Since Dolso has been around awhile and so many of his cases have worked their way into member collections I thought a centralized thread for your favorites was in order. We all know about the "Case Art Editions", but there a a fairly large amount of other custom cases that folks may wish to review. Here's a few of my favorite cases:

"The Colorado Kid" window case:

"The Lord of the Rings" Case:

http://imageshack.us/a/img227/3739/lotrcase003.jpg

The now infamous pissed on "Firestarter" case:

"The Hobbit" Case:

Hey!! Can I post here, too?

Seems like my favorite case is usually the one that I'm working on at the moment but that Lord of the Rings display definitely stays towards the top of my list.

I like this one - of course it's a very recent one (not even completed yet)...

another recent one I really like........

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/DotT_doc.JPG

This would come under the heading of one of the most dangerous cases -- Knowing Darkness -- I was building one of these when I cut my arm.... and I won't try to do another one!!

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Ken_S.JPG

But I guess one of the best (IMHO) is the IT sewer-grate case......

Glad you like the cases everyone!

These are a few that weren't sold to anyone here. They might be in my collection thread but other than that probably haven't shown up.

I like the contrast between the dark walnut wood and the silver titling...

the interior is lined with silver cloth..
http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/685/medium/R_Linn_Omar_Kayyam_6_sized.JPG

I'm sure there are Harry Potter fans here. I think this was for a British 'Collector's Set' ?

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/685/medium/Pam_Benjamin_Harry_Potter_8_doc.JPG

This is very similar to the "Omar Kayyam" case except it has a label for the title instead of engraving (note the drops of blood coming from the label).

All very nice cases Dick!

The story behind that case: Back in the DT.net days there was a project when DTVII was released, we basically sent a book 57,000 miles around the world to any member who wished to take part. Each member reserved a space in the book to write a personal message to Steve King. The case was made by a guy in Canada, I did the original drawing of the Constant Reader in the book and made the sculpture personalised 'For Stephen King' we also had Bev Vincent, Michael Whelan and Rick Berry sign it and write messages and Michael did an eye doodle. It was all packaged up and a really heartfelt letter printed on parchment explaining to King what it was all about was included. Then it was sent to King via Marsha. It was a way for fans to express their thanks to Steve for finishing the DT series and all his works over the years for us the Constant Reader to enjoy. There were a few dramas along the way, one guy, 15 years old, Kevin I think didn't send the book on for weeks and disappeared so we thought it was stolen and gone for good. We hunted him down and found where he lived and threatened to send the police to his house to retrieve the book (the police had agreed to this if I remeber correct), anyway he eventually did the right thing and sent the book to the next person.

When Steve received the package he sent quite a few photos back of him opening the package and reading the letter etc as well as the book, case and sculpture sitting on his shelves in his Florida home and him chilling out in the sun out in the street by his car. He also sent a copy of the then just released Lisey's Story inscribed and signed. Really very nice of him and an amazing result.

The orignal start of this was a book DTVII was gifted to Mandy 'Rebel Girl' by another member as she couldn't afford to buy a copy of the book to read. This lead to her wanting to pass it on to others who couldn't buy a copy to read and so was born the pass it on idea and from this it escalated into 'The Dark Tower.net Book Signing Tour'. The copy of Lisey's Story remains with me as do the photos and negatives as well as a typed letter from King's office. Mandy 'Rebel Girl' was given another signed copy of DTVII to keep and was the first and probably only King signature she ever owned. The DT.net website closed down not long after this project as everything fell apart and Mandy disappeared from the site and became untraceable. I have tried contacting her since to see how she is doing but have not had a reply.

All in all it turned out to be an amazing achievement and I am sure Steve really appreciated what we had done and the sentiment of it all!

I still have all the photos etc if anyone would like to see them but I don't want to hijack Dick's thread with this.

Cheers guys.

BTW, purely an opinion, but I believe that cases like these will only add to their value as time goes by. Maybe not in the "immediate", but surely in the "long-term". Craftsmanship rarely loses it's value IMHO.

That's because you just an 'artsy-fartsy' kinda gal!! Maybe we need to start working on a sculpture of a snarling dogs-head to put on the cover of a "Cujo" case???

