Well, I figured it is high time I throw my modest collection up here after all this time. These photos are old and the only pitures I have right now but I will take more and add to it as a lot has changed and I've moved house twice since we were in this place:

My self designed custom built 30 year old oak Dark Tower bookcase:

Sorry I wasn't very clear on that, hell I'm only 32 myself LOL. The Oak used to make it was aged and weathered for 30 years after being cut. I designed the case and had it made by a professional furniture maker/restorer.

It also has the numbers 19 (left) and 99 (right) carved into the sides at the top similar to the eye. Black 13 mounted into the front.

Thanks John, in hindsight I should have had it made much bigger as it is full and I now have the usual collectors dilemma of having no space for more, which simply will not do at all now will it!? Back then I couldn't have afforded to have it made any bigger as it cost a fortune as it was. I might have to design a second one

Thanks guys, I do love how the bookcase turned out and it is more special that I designed it myself. Originally I was going to have the whole wizards rainbow around the top but getting nice looking orbs that were the right size and colour proved to be too difficult so I went with just the Black 13 on it's own.

I do have a fairly modest collection compared to many. Most of my books are firsts or artist editions but I do have a number of nice items in there such as signed by King or remarqued, a few new DJ's for WAG a Gunslinger 1st and 2nd, portfolios and prints and a Michael Whelan 1/99 Road to the Dark Tower canvas print that remains unframed. There's probably items there that I have forgotten I even have.

I'll get some photos of them up here soon...

Hey, Rachel Readman has a SK collection! :) Some nice books and signatures, but I love the artwork the best. Are any of those originals or are they all prints? And man oh man, you have some nice frames. :)

P.S. Oh, also, what is that white Eyes of the Dragon book?

No originals Shannon, I wish!! Those frames took some finding too and they are all framed to museum standard with anti glare and 200% UV protection etc.

The EOTD is just without it's dustjacket the one next to it is the same with a jacket. I think the one without is a second printing if I remeber correctly.

The blue proofs are DTVII, The Wastelands and I think the one you mean is a Scribner Dreamcatcher which is in an dark blue slipcase. Someone gave me the Dreamcatcher I forget now who it was. I think it was either back on .net or not long after this site was started and the slipcase is just a plain blue that they happened to have lying around.

Thank you guys, glad to have finally joined in the collection thread. I've been meaning to for quite some time and just never got around to it.

I do particularly like the Firestarter print because it is a photographic print and the strength of colour to it, it is very sharp and captured details superbly. The frame was chosen specifically because it looks almost charred and burned. The black matte around it is also textured and looks a little like paint burning off wood.

Just found some other pictures on a backup CD from back when I was having the bookcase made.

The original designs:

This was the day I finally got to fill the bookcase after having my collection stored for a long time I think this must have been 2007 and we still had our Bearded Dragons Draco and Falcor back then, the house was tiny and very full. Another reason (apart from cost) that the bookcase couldn't be made bigger was that I didn't have space to have a bigger one:

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r293/darktowernetbooksigningtour/Our%20Collection/Picture001_zpsb361d287.jpg~original

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r293/darktowernetbooksigningtour/Our%20Collection/Picture002_zps68e44533.jpg~original

I certainly don't regret moving from there as now we live here:

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r293/darktowernetbooksigningtour/Our%20Collection/TheRoundhouse_zps59f2d000.jpg~original

The house is a grade 2 protected listed building and it was derelict. It was taken down and rebuilt stone by stone and every stone had to be put back exactly where it came from because of it's protected status. The building has a lot of history. It was a dairy farm and mill. The Cornish Roundhouse was where horses would walk around and around to drive the mill to grind grain and there were only (as far as I can tell) 2 still standing in the whole world when the house was rebuilt around two years ago. There used to be lots of 'bad' men would come here and hold bare knuckle fighting contests upstairs and hide out from the law and there is still one of the original doors from upstairs with names of those men carved into it stored in the outbuildings.. Originally it was built around 1800.

The firewood that came out of the place:

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r293/darktowernetbooksigningtour/Our%20Collection/Firewood_zps16f54983.jpg~original

This is the mill that was used after the roundhouse became so dilapidated it couldn't be used anymore. This was engine driven via a large belt that went through the narrow window to the left front of the house. I believe this is now in an agricultural and Cornish history museum having been restored:

As you can imagine it is very rural and idyllic, lots of wild animals, fields, trees and tractors but very historical and inspiring for an artist and very quiet for a bookworm like myself to enjoy me lovely booksies.

I say make it a double sided bookcase on a turn table base so it could spin around.
One set on each side so your Tower collection could just loop around on itself!

Wow...I love that house! But the horror lover in me has to ask...is it haunted? :ghost_002:

We've been here for 7 months now and as yet there have only been a few odd things happen. Dark shadows, things that seem to move behind you quickly and you catch them out of the corner of your eye and things seem to go missing after you put them down only to turn up later. Haven't seen anything major yet though, there is still hope for it yet.

Just remembered there was one thing, I was in my studio working one day and heard someone very clearly walking across the dining room and kitchen (which is open plan) towards my studio and I thought it was my husband, but it wasn't as he was in his music room.

