Here it is--my collection thread. I have a feeling I'm going to get a lot more pleasure out of this than all of you!

I love Stephen King, and I have many more of his books than other authors. I will, however, start with a non-King book as it is my favorite.

Enjoy!

One of my earlier acquisitions. I love The Twilight Zone and consequently, Richard Matheson. This is my favorite book, though, because it is the only one I have provenance for.

This is a PC copy that belonged to the editor, Stanley Wiater. I just think that's cool!

Already liking your collection. I also collect Matheson, but don't have very many yet. I do not have this book either. Looks very nice.

It is beautiful! There were 52 signed/lettered--plus the PC copies, of course. It's in a traycase with some lovely artwork by Jill Bauman, I believe. I have more of his, so keep watching!

Last February, Stephen King came to my part of the country for a change and I was able to score two tickets. We saw him speak at the Savannah Book Festival and I got two books signed. (Having a boyfriend is good sometimes!)

My first edition Christine:

This is too much fun! One more tonight: I actually just bought this from swintek via the Collectible Classifieds forum last week and it arrived on Wednesday. My boyfriend was on the computer trying to order this stupid book when Simon & Shuster released it and their website kept crashing. Unfortunately, when they did the raffle, I didn't get picked. (And I had my name, my boyfriend's name, my neighbor's name, and his mother's name all in!) I got my signed/limited edition now though!

To be honest, I have been on a bit of a spending spree in the last month. So this was actually a pretty perfect time to start my thread!

And let me show you my Stephen King shelf. I got the Black House from the Shannon sale (and frankly that sucker is big!). The audiobooks on the left I've collected over time to keep me entertained during all the hours I spend in my car. And on the right are some of my "reading" copies.

Hey, I just got the Insomnia gift, too! I'm reading mine--about a hundred pages in so far. It's a sturdy production, so I'm not (too) worried about messing it up. Very nice!

I found the first on www.paperbackswap.com, where I always seem to have credits to use. As you can see, it features a complete reprinting of "The Langoliers."

And people, I threw in some little extras here and there because Ms. Desiree purchased so many items. Please don't think she paid a dollar (or anything) for things like the "Win A Date With Anthony Michael Hall" ad or the Six Stories yellow advertisement.

Speaking of which, I will be having a TWO DOLLAR MENU soon. Will I see you there dnemec? ;)

I love library book sales. Seriously, I will take a couple hours off work to go. You never know what you'll find and the price is always right. Last week and the week before I went to 2 different library book sales.

At the first I picked up 2 former library books. The Best American Mystery Stories of the Century includes Quitters, Inc. as the 1978 pick.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4401/35857070444_a5a71096b0_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/WCyRNu)

I also picked up The Golden Years of Science Fiction, Sixth Series. No King in here, but it features a great array of authors including: Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Richard Matheson, and 2 Ray Bradbury stories, the latter two authors I do collect.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4368/35857071324_e522114158_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/WCyS4E)

Best part: that library sale was priced at $5 per bag of books. So those two books cost me about $.25 each. :)

At the second one, I found this great unread copy of The Stephen King Universe. And as it's a paperback, cost was $1.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4369/35857068664_4f96b0089c_c.jpg

So the moral of the day is: library books sales are your friend! Not just for collecting, but for the other dozens of other books I brought home to read!

I couldn't agree more. We usually have 3-4 big book sales in my area every year. Most of the time, I go on the first day to try to get the best books available. Then, if I have time, I go on the last day when they do the Bag Sale for $5. I am always able to find something to add to my shelves.

Each of the local counties has a library organization called Friends of the Library that puts on the book sales. If you join the FOL, you get to go to the "preview" sale a day earlier than everyone else. In essence, I paid $20 (the family rate for the year--I need my boyfriend to carry my books!), so that I can go in early and spend even more money because I get first pick! Oh, it is a vicious cycle!

This acquisition was a gift for my birthday last year. While we were in Atlanta to see The Ghost Brothers of Darkland County, we visited this fantastic book store that I just love. At the time, I left it on the shelves opting for several cheaper books instead of the one expensive item. (Among them, a 1st edition of Something Wicked This Way Comes and a 1st of Deliverance.) However, I specifically told my boyfriend: "This is what I want for my birthday. Buy this." (Sometimes you just have to make it easy for men!)

