No -- The Shining. Before the Play was the excised prolog that also ran in Whispers.

Yes, with acid it makes sense. I meant does it make sense with BTP? I see King's face in the bottom left, I'm guessing this was a King inspired piece, not story inspired. It looks like it was a left over from Skeleton Crew that was used here.

I don't think it has anything to do with "Before The Play." It is just a coincidence (IMO) that the illustration is on page 18 and "Before The Play" starts on page 19. I don't think they are otherwise related in any way. On the table of contents page the artwork is credited to Jeff Potter and titled "Reaper Madness."