This is one of the newest cases I've made. You might have seen a preview of the art in the "Joyland Collecting" thread. Our own Harrison Ryan did this art and is currently working on another drawing so there will be two to choose from. I did this one as a slipcase but the art can be engraved onto either a slipcase or a traycase ... It might be difficult to see in the pic but the spine label is brass lettering on a black background, the liner is a deep blue.

There was some discussion in a different thread that this case contains a 'spoiler' image so I"m putting the pics under spoiler tags -- if you haven't finished the book yet, you might want to be careful about opening this...

As many of you might know, I work off of a backorder list so the cases are not ready immediately. At the moment, I'm getting ready to ship the 'Carrie' cases and have about 15-20 other cases on backorder. If you'd like to get on the list, just drop me a line.....

Hope you like.....

ANY POTENTIAL SPOILER IMAGES ARE HIDDEN UNLESS YOU CHOOSE TO SEE THEM.....

Both of the "Joyland" slipcases are completed so you can compare the engravings. So far, I haven't built any tray cases but these can be done as either one - a slipcase or a tray case. Slipcases are $115 plus shipping -- Tray cases are $180 plus shipping. Either Harrison's 'Devin' piece or the 'Spoiler' piece can be engraved for the same price. That gives you several different options. I've been asked if we can have the number of your book engraved on the Tray cases and that is possible at a slight additional charge. Something like "This Signed Edition is limited to 750 numbered copies. This is number 200." or simply "#200/750"

Thanks!! I'm glad you like!!

Both of the slipcases (Spoiler and Devin) will have the same metal label. They're very similar to the Carrie, Night Shift, Salem's Lot and Shining labels (different font, of course). I haven't really thought it through yet, but just guessing the Trays would also have a similar label.

Yeah, I know what you mean!! If I could, I would buy a "Dolso" case for virtually every book I own. Alas, space prevents this option. He does wonderful things and its hard to deny a purchase!!! Such craftsmanship and ingenuity!!!

BTW, I am pretty sure I have a new one coming for my Birthday, thanks to my loving daughter named after the car, Kristine!!! (We're "German, hence the "K")!!! LOL

A customer didn't want to post these himself but I asked & he said sure go ahead ---

This was sort of a work in progress - we tried to get a skull medallion for the lid of the Lettered Skeleton Crew. The scull is engraved from a 1/8 inch piece of pine and then stained 'bone white', then engraved again for some shading. Since it's the lettered edition (issued with a soft leather zippered case) there is a 1/4 inch support on the bottom to prevent the leather from folding....

The PreliminaryTray Case

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Next_generation_skull_12_w_doc.JPG

This is the design we ended up going with...

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Complete_2_doc.JPG

All I had is a Numbered edition to snap pics of the interior...

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/SC_Tent_3_doc.JPG

This was a fun little case to work on .....the pamphlet is barely 1/8 inch wide & the case itself is less than 1/2 inch (closer probably to 1/4 inch).

Yea, I did take your suggestion, Bill - to distress it to make it look older. But after spending the time and effort to make it look presentable I had a REALLY hard time knowing when to quit when I started beating it with a chain, throwing screwdrivers at it and dropping it in gravel. Probably stopped too soon - it might look like I just didn't sand it enough now.....

As long as you're good with it, Grant!! I think I need to get you to snap pics of all my cases -- you do a much better job than I do! It's just all that shipping to Australia that tends to put a damper on it!

Yep, Both the title on the front and Rachel's artwork are engraved with a laser (which recesses it) and then colored - then sealed with several coats of Gloss Polyurethane. I have done some of these that have painted titles or art but most of the time a brown or black coloring is used. Post number 41 in this thread is an example of a painted one...

The tag on the spine can be engraved plastic, aluminum or steel.

Rachel has given me permission to use this art for several cases so if anyone is interested, drop me a line.

Just thinking out loud, and not to belabor the "distressing" thing to much, did you knock it around before or after you stained it?? It might have been a little easier to gauge the look after it had been stained than before. At least it would seem so anyway.

Actually the number of copies is 724 vs. 750. Adding the engraved limitation number is $10 and can be done on either slipcases or on traycases. Also might keep in mind that the 'Devin' piece looks great on the tray case but doesn't 'continue' the art the way it does on the slipcase.