And this is what I got--a signed 1st/1st of Rosemary's Baby.

Every time I go to The Strand in NYC, they never have anything of Levin's in the rare book room, presumably because he was a New Yorker and immensely popular there. I couldn't believe my luck in finding this book, and finding it signed! I guess it's a good thing people don't read down here in the south!

I was done for the weekend, but I posted this on the Other Authors board, and had to repost here. Gauntlet Press sold these prints earlier this year from a painting by Ray Bradbury for It Came From Outer Space. There are certain times when I see something and I can't help myself--and this was one of those times!

The picture is an 8 x 11.5, so it's the size of a sheet of paper. (Pain in the ass to find a frame that size since they are usually 8 x 10!) So the signature on that picture is a pretty good size.

And you better get off your butt and read some more Bradbury! I won't say that Fahrenheit 451 changed my life, but it totally messed me up as a 12-year-old bookaholic and pushed me to find more of his work. Been reading him ever since!

But in August, we've got the college kid next door taking the day off to stay with the kids (and watch satellite tv, play x-box, etc), so it's Charlotte, here we come! Nah mate, I'm a hoarder (oops, sorry, I meant collector) not a seller - the custom Christine models (junkyard, rusted, burned) were all made by a guy that's based in Greece (of all places) and all have functioning headlights/interior lights - the burnt one has even been coated with real wood ash (bastard to pick up or move because of the residue)

Great Haven ephemera items there Dez - nice

ur2nd - Haven's based (very, very loosely) on The Colorado Kid - although the only real elements carried over to the series are the newspaper guys, an occassional reference to The Colorado Kid and a whole bunch of oblique references to a few of SK's characters in the opening credits. Personally, once I divorced myself from the King association, I found I really enjoy the series (Season 4 premieres in September)

Hehehehe ... Yeah, I suppose it would have bent the impulse control mechanism, and the moratorium (man, don't I wish the former worked for me and I could impose the latter on myself ) a tad out of shape if you were to have lashed out on the S/L edition ... I'm gonna post my set (the nine issues published by Dark Harvest and the three "resurrection" issues by Subterranean Press) at some point, although, truth to tell, the only real difference between the two is the limitation/signature page. Don't Turn Out The Light edited by Stephen Jones. This book is #24 of 200 and signed by all the contributors but Hugh B. Cave, including Ray Bradbury, Charles L. Grant, Richard Matheson and Richard Christian Matheson. And I grabbed it for $25 (slipcase was included too, I just didn't like the picture).

We drove to the nearest IKEA this past weekend (only 3 hours) and bought more bookshelves and a really cool display case, so I'm a bit behind on my postings. However on the way through, we stopped at this fantastic shop in Columbia, SC, that sells books, comic books, and toys/collectibles. According to my boyfriend, I officially crossed over into nerd territory when I bought a couple of the figurines. But I also bought several interesting books, and "The Vault" (which is the really collectible book section) wasn't even open! No Stephen Kings to fill in my collection, but a pretty good haul nonetheless.

Let's start with a 1st Edition of Masques.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4344/35882409783_986a722e72_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/WENJiD)

Lots of great authors in there! Too bad it isn't signed...

Anyway, this is a newer Ray Bradbury book, but I don't have the 1st/1st. Now I do!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4354/36296795720_7e25279df6_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/XiqyNL)

And lastly, I do not normally collect BCEs. But I saw this copy of The Shrinking Man, and it's a BCE published in 1956 in really good shape. So it became another "why not?"

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4332/36296797660_10e8a11d35_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/Xiqzod)

I don't know if anyone reads him, but I also received this Jeff Strand book from Dark Regions this week. I have a high school friend that writes historical romances and knowing my propensity for horror and weirdness, she sent me to her friend Jeff. I read his book Pressure and was hooked! I have several of his signed editions, as well as a signed manuscript with an unbinded paperback jacket. This one is his newest, and available via Dark Regions Press if interested!

