This thread is long overdue.
These are my two primary collection book cases. I have several others, but they are mainly just reading copies or books that I don't consider part of my actual collection.

Up first is the King case:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7398/10503577083_75b687b5a4_o.jpg

And this one is for other authors.
The top shelf is just temporary storage at this point, so I have some free space to expand there and on the very bottom. I'm sure that space won't last long.

My King collection is primarily focused on the Dark Tower books, so you won't see a lot of the other books in here compared to most of the collections on this site.

I'm sure everyone here has seem the King limiteds before, so I won't post individual shots unless they contain something unique.
Most of the bells or other stuff you see on the shelves belonged to my Grandmothers.

King Shelf 1A:
http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3748/10503581403_8af667069c_o.jpg
Knowing Darkness and the Salem's Lot gift edition with The Collector's traycase and an extra set of the art prints from the book.

King Shelf 1B:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7299/10503582083_571b01bb4c_o.jpg
Due to their size, I had to cheat and put a few non-King books in here.
The Beck book is signed, the others are movie/special effects books that I collected when I was younger.

King Shelf 2:
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2816/10503389964_44155ed7ac_o.jpg
DOTT, The Waste Lands and TWTTK are my remarqued copies, everything from Joyland on are my signed/limited editions.

King Shelf 3:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7296/10503380935_bce0f0707b_o.jpg
LSOE Artist Edition, Gunsligner 2nd, DOTT 1st signed by Phil Hale, DOTT ARC, Gunslinger 3rd, DOTT 2nd signed by Phil Hale, Waste Lands 1st, W&G 1st, WotC 1st Trade, TWTTK Artist Edition, TWTTK 1st Trade, WotC Artist Edition, SoS Artist Edition, TDT Artist Edition, SoS 1st Trade Remarqued and signed by Darrel Anderson, TDT 1st Trade singed and doodled by Whelan, TDT Complete Concordance S/L.

King Shelf 4:
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2822/10503381775_2a9f9b79d1_o.jpg
The Road to the Dark Tower S/L, Talisman & Black House gift edition, both signed by Peter Straub, Desperation Gift Edition, Insomnia Gift Edition, The Dark Man 1st printing and slipcased 1st, All of the Marvel DT hardcover collections, Viking DT reprints, SoS 1st Trade, TDT 1st Trade, UK hardcover 1st/1st editions of both volumes of the Dark Tower Concordance.

King Shelf 5:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7348/10503388374_91035dc4f6_o.jpg
Mostly Dark Tower linked hardcovers or other titles I found interesting enough to add to the shelf.
The three tubes on the right contain a full set of Grant edition dust jackets with the exception of a first edition Gunslinger.

So far I have four remarqued books from the Dark Tower series.

DOTT Grant First Edition(Phil forgot to sign this one):

The Waste Lands -- Grant First Edition:

Song of Susannah -- First Trade Edition:
I know a lot of collectors don't care for the SoS remarques, but I actually like this one a lot.

The Wind Through the Keyhole -- Grant Artist Edition:

Not a Remarque, but Whelan did doodle an eye in my TDT 1st/1st that he signed.

I really can't limit myself to just one author. Thank God I'm not a completest!

Other Authors Shelf 1:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7321/10503569533_a4e8a61161_o.jpg
The Anne Rice Easton Press set (unsigned edition), my first editions of the Vampire Chronicles and a couple of new authors I've picked up recently including a Night Film Arc and a signed 1st Trade, followed by UK and US 1st/1sts of The Bone Season.

Other Authors Shelf 2:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7307/10503368236_fbeedfef58_o.jpg
My George R.R. Martin collection, which I just started earlier this year. New AGOT UK edition, B&N AGOT slipcased edition, ACOK 1st Trade, ASOS 1st Trade, AFFC 1st Trade, ADWD 1st Trade (needs to be upgraded), UK Slipcased editions of AGOT(3rd), ACOK(1st), ASOS(1st), AFFC(1st), ADWD(1st), ADWD S/L (with rights), AFFC 1st Trade. That last copy of AFFC was for one of my dust jacket proofs, but it isn't quite as Fine as the seller indicated.

Other Authors Shelf 3:
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5511/10503368626_d09bd9fe1b_o.jpg
Frank Herbert, Ray Bradbury, Anne Rice and some Star Wars S/Ls. I'll show close-ups of these in another post.

Other Authors Shelf 4:
http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3783/10503374214_e17027e1f3_o.jpg
Joe Hill, Frank Darabont, Kurt Vonnegut, Hugh Howey, Colin Meloy, Max Brooks, Tolkein, and a few others. I'll show close-ups of these in another post.