Do you have pictures? Back at post #69, there was a picture of the Devin art slipcase and the book, which I thought looked good together. How does it look with the traycase?

Dolso
09-10-2013, 08:12 AM
I haven't made any of the Tray Cases using the Devin art yet so don't have pics. Looking at the scan, the hinges for a tray would be on the left side with the case opening on the right. That's where you lose the continuity of the art. It will still look perfectly fine - just doesn't have Devin walking with Annie.

I do have a few orders (both slip and tray) that incorporate both the Spoiler art and the Devin art. We're putting one on the front and the other on the back for a traycase and one piece on each side for the slipcase.

Thanks Grant! Rachels art certainly makes these pop!! I sure hope you didn't have a Pot Bellied Pig as a pet when you were younger! Even though I put the cases together I didn't notice til seeing them side by side that both of your pieces were the pigs. I hope it works for you ... At least you can tell Connie that you really DID bring home the bacon!

I think this is what you were looking for?

I've been working on the Joyland cases for a while now -- I have about 20 of them at least started and several of them completed. I'd still estimate shipping sometime in late October or early November. I am still taking orders if anyone has been sitting on the fence.

I want to throw a quick pic of this case up also. A lot of you have seen the "IT" sewer grate case - it's been posted before. This is the same case only made out of Dark Walnut instead of the Maple that most of the others were.... The darker wood makes the red of the book and of the medallion 'pop' ....

I'm looking for some feedback or recommendations on what case to do for Doctor Sleep. I've gotten permission from Vinnie Chong to use a piece of his art for the engraving. I also have permission from Erin Wells to use the depiction she did of the Overlook Hotel (the one we used for the cover engraving on the Lettered cases for "The Shining"). I have several different options I've been throwing around.

I'm considering doing a double slipcase that is sized for both the trade edition of Doctor Sleep and for the first edition of the Shining. If I did that I'd put both of the engravings on the lid/side of the case -- sort of a split screen effect. My hesitation on doing that is that I've already done a case for the 1/1 Shining & don't know how much interest there would be in another one (even though it also housed Dr Sleep). I haven't researched it enough to say for sure, but I think that all of the new editions of Shining that are coming out also include their own slipcases - other wise, I'd try to wait & include one of them into a double slipcase instead of a 1/1. Seems like since Doctor Sleep is a sequel to Shining, there should be something we could do to house both books together......

Another option is a Dr. Sleep only case with Vinny's art engraved. I'd think that there are enough signed copies to warrant at least some interest for them.

I'd welcome any comments/recommendations/requests or if you have other ideas.

I'm glad to say that all of the first set of "Joyland" cases are completed. Some of them have already been delivered but most will go out this week. I rarely turn down an order so I will take additional orders for them but instead of doing a large batch of them at one time, any that come in now will be handled as a 'one-off' order. (It will go on the 'honey-do- list and I'll make it as I can.)

A big THANK YOU to everyone!!

Hey Rachel~ Yea, I do have a tendency to run around barefoot sometimes!! :rolleyes3: The Talisman case of Grants was made out of Hickory. It's a much denser, harder and heavier wood than I use most of the time. As far as the Titles - sometimes simpler actually IS better....

Bill! Thank you for bumping this for me! I've neglected this thread and DT itself far too much lately!
Since you did bring it to the forefront, I should probably post a couple more photos of recent projects.

First off, I'm gonna add a pic or two of your double book slipcase....... not that I'm a great photographer and you're not, just another for a little perspective. Since Shining is so much smaller than Doctor Sleep, there is a felt lined spacer on top of the Shining and also behind it. The Shining art is by Erin Wells, the Doctor Sleep art is Vinnie Chongs...

These are also done in single book traycases and single slipcases.......

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Doctor_Sleep_Bill_4_doc.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Doctor_Sleep_Bill_2_doc.JPG

This art is also by Vinnie Chong for Pet Semetary.........
http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Pet_Sematary_4_doc.JPG

This is no case for a book - but a Jewlery Case for my grand-daughter...

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Melea_1_doc.JPG

This is a lot different than it looks - It measures approx. 14" tall x 13" wide x 7" deep. It has a sliding lid with an inserted glass panel and a padded silver velvet liner. (The blue tape is just to show there is glass in the frame).

Made to sit on a coffee table to show off the Family Bible.