Love the "Dead Clown Barbeque" Dez (it resonates with me for some strange reason) - I'd actually downloaded this to my Kindle Fire a week or so back based purely on the title, but have yet to read it (currently on an Edward Lee / Ray Garton jag)

As I have previously posted, I have all 4 1st editions signed of Joe Hill's novels. Up until this week, I had only 3 of the 4 ARCs of his books. This week, thanks to Biblio.com, I found the one I was missing: 20th Century Ghosts.

Completism (I know, I know) is impossible. Joe Hill's comics iterations and "Keys" now make gathering all of his stuff not only difficult, but a waste of money.

That you are!! You know, back in the day I hooked up with a woman in Ct. who had similar skills to help me procure my complete U.S. 1/1 collection. I gave her 10% over costs for any books dhe found on my behalf. Worked out pretty damn good for both of us.

Well, it seems that I have totally neglected my collecting thread! But no more! I was in Toronto to see Stephen King a week ago, and in addition to getting my books signed, I found a few interesting things.

But first...drum roll please...signatures obtained in Toronto, including The Shining that I worked so hard to find in great condition!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4356/36646072636_12f23afba4_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/XQhGEy)

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4421/36692247735_497abc1264_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/XUnmUX)

And my signatures from Owen!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4434/36646071786_71f8ba9c1d_c.jpg

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4362/36692245965_0edace2ac7_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/XUnmor)

But of course, I also had to wander through a few book stores. What's a vacation without bookstores?! And I found some interesting things including this 1st Arkham House printing of Lovecraft's The Horror in the Museum which has never been read (and unfortunately is going into the Christmas gift pile);

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4422/36692249775_210020d3b9_c.jpg

several Robert Bloch proofs and a 1st edition copy of The King of Terrors:

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4369/36692251375_c808509a82_c.jpg

a whole bunch of unread paperbacks in great condition (The Illustrated Man is a 1st/3rd);

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4410/36522959302_f3c16b0ced_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/XDpHmS)

including this cool copy of Tomorrow Midnight that was illustrated in comic book form:

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4418/35857296224_84a12abb93_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/WCA1Vf)

and this is random (but I think totally cool): it's a pamphlet from 1900 entitled "An Illustrated Lesson in Hypnotism."

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4410/36532194912_ed787f9de5_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/XEe3Mw)

A bunch more things appeared last week at my door. (Am I the only one that has a hard time with the preordering? "Honey, I bought this months ago, it's just only shipped now." The reply to which is a disbelieving: "Uh huh.") Anyway, first up is my Doctor Sleep gift edition. I think Cemetery Dance did a fabulous job here:

By the way, I won a second copy of this, which will probably be available if anyone is interested.

My signed copy of Shivers VII also showed up. (Apologies for the picture--I already put a cover on and was too lazy to remove it.)

And finally, the Blu Ray UTD set arrived. I was unsure of the purchase, and whether I would keep it. I was hoping for a good quality collectible, but thought it would end up being cheap. I even used multiple gift cards for the purchase so I wouldn't feel like I was wasting money. I was so wrong! First off, it is big--about 6 1/2" in diameter--and heavy! I had to put it on my postal scale (curiosity, you know) and it weighs 3lbs, 5oz. Will I ever watch the DVDs? Maybe, maybe not. But I am so glad I picked this one up!

Work has been super slow, so I haven't been spending much money on books. Such a sad story, I know. I have picked up a couple things, including the Doctor Sleep slipcase and Don't Turn Down the Lights that others have posted, but nothing else King.

I did however get a lovely anniversary present: a box of books all signed by Ray Bradbury. I had to buy it--how often can you buy a BOX of signed books?! A few were duplicates to my collection, but below are the rest:

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4438/35856996194_c1aaf07773_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/WCytJj)

I also found this on ebay, which included the original letter to BOMC, imploring them to make it a selection. I just love finding these old proofs!