Other Authors Shelf 5:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7308/10503364775_7920bb719e_o.jpg
A few gift editions or generally not limited editions that I still really like.
3 volume set of the complete annotated Sherlock Holmes, a children's book written by a friend of mine earlier this year (signed of course), Leather bound edition of Frank Miller's Batman stories, Leather bound edition of Joker stories, Poe, Dickens Christmas stories, a couple of Dracula editions, Asimov, Brandbury and the 3 volume Complete Calvin & Hobbes set.

Frank Herbert:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7460/10503375386_65cecd93f3_o.jpg
These are signed/limited editions of God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune, Chapterhouse: Dune and The White Plague. None of these were issued with dust jackets, but the seller I purchased from added a first edition jacket to Heretics.

Ray Bradbury:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7427/10503575043_938ce594e1_o.jpg
These are my signed/limited Bradbury books.
That's the Hill House edition of The Cat's Pajamas, 50th Anniversary edition of F451 with new Ralph Steadman art (love this edition), Easton Press signed/numbered edition of F451, 40th Anniversary edition of F451, Dandelion Wine S/L, and Farewell Summer. The F451 40th, Dandelion Wine and Farewell Summer are all matching single digit numbers.
Not shown is a S/L chapbook from Hill House.

Anne Rice:
I used to have a fairly extensive collection of Anne Rice signed/limiteds, but I stopped collecting books a few years ago and sold all but a handful of them. Some days I regret that now that I'm collecting again.
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5501/10503371826_5708b14970_o.jpg
Signed 20th Anniversary edition of Interview With the Vampire. This one is near impossible to get out of its slipcase, so I store that on the shelf with my first editions. The Queen of the Damned S/L, this is one of my favorites of her limiteds. Memnoch the Devil, lettered edition. Got this one for a steal.
Vittorio the Vampire, publisher issued signed bookplate edition.

Signed Star Wars Novels:
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2848/10503367996_bc422181d9_o.jpg
I used to be a big Star Wars fan, so naturally when I started collecting books, I looked to see what titles were available.
Timothy Zahn can be credited for bringing Star Wars back to popularity in the very early 90s and is a fan favorite, so I was glad to see his original trilogy was given the S/L treatment. Not many seem to know these exist.
Heir to the Empire S/L, Dark Force Rising S/L, The Last Command S/L, The Last Command 1st Trade inscribed, Outbound Flight 1st Trade inscribed, Outbound Flight 1st Trade signed/dated, Episode One S/L, Episode Two S/L, Episode Three S/L.
Episode Two was not issued with a dust jacket.

I was able to catch Zahn on a signing tour in Chicago in 2006 for the release of Outbound Flight and had him inscribe my 1st/1st of The Last Command with the final words of Grand Admiral Thrawn.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7436/10503361675_8082407706_o.jpg

Joe Hill, Frank Darabont, Kurt Vonnegut and Neil Gaiman:
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2869/10503373695_caf157a330_o.jpg
Signed 1st/1st of NOS4A2, Heart-shaped Box S/L deluxe edition PC, Walpuski's Typewriter S/L, Slaughterhouse Five Easton Press Signed Edition, The Ocean at the End of the Lane signed 1st/1st

Hugh Howey:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7453/10503371616_3b70659ec3_o.jpg
Wool signed UK 1st/1st, Wool signed US 1st/1st, Dust signed 1st/1st ugly edition.

Colin Meloy:
http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3827/10503382354_16df3deacf_o.jpg
Barely visible next to Dust is a lettered and a numbered copy of The Grievous Demise of Mr. Whitley Rackham. There are only 200 copies total, included the lettered edition, and it was letterpress printed. Only the lettered edition is signed.
Then we have a Wildwood ARC, Wildwood US 1st/1st, Wildwood S/L, Under Wildwood ARC, Under Wildwood US 1st/1st and a Wildwood Imperium ARC. I just got that last ARC earlier this week, the book won't be published until February.
Wildwood is currently being developed as a stop motion animated film by the same studio that made Coraline and ParaNorman, so I assume that will help increase its popularity.

Zombies, Elves, Lawyers and Pigs:
http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3680/10503369175_22f1e53b31_o.jpg
The Zombie Survival Guide ARC (Cemetery Dance), World War Z 1st/1st (S/L and lettered editions of both are on order), The Children of Hurin 1st/1st, LOTR 50th Anniversary edition 1st/1st, To Kill a Mockingbird 50th Anniversary edition 1st/1st, Animal Farm Folio Society Edition.