I believe there may be a case or two forthcoming for the Haven Fundraiser also....... but no pics yet..

Hi All-

Nope, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth or forgotten anyyone here. Seems like there isn't enough time in the day to do all the requirements of keeping a family happy, accomplishing some work and also keeping up with DT. It's about time I posted a few more pics on some recent cases. Some of these will be repeats but some are brand new - a few of them haven't even been delivered yet!!

First off will be a case for the paperback set of Bachman Books. The customer also had some original art that we engraved on the side - but that will be up to him to post pics of. I didn't have these books so he sent the dimensions of the original set....

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/Bachman_Extra_3_.JPG http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Bachman_Books_1_.JPG

This is a case that I've wanted to do for some time. Our own Harrison Ryan did the art that's engraved on it -- EXCELLENT JOB - he's quite a talented guy! This case is sized for the 1st Edition but, as long as someone will send me dimensions, we can easily use the same art on a case for the Easton Press or UK edition also. This one is made out of Maple - I like the pattern of the grain.

We've also made a couple cases for EveryThing's Eventual. The first is a repeat case. The design was used in a Haven Fundraiser a few years ago - made out of White oak using the drop of swirling blood from the cover of the book -- The second is using an engraving of a piece of art from Glen Chadbourne on a Dark Walnut slipcase.

Very nice Dick!

Just a thought but have you ever considered doing a photo story of creating one of your cases? Soup to nuts kinda thing. I'd be interested in the thought processes that go into material selection, what aspects of the book or title impact in the design process, final colours, application and choice of artwork ,etc.

HA! I doubt seriously that anyone here would like to see pics of me with sawdust dripping from my beard or pics of what would end being a nice case but with glue oozing out from the joints - it might spoil the final product!!

As far as the thought process, a lot of it comes from the person ordering the case. I try to figure out how to accomplish what they want and then maybe add a few of my own ideas along with it ... Sometimes I hit a home run -- sometimes NOT so much (as in "Yech - you want me to PAY for that???"). The wood itself deserves 90% of the credit for a pretty case. (I just love the wood grain on the Dead Zone case above.) Sometimes it's sort of obvious from a detail in a story (the Kennedy half dollars used in cases for 11/22/63) - many times its a detail of the book itself (the rose in DT VII, the blood drop in EveryThing's Eventual, or the marbling and lid design used for "Stories" (by Gaiman) ). The best seem to come by playing off of real artists who draw an image I can engrave onto the wood.

Thanks Bill, I know you & I have talked about a Dead Zone case for a couple years...

Onward to a few more pics....

This case for Waste Lands also uses Maple and a piece by Glen Chadbourne engraved.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Waste_Lands_2_doc.JPG

This Green Mile case is designed for the original paper back set. Similar to the Bachman book cases, these have the owners art engraved on the other side. This wood is Mahogany.

As a compliment to the Waste Lands case, this WAG is made from the same wood and uses another piece by Glen. It makes a sort of 'matching set' for the two books.

This one uses art that was licensed from Vinnie Chong for Pet Sematary. The line going down the middle is a natural effect of the wood (Hickory)

I've finished a few of these for the set of Fantasy and Science Fiction which contained the original Gunslinger. No art but it 'pops' pretty well with the black lettering on the clear maple.

The owner of this STAND case used several different items on one case. The engraved art (this pic is from a different case) is a piece done by a great gal that many of you are familiar with - Rachel Readman - showing Mother Abigail on the porch of Hemingford Home. He also requested a window showing the art that is on the cover of the first edition. Then, instead of the black label, we engraved the title and some specific info about his book on the spine. Turned out pretty nice, I think.

I've finished a few of these for the set of Fantasy and Science Fiction which contained the original Gunslinger. No art but it 'pops' pretty well with the black lettering on the clear maple.

Curious how much one of these cost? I had a slipcase made for mine but they fit too tightly. This is beautiful and I'm sure would fit well since you being a collector already know the measurements!

Dick's standard slipcases generally run around $100-125. They are well worth the money!!

