View Full Version : Odd One Out

stroppygoblin

In an effort to divert the brains of people trying to solve my other easy riddle, I thought I'd post a tricky one...

Which of these characters is the odd one out and why?

Randall Flagg
Eddie Dean
Danny Torrance
Bill Denbrough
Dolores Claiborne
Annie Wilkes
Johnny Smith
Beverly Marsh
Christine
Susannah Dean
Duddits
Gage Creed
Roland Deschain
Stuart Redman
Pennywise
George Denbrough
Leyland Gaunt
Carrie White

The answer is not going to be as simple as 'Pennywise' because he's the only clown or Christine because it's the only one that's a car... You need to think harder than that I'm afraid....

bears first saw the two obvious answers, then read your remark at the bottom of the post

Jean

Question (which you don't have to answer!) - is the list exhaustive? I mean, if yet another character was listed among these, would it be an odd one too?

stroppygoblin
11-17-2013, 01:45 PM
You said I don't have to answer, so I won't, at least not yet...

LOL, one more false answer: Susannah Dean is the only one whom you've misspelled

Shannon
11-17-2013, 02:23 PM
Dammit, that's the one I was going to go with ... OK, let's see how my brain works ...

A lot of them have double letters in a row ... but a few of them don't.
It's not because the answer doesn't have an "a" in it or an "e", etc ...
The first letter in the first name isn't always chronologically before the last letter of the second name, and vice versa.
The same goes for first letter in the first name and last letter in the first name, or last name.
Nothing to do with syllables.
Nothing to do with names that are nouns (Flagg, Dean, Marsh)
Nothing to do with Kathy Bates movies
Nothing to do with groupings of characters regarding Dark Tower books ...

That's all I've got for now.

stroppygoblin

Oops ( i knew i'd spell at least one wrong) - now fixed

Randall Flagg
Eddie Dean
Danny Torrance
Bill Denbrough
Dolores Claiborne
Annie Wilkes
Johnny Smith
Beverly Marsh
Christine
Susanna Dean
Duddits<------because it is the only one that is a nickname and not the real one.
Gage Creed
Roland Deschain
Stuart Redman
Pennywise
George Denbrough
Leyland Gaunt
Carrie White

stroppygoblin

Mystima - that whilst being correct, is not the answer I am looking for, sorry.

Shannon
11-17-2013, 02:35 PM
Randall Flagg most likely isn't his real name ... Pennywise most likely isn't his real name ... Leyland Gaunt most likely isnt his real name ... Susannah Dean's real name is Odetta Holmes ... Nopes.

Shannon

I'm going to go with Pennywise, because he's the only clown.

If that's not it, then Christine, because it's the only one that's a only car.

Yes, He escapes the Stovington Facility by killing the man sent to assassinate him.

The fact that I know this does not necessarily mean you are on the right track though

It would not

That is not the answer :)

refer to 1st hint. look for a common positive rather than an individual one

oh and Shannon would hate me for saying it, but I just re-read his ramblings and he is once again "on the path of the beam"
You are gonna groan when you get it

... and I think we could go on like this for quite a long time

Goblin: since an indefinite number of answers can be given that satisfy the conditions, I am afraid you have to give a hint as to why they are not the right answers, other than "that's not what I meant" http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/bear_laugh.gif (http://s91.photobucket.com/user/mishemplushem/media/Facilitation/bear_laugh.gif.html)

Sorry I'd forgotten I'd already posted that.

So if it's not SK related then the names themselves must be important - maybe you should examine the words?

ladysai
11-25-2013, 08:47 AM
The only thing I can find that all the words have in common is that they're names; and they're all related to SK works (which is said to be irrelevant).
They all contain different numbers of syllables; there are no similarities in placement or numbers of letters; there is no overall pattern among the list.

WTF?! :panic:

Duddits is the only name that doesn't contain any abbreviation for a USA state

c'mon people. read the hints :) people are still answering based on characters.

1. You don't have to be a fan (ie its nothing to do with the characters)
2. Some don't have last names (ie the similarities are in the first names)
3. look for something all but one has in common
4. Shannon was on the path of the beam (ie "A lot of them have double letters in a row ... but a few of them don't.")
5. You are all over thinking. In the words of Sherlock Holmes, "You LOOK but you do not SEE"

oh and people, I accidentally clicked Merlins spoiler again - I too know suffering ><