And my last listing for now, my new pride and joy: Leave Yesterday Alone and Musings. When I went to buy this my boyfriend insisted that I upgrade from the numbered to the lettered. (Seriously, how often does that happen?!) It is my first-ever lettered book, and I was tickled to get "M" for Matheson. I love that they were able to put his signature in it, and had his son, Richard Christian Matheson, sign as well.

You can't go wrong with Matheson. And the Gauntlet lettereds are reasonably priced. Did you get blue rubbing on your hands from THE SHINING? I was warned by Camelot Books not to touch it without white gloves so I am waiting for the Sub Press dust jacket to come before I take the book out of the plastic bag.
My MUSINGS had the letter 'H'. Although I never asked for a particular letter, Gauntlet (Barry Hoffman) usually sends me an 'H'.

No rubbing on my hands from The Shining. Naturally, I was very careful after all the hubbub, but I didn't see much transfer. I received one of the earlier copies that didn't come in a plastic bag, so I had some transfer onto the slipcase originally and added the bag myself. I can't wait to see what they do with the dustjacket for that one!

Congrats on the Matheson! I got the numbered for now, but might get a lettered later down the road.

Like I said, I'd planned on the numbered, but with encouragement, upgraded. Plus it's really his last hurrah...I couldn't say no.

Yesterday was my 1 year anniversary being a member of the forum. Over the past year, I have gained a great deal of knowledge, courtesy of the fine folks on this site, as well as expanded my collection exponentially (I actually joined because I saw a post on The Collector's website for the infamous Shannon Sale). I appreciate all the help and information I have acquired through the site. It's an amazing place, and I'm very happy to be a part of it!!! Of course, if I sat down and figured out how much money I spent through and due in part to this site, I'd probably have a heart attack. But I can say that without a doubt that my collection (and pocketbook) have changed a great deal thanks to TDT.

Speaking of which, the first item I received this week I first glimpsed in the Intriguing Stephen King/King Related/Dark Tower Auctions-Sales thread. So thanks to RF for pointing it out! I've been wanting the gift edition of From a Buick 8 for awhile, and was happy to get my hands on a good copy!

Continuing on the CD makes awesome books vein, I also received the trade edition copies of Screamplays and Smoke and Mirrors. I can't get over the quality of these two books. CD does amazing work!

Thanks again for your assistance!!!

M'am, this is a "Stephen King" collecting and book discussing website!!! There is no room herein for "Puppies, lying prostrate for their belly to be rubbed". We simply cannot have it!!! Please make the appropriate changes or you are going from the "Attacker" class, to the "Victim" class in a big hurry!!! "Thanks for your assistance"!!! That should read, "Fuck you, I got one"!!! LOL LOL LOL

South Carolina, Sheesh!!! LOL LOL

Of course, just kidding!!! Great acquisition!!!

Had it been something more rare, then yes, I could see "Fuck you, I got one." But it was just a gift edition that most of you probably have--that, and I spent over $100 more than issue price. So just a thanks is fine.

And if you are thinking: She lives in South Carolina so she's being a nice, southern girl, you couldn't be more wrong. I spent all my formidable book-learnin' years in Pennsylvania. And if that "South Carolina, Sheesh!!!" comment implies you think I'm a sweet southern girl, then my dear Merlin, you WILL get a nice big FUCK YOU! :FU:

(And just in case you think I'm serious, I'll put it in your terms, Merlin: LOL LOL LOL!!!)

How about a little art for my posts this week? Below is my Jill Bauman art wall. I bought all three off ebay, 2 from Jill directly.

The entire wall:

On the top, we have a print from the PS Publishing 20th Anniversary edition of Christine:

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4364/35878271093_658555b80c_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/WErw1V)

In the middle is a print from Cemetery Dance's Dark Delicacies. I'm particularly proud of this one. I thought it would look cool in a red frame, so I bought an unfinished one and painted it myself. I think it looks great!

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4363/36518503802_07768db321_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/XD1STU)

And at the bottom from Gauntlet Press: Richard Matheson's The Twilight Zone Scripts:

I think I may pick up one more of hers to go above Christine (got my eye on a another print from Christine). The prints sit across from my desk...I must say, I do like my new Bauman wall!