Yep, Bill has the basics down pretty close but both F&SF and the DT VII are priced slightly differently. Although, I'd have to double check, I believe the F&SF case is $130 plus shipping and the DT VII is $140 plus shipping. A base price for a slipcase with no frills is at $80 and a base for a tray starts at $140. The costs from there depend on what add-ons you want on your case and the complexity of them ... stuff like which wood you want to use, number and type of engravings, windows, whether I already have the art used, how much time is necessary to prep your art for engraving, etc...

I actually have a few cases that are extras and that can go out pretty quick. I've made a couple extra of some of them as I'm doing orders. I'll check which ones are available and post some pics of them soon.

The main thing is contact him. Just about "anything" can be done (within reason) and that is truly part of the fun!! My LOTR case was a GREAT adventure and came out to be spectacular!!!

I think you just liked the 'Ent' on the back of it, Bill -- (or was that on the 'Hobbit"?)

This case has art engraved that was done by Don Maitz. It was commissioned specifically for this case by the owner. Don also did an original piece to insert for the interior - along the lines of what was done for the Carrie/Night Shift/etc. series. Made out of African Mahogany.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/GO_exterior_7_doc.JPG

I think the Limited (or Lettered?) Swan Song was issued with a wooden slipcase. Although there are a few additions from the original, this case is meant to replace a damaged 'as issued' case. Made out of White Oak.

It's great that some people with unusual/ traditional crafts do manage to create and develop a business, even when people would tend to think that the business is only decreasing.
It reminds me of a video I have seen a month or so ago, about a forger that is famous because he creates most of the "weapons" for Hollywood movies etc.

Great job Dolso. Please continue amazing us !

Hi All-

This one is made out of Maple - I like the pattern of the grain.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Dead_Zone_Art_1_doc.JPG http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Dead_Zone_art_doc.JPG

You've seen a similar one to this before - the difference is the rose on the spine instead of a metal label.....

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/DT_VII_Alex_3_.JPG

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/DT_VII_Alex_1_doc.JPG

Hope you like -- I'll get more posted soon....

I have one of the Bachman Books cases available for immediate shipping. The titles are engraved on the spine, it has green liner and has NO art. Remember, this is for the original paperback books. $115 plus shipping

I also have one of the DT VII cases pretty much ready to go. This one doesn't have anything on the spine so you'd be able to choose whether you wanted the engraved rose or the metal label. I should take just a few days to do whichever you preferred. $140 plus shipping.

These are brand new cases - not returns or rejects. I made extras while I was working on the backorder list.

I have a few others available that I'll get some pics of soon. Feel free to drop me a line if you want more info or more pics....

This may have been posted before - but if so, we'll do it again. This case was ordered by someone who prefers to remain anonymous. It is for the 25th Anniversary CD Limited edition of IT. If I remember correctly, it is made out of Cherry. It has an extra layer of cushioning under the red velvet liner.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/semifinal_it_16_doc.JPG

Erin Wells was commissioned to create both the interior artwork and the engraved artwork. Note the Number 28 inside the balloon on the spine and on the engraved lid. (28 is the Limitation number of his book).

The CD "IT" looks great. This may have been covered elsewhere but has there ever been any interest in you creating a case (I'm guessing it would need multipe hinges) to allow for some blocking to be installed which provides support for these big books? If I recall correctly Jerome has a lucite stand which has text blocking. Just curious.

I'm not sure I know what you mean by 'blocking'... I have made cases that have a front support to hold the book securely in the case...

Even though this is a double book tray, it has two plexiglas bars across the front of the lid-side book. Those could easily be moved to the typical 'bed' side of a case. Is that similar to what you're thinking?

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/685/medium/multi_2_lg_web1.JPG

Or if you're thinking of a support in the back of the case so it will stand up for display, this LOTR case of Bills has those......

Display easel with page block. Note; the block is separate from the easel and can be moved as needed. The block can be made of any material that won't harm the book. It provides "great support"...like an under-wire bra....:emot-hydrogen::

So the block is used as support for the space (pages) between the two covers? If so (which now that i think about it is probably sort of obvious to everyone but me!), I have done that on several cases. The ones that come to mind are the Knowing Darkness display (the book is so heavy that even the lips on the existing case would flatten out eventually) and on a Lettered Skeleton Crew case (the SC has a soft leather binding that required support so it wasn't crushed and flattened). The SC support was built into the case and wasn't movable - the KD support was an actual separate piece like Jerome's pic.

