Very nice!

Signed limiteds are expensive, even more so when you have to add the cost of dinner and flowers for the wife.

Looks great!

When I was a collector, I wanted everything and everything all at once. And it was great, but at the same time, my floodgates were open in all directions, all the time. It burned me out in about three years. So, my advice, should you choose to accept it (just watched Mission: Impossible 4, lol), is to have a goal and stick to it until it's complete. Then move onto the next one. :)

Thanks Shannon, it is brutal and I am already feeling the money crunch... I mean a signed S/L is a min $500 in most cases and I am dying for so many I see for sale. I think my main mission will be to just grab the books I do not have... Six Stories in Fine condition and signed is my next one I am going for... And if the opportunity arises I may sell my Dark Tower set and get one that is matching under #500 as it bothers me so much I will never have that as mine is not completable... kris

Nice collection, you've got some good books in there.

Kris, as Shannon states, focus on one specific collecting goal at a time (slow and steady wins the race and all that stuff).

Having said that, sometimes you'll stumble across a great deal and get the "I Want It, I Want It Now" bug - all I'd suggest in these instances (and they will happen as surely as night follows day) is that you weigh up the costs (not always only monetary) associated with the instant gratification of acquiring a piece you 'want' as opposed to an item you 'need' (ie- one that is on your target list).

Obviously, if the deal is just too good to pass up, and the disappointment of not sticking to your plan is significantly outweighed by the ongoing pleasure of having the impulse buy in the collection - then, yeah, go for it !!!!

I only offer these thoughts on the basis of my being (definitely in the past, and even a little still so nowadays) a little too spontaneous when it came to grabbing stuff that I hadn't planned for, thus delaying the acquisition of items I really wanted to see in the collection

As to upgrading existing books (like you mentioned with your DT set) I, personally, would put this right at the bottom of the "To Do" list

Thanks for the tips BadPenny... I really do have the bug now and have to be careful... finding myself cruising Ebay and Betts, the Collector, etc for hours at a time looking for deals. I am not rich by any means... haha

Thanks man! I have added a few since then... my crown jewel is the matching set (other than DT #1 and #2 which are 1st/1st) but man oh man I do not know why but I HAVE TO have them all match... I may sell this in the spring if I see a good deal on a fine matching set come along.... addicted to getting these books for sure. Just scored Desperation S/L yesterday!

First off, sorry about the picture quality. I have to take a minute and post some pictures. I have a couple people to thank and the first is Rachel Readman. I commissioned her to customize some sculptures for me. You are familiar with the Constant Readers but what she has done is amazing. My Dark Tower set is matching fine/fine #459. I bought #'s 45 and 90. The play on numbers was cool... but the statues are breathtaking. The black 13 (which was hand done and I did not know about this) and the pink wizards glass are just super. My number was stamped in the doors as well. The Crimson Kings eye was a nice surprise as well. The way she "dripped" it down to the symbol for Ka! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! Here are some pics. Thank you Rachel, your professionalism, shipping so fast and presentation was perfect. The detail and quality is amazing. You are a true asset to this forum and for the life of me cannot understand why you have not done your own King book yet. Kudos to you on one amazing job.

Over the past 4 months David at Bett's has been a huge help (plus a couple members here) in helping me get some of my prized books. Here are some in the matching number #459. My Shining #459 is on it's way and I can't wait. David, is patient and very easy to deal with... a true gem to have here as a member. Thanks David for your help and I look forward to working with you in the future!

To put it bluntly... I could not wait to share this. I have 4 boxes of books sitting there.. and you know what? I don't care right now. This is a dream of mine to have a Michael Whalen original. Well this is it. And boy oh boy wow. It is his first working print or practice piece for The Man In Black. WOW.... all I can say is WOW. It is a whopping 28x18 inches!!!!!!!!!! I will post pictures when the framing is done. I blew almost a $1000 Canadian on the frame but this massive piece deserves it... pics to come when it comes back in. This was all I snapped before the frame store carefully took my baby away. The detail and it is signed to book... WOW... WOW... WOW.... Happy Webstar right here folks:heart:

So I have a story... I thought long and hard about my favorite book of King's other than the Dark Tower and it always comes back to what got me into SK... and that was IT. I have the lettered, a couple F 1sts, the sewer grate Dolso, matching S/L and Port and the GE I wanted remarqued.... so as some know it is not an easy task to get that done by all the artists. For those of you that don't know Glen Orbik is sick and is not doing them right now but graciously agreed to hold my book until he felt better from Chemo to do it.... my thoughts and prayers are with him... That book project has been on-going for sometime and looks like it will take more time but hopefully by early next year I will be able to show you. They all did 2 page full color remarques... BUT THIS P&J is not about that... it is about a score that goes far above that.