Frank Herbert (Again):
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2870/10503376646_aeab703f1b_o.jpg
Dune Leather-bound SFBC 50th Anniversary Edition limited edition, Dune Barnes & Noble Leather Edition.
The SFBC edition is actually pretty rare and can be hard to find, especially at a good price.
The B&N edition is also pretty well made for a mass market edition.

Thanks Bob.

That's actually just the slipcase for the 20th Anniversary edition of Interview With the Vampire. It's the worst fitting slipcase I've ever seen and it is nearly impossible to get the book out of it, so I just leave it empty on the shelf.
That edition sells so cheaply that I may just pick up another copy and hope for a better fit.

I didn't attend, but I did buy one of the gift bags they offered and got quite a few of the signed art pages.

The only thing not signed that is shown here is the small Gunslinger card.

I've received a few more "other author" additions over the last few weeks.

Up first is a signed 1st/1st of S. by J.J. Abrams and Doug Dorst.
They've only done a couple of appearances together to promote the book. This one was signed in New York.

http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5477/11327439696_a35ebe78b5_o.jpg

I also picked up an unsigned 1st/1st of the Dangerous Women anthology from George R.R. Martin and others. This one has a new ASOIAF story in it.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7378/11507741983_0ae37bbb37_o.jpg

And a couple of new Joe Hill purchases for me.
Horns could use a better DJ, but the signature and doodle are great!

Easton Press has improved over the last few years with these numbered and slipcased editions.
I like them a lot more than their standard leather signed editions.

I just wish they would issue more new titles instead of what feels like endless reissues of the same titles.

I think Merlin1958 might appreciate this.

It's the Sideshow Weta limited edition statue of the Witch King from LOTR. #24 of 9500.
He's been keeping watch over my bookshelves for years.

It's about 17 inches tall, and just barely fits on top of the new bookcases that I got over the summer.

To be honest, I don't even know how scarce the Skeleton Crew proof is.

Heretics and Chapterhouse are not all that difficult to find, but prices vary widely. I lucked out and got them in amazing condition for very cheap. God Emperor seems to be more difficult to find, so I was glad I snagged it when I did.
All three appear to be unread and the signed cards with two of them are a nice bonus.

This one just arrived today.

It's the UK proof of Chapterhouse: Dune.
The UK trade edition preceded the US edition by about two months, making it the true world first edition. In theory, that makes this proof the earliest version of the book.
However, there are notable differences in the text of the original UK and US versions. No one seems to know why that is, but it appears to have been corrected in the years since the original publication.

http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3684/12183350285_5b4f12178d_o.jpg

I'll be very happy just having all of the SubPress editions, so I don't know if I'm going to try for the MM books or not.
The seller that I bought ASOS from does have a matching ACOK listed, but that is the only other book they have from the series.

Nothing new on the King front, but it is time to catch up on my other additions over the last few months.

First up is The World of Ice & Fire 1st/1st trade edition. This one is a large, coffee table sized book and is very heavily illustrated throughout.

I pre-ordered World War Z and The Zombie Survival Guide from CD almost two years ago. Now I have both ARCs and both S/L editions, so I'm just waited on the lettered versions.

These did not photograph very well, so I'll have to shoot them again later.

World War Z is a nice oversized edition. Sadly, the publisher wouldn't let CD add any illustrations beyond the cover.

The original Easton Press edition of Dune had different cover art than what they've been using for many years.

Neither version is difficult to find or very expensive and both are red/maroon. However, there have always been rumors of a small amount of them being produced in either blue or black. I've never even seen a photo of one, let alone found a copy for sale. I have talked to another collector who knew someone with a copy, but that was the closest I've come to confirming its existence.

Then I won an ebay auction for this one (described as blue in the listing, but I would say it's black).

To complete my trifecta of rare Dune additions, I finally located the UK uncorrected proof for God Emperor of Dune.
I've talked to other Dune collectors about this and none were sure if the publisher had even created a proof. We assumed they may have, but nobody could find a copy. So mystery solved, it does exist.

Hah! Glad to hear you can enjoy the portion of my collection now.
I reread the original 6 books a couple of years back and that really reignited my interest in collecting the books.

I still have a long way to go, but I'm really happy to have so many of the rare editions already checked off of the list.

Are you planning to read all 6 books?

Go for it!
I had an English teacher my Junior year of high school who was a really big fan.
It came up in class one day and he ended up adding a few days on the book to the syllabus that quarter.
We had to get by with the David Lynch film and my teacher doing a detailed breakdown of where the book differed, but it was enough to get me interested.
I finally had a chance to read the series just after I finished college.