Yes. The height difference between the endpieces of the book and the page block (The Stand S/L) is~.25 inch (1/4 inch). Other large books can/will be different.

The blocks that I've used are simply a correctly sized piece of wood with felt liners on them to protect the pages.

This case has been sitting on my desk for far too long. It was originally $190 but will let this go for $155 plus shipping. It's made of Maple and sized to fit the first editions of Talisman and Black House.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/Talisman_Blackhouse_Maple_9_sm_web.JPG

This is a case I started but the customer changed his mind on. It is sized for the 1st edition Carrie with a round window placed to show the cover art. Constructed of Cherry - It hasn't been engraved yet so you could choose what you want engraved (if anything) and what label (if any) you want on the spine. The cost is $165 'as is'. Cost will vary if you want additional engravings/labels etc.

Both of these cases are available for immediate shipping (unless you want addition engravings on the Carrie).

Don't have a firm count but I've made somewhere around 20 of the IT grate cases.

The normal one is made out of maple and includes the carved and painted sewer grate, padded red velvet bed liner with black velvet pull, red felt lid liner, hand-painted wood "IT" medallion on the spine and of course, hinges and clasp. It is $225 plus shipping. The price will depend on whether you have any special requests or deletions from the 'typical' sewer grate case.

I'm glad that some of you have been able to purchase some of the cases that David had at Betts. He had some great cases at some VERY good prices. It was nice to hear that they got good new homes...

I heard from a very nice lady some time ago about her purchase of an entire collection from an estate sale. That collection included a few of the Limited cases (Night Shift, Salem's Lot, Shining) and, I believe, a couple of the Knowing Darkness display cases. I haven't heard from her in a while so she may have either sold or kept the collection. If anyone is interested in contacting her and making a few inquiries either about the books or the cases, drop me a line & I'll try to put you in touch.

This Dead Zone case uses the same Harrison Ryan (from DT) artwork as the case pictured a couple pages ago. The gloss black case and Gold art/titling seem to really make it pop!

I spent an hour and a half earlier today trying to get a post ready, tried to submit it, & it just disappeared into the ether

This is another case for the Centipede Press Salem's Lot - These seem to be quite popular - I've made black, red, white and gray cases for both the Gift Edition and the Limited Edition.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/685/medium/Dan_Lot_10_doc.JPG

This one was meant to be a replacement case for the S/L Stand's Coffin Case. It wasn't meant to be an exact duplicate but with the close black hinges and no latch, it kept the clean lines of the original. With the gloss black color and gold/red lettering and design makes it fairly similar to the book cover.

Hey Bill the Bender!! (Didn't someone write a book about you? maybe a "Reality Bender", or a "Light Bender"... or was it a "Time Bender"?) Long time - no see! Thanks, I've had a lot of practice over the years. Even with one good hand, I seem to do a decent job...

This is an experimental case that wasn't made for any particular book. Sort of 'Plain Jane' as you see the first pic.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/685/medium/Sliding_Lid_4_doc.JPG

The case has a split lid (the upper portion is about 1/8" thicker than the bottom) with each half rotating a full 360 degrees.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/685/medium/Sliding_Lid_7_doc.JPG

It has a padded faux leather liner. Since it wasn't made for any particular book I've found that it fits the recent edition of Christine (without it's slipcase) or the 2 book 50th Anniversary edition of Bradburys' "Dandelion Wine' (also without it's slipcase).

More like "Off, on a Bender"!! LOL I'm not easily perturbed, but when I am I go "Off on a Bender". A character flaw I have been trying to rectify with limited success.

That is one really cool case, Dick. Reminds me of the film "The Illusionist", which featured a locket of similar construction. Wonder if two "sawed off" differing illustrations on the cover might not be cool for it? Your craftsmanship continues to amaze and confound me. Not that it is hard to confound me, but you know what I mean. LOL

BTW, PM me. I want to buy a TDZ case for the 2015 Haven Fund. No doubt. Quote the price. I am sashaying over to my BOA "Bill Pay" site to start the payment, now!!!

Some of these were ordered by members here at DT so you may have seen prior pics in various collection threads or other threads.