What you see below is true.. it is done by Robert Giusti. It is his orginal cover for IT done back in the 80's. It is quite large as you can see and signed. He is almost 80 years old. He was born during the depression!!! He is not a easy man to find... an does not do this... in fact he never has... and has made it known to me he never will again. He is such a nice man, and very hard of hearing so at times I spoke to his family member... but he, at his age... still has it. I will take many more pics when it arrives later this week. He, interestingly enough, would HAVE NO part of drawling in my book for fear his paint would bleed through. It took me months to find him and weeks of teaching and showing him remarques before he turned me down... he said he wanted thousands to do it and that was that... then a week or so later... he contacted me and said he would do it... but not in the book and gave me AN AMAZING deal. He also painted it and told me I could trim it down and glue it into the book (kind of cute) and asked what the size was. I gave him the book and he did it as if it was open to cover both pages like the other artists. I would never damage this work of art. I know of no other in the world and he has never done this before. It is the pride and joy of my IT collection.

I thought so too guys.. the frame I did for my Whelan was like $500 Canadian.... I went back in ... same guy was there and members my love for King. It is kind of cool the stories that go along with this painting! From convincing my wife right to framing. Buddy says he started the Dark Tower (#7!) and realized he needed to start from the Gunslinger. He did this cause of my passion for it and he is a big reader having read a lot of Kings work but not the Dark Tower (which makes me wonder how many people out there are like him....). He, in the three weeks or so since I picked up the Whelan, had finished the first two after realizing his mistake on the number #7. He , needless to say, is HOOKED and goes to thank me for getting him into it. I said no problem! He immediately recognizes what I am holding (he loves IT).. and proceeds to start picking out the frame and matting. He asks if I like it (asking me a million questions about my collection and my site I go to.. which is this one. haha). I tell him I do and he says can you wait 20mins or so? The last time it took 2 full weeks to get back. This took 30 minutes and the price tag????/ $32 bucks with tax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ask why and his response... "I owed ya one so I will cover the frame, install and you cover the matting". LOL OK:) DONE! No shit... couldnt believe it! That is why I have it so quick back to share!!!!

Not a big deal but thought I would share. I made this for my DT matching set. It goes on the tube they sent. I have high end pure white paper in large rolls so I wrapped the shitty tube and then affixed this. I am not going to frame these as it is around a grand and I just frame original art. These are prints but VERY cool to have to go with your set. I am also offering this. If any member out there has this set and wants this label (it is a 6x12 mac tac label designed to fit the tube). I will change it for your number and send it to you free of charge Happy weekend friends!

Yes they are signed by him too! I did not open the certificates of authenticity by the head of the library but I can see signatures through them as well. They are inside the ribbon (should have grabbed a pic) on the backs of the books.

I have made good friends with a member here over the last couple years. He is supportive, kind and so valuable a member. You might know his as The Caretaker 217 or Ralph Mulleins. We have had many dealings and what makes our friendship so good is we both go out of our way for the other... and it makes us both happy as HELL when we get our stuff. He was MORE than fair in helping me acquire my first Phil Hale. Thanks Ralph. Love ya man!

I received another piece I was waiting for... AND it was worth the wait. As most of you know Don Maitz was the guest speaker at the wonderful luncheon that RF/Explorer put on. He did his famous cop (which I think is fantastic) and gave it away as the grand price... I did not win and tried to buy it off the winner. No luck:( My wife spoke to Don (as some here know she is an amazing girl and much cuter than I deserve!) while I was with some of the guys chatting and asked him to do me one. He said he would love to just have me email him. LOL Well... pig headed me did not want to cause I could not afford it. My wife told me not to worry about it and try. It became a game of her (she has his email from the card there) leaving his card all over the house. SO... after a week, I did. And... I am soooooooooooooooo glad I did. He remembered my wife and me well and was all about it. I asked for a lil 6x9 and he gave me this! It measures 9x12. 13.5x16.5 inches over all! VERY proud and he is a great guy. He even made me a nice certificate and signed it as well. Got a lot to hang this weekend....

Love the new artwork Kris. I remember when CD offfered an original artwork from Don many years ago. You could choose any scene from Desparation, I chose the cop. Don came up with four different pencil sketch views of the cop which I chose one with the gun. I think one was similar to your final painting. He then pencil sketched a preliminary drawing for my approval before painting the watercolour. I felt very involved in the project and it was nice chatting to Don, if only by email. At the end of it, I was sent three different artworks!

So I wanted a custom case built for my matching set of DT. I had the glass made first and a wood worker do the base. He burnt the text in. I thought he did a great job. There is a groove cut out the glass sits in. It weighs about 45lbs! SOLID for sure. Needless to say I left just enough room for anther DT book in case we get on:):):)

Good question man! lol I really am waiting for a new shelf to go out that would be to the right entering the room and the base will go on top of that with the books. I won't have that done till summer so the base will have no home for a few more months. So this will stay this way and then get changed again. I have been buying books from David for like 4 months and I have no where to put them! GRRRR..