I see your way of thinking. I might have to keep that in mind for the next design if I can maybe save up about $5000 equivalent, then I'll have to have the books to fill it as well so maybe about $25,000 should do it :scared:

I'm going to have to do something though as I am all out of shelves now and my other bookcases are full too.

That bookcase is more DT stuff than anything else but when I get another case I probably will keep that as just DT and move everything else out. I originally only ever wanted to have a full collection of 1st/1st DT books and didn't set my sights any higher than that, believe it or not.

Haha, The funny thing about that is that our landlady who lives just out back in another great house has a dog called Bilbo! Her house is the original farmhouse where the farmer would have lived with their family. Our house was originally a cow shed/milking parlour/barn and mill and according to some records a 'tater' store.

If the sign said, 'The Roundhouse, St. Elvan Farm - Bag End' it would be ideal.

We are about 1.4 miles either way from a historic harbour village and market town but it feels like we're in the middle of nowhere with just countryside around us. Very handy really. Although Cornwall is just that way wherever you are, you only have to travel a short way out of any populated areas and it feels like you're in the back of beyond with farmland, countryside cliffs, coastline and beaches all around.

Ok I'll throw up some more photos in a bit...

Rachel Readman

"But ---- the original house had so much ATMOSPHERE! How could you bear to rebuild it!"

It was a case of not having any choice, it was so run down that it was completely uninhabitable and unuseable for anything. We didn't rebuild it, as we don't own it (if only). It was derelict from about 1996 until 2010 when the rebuild was completed.

Strange that you think it looks creepy Dan? I would say those big old psycho and King's house type places look creepy or do you mean the derelict photos look creepy?

Regarding your Firestarter art, Whelan's cover for Firestarter is by far the best cover for any King book so far imo. Always been my favourite.

Thank you Alan, I agree, Firestarter is definitely up there with the best of 'em.

We are very privileged and lucky to live in such a lovely place and I really mean that modestly! We couldn't believe our luck when we found it and that we could afford to rent it, our landlady was very good to us with the monthly rent.

Whew all done, that was a journey LOL.

We're still shifting and shuffling things around at the minute and these photos are only showing a tiny part of the inside of the house. 4 huge bedrooms, 3 huge bathrooms, huge dining/kitchen, utility room that is bigger than most living rooms. We are still trying to get used to the size, freedom and open airiness and LIGHT we have LIGHT! Looking at these pictures makes it look a lot smaller than it actually is.

So from that then Bill, I guess you could say we live in a place a little like a suburb of Bag End, maybe a little flatter and not so many Orcs, Elves and filthy Obbitszs?

Thank you, the rebuild is pretty spectacular and I wish I could take credit for it but it is all down to our landlady, her husband and the builders who did an amazing job.

They are ready to go and I'm chasing the flight case maker to try to get things rolling. Sending to Michael Whelan will be first priority as soon as I get the first case(s).

Mick took the photos, I just posted them and I did say that I wasn't sure I should have the sculptures there but he said not to worry they could hardly be made out in the pics anyway. I'm innocent m'lord. :fairy:

You're the first to notice though (or at least to say so).

OK it been such a long time since I said I would show the shelves here and I never got around to it. After some prompting from Zelig, here are the new custom bookcases I got with all my books in situ. These pics don't include my King/DT bookcase with my 'proper' collection in it. That will take me some time to go through and take photos of everything, so I'll do that another time, perhaps next weekend...

Thanks everyone. As you can see I do a lot of reading and I'm quite varied in my tastes. My paperbacks are well read and multiple times but treasured as much as any of my collectible copies. Need more shelves so I can house more.

Ahh my cute dragon. He's a hand puppet. Little monster looks after my studio/library for me.

Ken Follet is great. I started out with Pillars of the Earth and enjoyed it so much I picked up the others. The TV series of PotE was really good too.

The Dickens set originally belonged to my Grandfather and he passed them to my Dad. My Dad gave them to me about a year ago. Dad said he had researched them on the internet and every set he saw seemed to be missing a few of the books that my set has. I seem to recall that he said they were from the 1930's, 1936 if I recall correctly. I have 16 books in the set but all the sets my Dad found on the internet I think he said only had 13 books.

Doing a quick search myself I did just find these:

http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/181537847403?_mwBanner=1

http://m.preloved.co.uk/m/showadvert/111955927/dickens-complete-works.html

http://www.justanswer.com/antiques/6i0lt-set-16-volumes-charles-dickens-books.html

Kind of blows my Dad's research out. Apparently there are 16 in the set and they are circa 1950 if the preloved ad is correct. Then it appears there was a similar set with blue boards.

Some info on the publisher:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hazell,_Watson_and_Viney

Seems they are not particularly scarce or valuable. No matter though, still a nice set to own and the sentimental value in my set means more that any monetary value.

Fantastic! I bought a 20 volume set a few years ago that I love. They were printed in 1936, I believe. They are only worth a few dollars each but I still love the look of the set on my dresser.

I'm a big fan of his historical fiction. I started with the Century trilogy, then read Pillars of the Earth which was incredible. One of the best books I've read. And just today actually, I finished World Without End. I hear he's writing a 3rd book in this series.