This one is slightly different that most of the other "11/22/63" cases. The engraving shows the sight picture of a rifle scope centered on the embedded 1964 Kennedy half dollar. It's oriented to open more like a cigar box (I've made several that way) with extended tops/bottoms

Great looking Dead Zone case. Who did the artwork?

Dolso
12-24-2014, 09:23 AM
Harrison Ryan did the art. He's a member here (at least he is off & on). He also did both of the pieces for the Joyland cases and the one for George at Colorado Sprgs' Wastelands case.

I still think CD should give Harrison a try to produce art for one of their books ..........

I don't collect Joe Hill but enjoyed doing this case ...........

Someone asked for pics of what I just picked up, and here they are!

My father bought my Lisey's Story for the signed book he (I) bought:

I picked up Joyland too:

And my favorite: The Shining w/ Erin Wells art:

I'm beginning to get addicted...

Incidentally, I really like the IT case with the grate. There may be one in my future in the new year. What's the price on that one...?

Great -- I'm glad those cases found a good home!!

Wonderful set, Ralph! I think you might have another faux 'door' case around somewhere? That other one was most definitely a 'one-off' !! Actually one of the first that was ordered through DT!
Thanks, Zelig! Drop me a line anytime and we'll get you on the list!
Yea, Bill -- You've moved on to the Haven Fund recently - and doing a bang-up job of it too!
dnemec - Congrats on your cases! The Lisey's Story 'Booya Moon' engraving came from a piece by Chadbourn that the original owner also owned.

We cropped the original in order to use the Booya Moon portion of the piece...

There are a couple different iterations of the "IT" grate cases .... the original was made out of Maple with a hand painted gray grate, painted wood medallion on the spine, heavily padded velvet bed liner. (the same liner that was used on the case for the S/L Stand on the previous page...)

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/706/medium/IT_comp_f_l_5_doc.JPG

The second pic is the same basic design but made out of Walnut with a silver painted grate.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/685/medium/1_IT_xt_w_book_doc.JPG

I've also done a few without the grate, using just engravings or a hand painted medallion on the lid.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/semifinal_it_1_doc.JPG

They vary in price - depending on some of the specifics - but range from about $190 to $250

I like them all!!! I'll have to think about it, but you'll definitely be hearing from me once my account recovers from the holidays. Any would be a perfect home for my signed IT. Oh, the decisions!

I think I like the second one the best, but with the slightly less pronounced top edge to the cover that the first one provides. JMHO

High time this thread got bumped!

Here are some pics of Dolso's work on a new Case for The Stand for me. He is currently working on Carrie and I hope to have matching Dolso cases for all of the Doubleday 1st editions.

Why, Thanks for the compliments! I like the 'Zombie' font that you chose for the title engraving for your Stand - I might end up stealing your idea and using that on a future engraving! I'm in the process of working through the back-order list - your Carrie is one on the top! BTW- If I remember right, the wood on that case is Mahogany -- seems to have a nice 'swirled' grain pattern to it.

I've also pretty much agreed to try my 'hand' on another of the 'Knowing Darkness' display cases. I was doing that case when I had such a bad accident 4-5 years ago so I've turned down several orders for them. We'll see how this one goes but, since I'm such a weenie about it, I've made sure to give myself an out in case I need it. I still have some of the original plans I used back then (complete with blood drops and all!!)

I don't have any recent pics but this is of one of the originals....

I don't remember for sure, but I think your case is for the smaller of the two editions? I forget what the specific difference is between the two books...other than size.

A few weeks ago I was about to send one of these to Bill (Merlin) but then found out he was in the hospital in a coma. Since his family aren't necessarily 'King' fans and don't keep up with the books, I figured that they might get the wrong idea about me and my expectations for him. Can you imagine if your husband/father is in the hospital, comatose, and you receive a box engraved with "REVIVAL"!!??

Anyway, now that he's his same old self, it's on it's way.......

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/Revival_8_web.JPG

This doesn't have any hinges. The 2 piece lid swivels sideways to insert and remove the book.
http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/Revival_2_1_web.JPG

It sort of looks like a puzzle but I think it might do Bill good to figure out how it works -- sort of PT for the mind!!
http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/Revival_2_web.JPG

I was thinking about engraving the date as '2115' -- but then caught myself.....

Mine was for the smaller, more normal sized, edition. The book is still one big mother.
