2015 we'll see a new short fiction collection. There should be enough stuff and enough time since Just After Sunset. Next year it will be seven years after the last collection, and that's been an average span between collections for King.

herbertwest

FD,NS is "sort of" a collection. Novellas not short stories though.

Marsha checked with Stephen King, and the original title is indeed "Bad Little Kid" (not "Bad Little Boy" as previously mentionned on the official website), and she changed it on the official website

A short German summary has been posted here (http://www.randomhouse.de/ebook/Boeser-kleiner-Junge/Stephen-King/e466769.rhd). Here's my translation:
George Hallas is in prison. In one week, he is to be executed. He has remained silent for a long time, but now he opens up to his public defender, Leonard Bradley. He tells him how his dreadful deed came to pass. For Bradley, the confession will eventuelly have spooky consequences.

In France, the ebook will be sold for 3.99€ on the french publisher's website.
The short story is 68 pages long.

Very good question actually.
I believe that the book will be available via kobo, kindle & ibooks... but yeah maybe there will be a territorial restriction the same way ebay does (and it's always freaking doing my head-in!!!!).

Maybe amazon.com will offer it?
Wait and see I guess.

Facts (IMHO):

* The story will be published in English (and other languages), sooner or later. As far as I know, it'll be on 2015, but that might change eventually. (This one is a fact. The Spanish publisher already aims to release it in Spanish at the begining of 2015).

* There will be fan made translations and Google-made ones. The first ones will probably suck, but later ones will be more accurate. And I guess that these will start to circulate less than a week after the German and French release.

* Despite the restrictions that might apply, the story will be available for pirate download anywhere less than 48 hours after its release.

The French are verbose and usually use ~8.1% more words than necessary.

The German version has 14,900 words, so my guess for the English original is 14,500 to 14,700 words.

Unfortunately, I found the story rather disappointing. It's a run-of-the-mill horror story, well written, but uninspired.

Bev Vincent

I learned something new by reading Sale Gosse -- apparently in French, people refer to the onset of a woman's period by saying "the English are landing on the shore" (les Anglais débarquaient tous les mois), a reference to the English as "redcoats" and the historical animosity between England and France!

Stephen King's new short story, Bad Little Kid, has been optioned for a feature film by Laurent Bouzereau and his production company, Nedland Media Inc.

The supernatural tale centers on a man whose life changes forever when he realizes that a mysterious boy is causing the deaths of people he loves.

Bad Little Kid was released as an e-story in Germany and France on March 14. King says he wrote it specifically for his fans in those European countries who were so hospitable to him when he visited in November.

Bouzereau, who is also planning on directing Bad Little Kid, has a resume packed with making-of documentaries. He wrote and directed the 2011 TCM film A Night at the Movies: The Horrors of Stephen King, which featured King discussing horror films and their popularity with moviegoers. Bouzereau's other directing credits include Roman Polanski: A Film Memoir and Don't Say No Until I Finish Talking: The Story of Richard D. Zanuck, which he also wrote and produced. Bouzereau is represented by Resolution and Bloom Hergott.

More than 50 of Kings' books and short stories have been adapted into films over the years, including The Shining, Carrie and The Green Mile. An adaptation of the apocalyptic thriller Cell starring Samuel L. Jackson is currently in postproduction, and Blumhouse produced a film called Mercy, an adaptation of King's short story Gramma. King is repped by Paradigm.