I'm very slowly picking away at Dune, it has become my go to "20 pages before bed" / " 10 pages on break" book. I'm about 360 pages into my BCE copy, and quite enjoying it. I have a few more on the shelf that I intend to read. Sadly I *think* I saw Easton Press leather/pleather bound Dune books at a Value Village (Savers for you Americans) a year or two ago and passed. Really wish I hadn't.

I checked out Dune on tape (yes, tape!) a few years back at the local library and was surprised how good it was! How do the others in the series hold up? Also, Scoogs, how good are the illustrations in that edition? Just curious...

Scoogs
01-21-2015, 10:23 AM
The first three books are probably my favorites and form up into a trilogy of sorts.
A lot of fans like book 4, God Emperor of Dune. It's still good, but probably my least favorite.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed 5 and 6 during my reread. They take place several thousand years after the original trilogy and do some interesting things with the other groups that are seen in the original.

Keep in mind that Frank Herbert died before he actually completed the series, so there's a bit of a cliff hanger at the end of books 6.
It still works as an open ending to the series, but there will be questions left unanswered.

Brian Herbert, his son, and Kevin J. Anderson have written a large number of prequels and wrote two books supposedly based on Frank's outline for book 7.
There's quite a bit of hate among fans for the "McDune" books so it's definitely open for debate if they are worth reading or not.

killjoy, I actually haven't finished looking at all of the illustrations yet.
If I have a chance this weekend, I'll try to take photos of some of them.

Thanks! Take your time, as I said I was just curious.
I've always heard mixed reviews, although I think that's been for the series as a whole. I'll check out the next couple books and then decide from there.
Nice collection, btw!

The SFBC edition is actually pretty rare and can be hard to find, especially at a good price.
The B&N edition is also pretty well made for a mass market edition.

I've been looking for a copy of The Grevious Demise forever! Where did you get that/are you willing to part with it for a large sum of money?

I don't think so. The ordering page says it is for the first reprint in July.
I don't have much experience with Folio, so it could be like Easton Press where there isn't really any way to identify later printings.

I seem to remember hearing rumors of all 6 a while back, but nothing was every confirmed. I'm hoping they do, of course.

Folio did send out a survey a couple of months back asking about Dune Messiah and Children of Dune.
Hopefully those two will happen.

I'm also excited to see Centipede Press giving all 6 books a serious look. Fingers crossed they publish the set.

I was talking to Jerad a few days ago actually. He was wondering what would make it a comprehensive set if he went forth on the 6 dune books.

I just bought a bunch of Foilio books but held off on the Dune because I didn't think they were doing the whole set and I really want a whole set rather than just Dune. Really hoping Jerad decides to do all of them. I told him it would be cool if he did the 6 novels all in one slipcase like what he is doing for the Complete Kane. Just put a very pictorial cover on the case maybe the world map or something; would look really good. Also mentioned he should do it both signed by the artist and not signed for those that love the quality but do not care to pay a $100+ extra for a signature not from the author.

Wow, it's been 4 years since I added anything to this thread!
Though I don't collect much anymore, I did add several books from both King and others in that time. I'll post more of the more recent King additions once I decide what I want to purge.

About the only books I really still hunt for are the various editions of Dune on my want list.
I added three this year. Think of them as appetizers until the CP version is released.

This one was just published last week and is the new "Deluxe Edition" from Penguin.

It's actually pretty nice for a trade edition. All three sides of the text block are edge stained, debossed front and back cover, new endpaper artwork, new map, new cover art and the interior of the dust jacket also has a new illustration.
The copyright page lists new interior art, I just didn't find it yet on a quick scan.

Earlier in the year I also picked up the Books-a-million exclusive edition.
Nothing too fancy, cloth bound, with hot stamped cover art.

And finally, after looking for 5 years, I found a copy of the ABA limited edition from 1984.

Just added a couple of rare Dune proofs to my collection.
I've never seen any others like these even come up for sale.

First up is God Emperor of Dune, signed by Frank Herbert.

The pages are all printed two up with a removable plastic binding strip holding the stack together.

I also acquired the same style proof for Heretics of Dune.

This one isn't signed, but it contains extensive hand written notes and corrections from the copy editor on nearly every page.

Congratulations! It looks like a very nice volume - and complements A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in style, it seems!

The two-colour printing looks like a very nice enhancement. Does the SubPress edition have additional interior illustrations to the trade edition? Completely different ones?

Per Sub Press:

All of the art from the trade hardcover;
An original full-color frontis by Gary Gianni
Seven original full-page interior illustrations by Gary Gianni
One original full-color gatefold illustration by Gary Gianni

I missed a few of them, so I need to go back and look at the rest.
