Good news! Not surprising. It'd be surprising if he wasn't working on a new novel.

I don't know. He sort of slowed down just a tad in the 90s. Lord knows he took his sweet time with the Dark Tower novels. Maybe the accident showed him how precious life really is, and now writes like there's no tomorrow. :)

According to Stephen King:
"The main character is a kid who learns how to play guitar, and I can relate to this guy because he's not terribly good. He's just good enough to catch on with a number of bands and play for a lot of years. The song that he learns to play first is the song that I learned to play first, which was 'Cherry, Cherry' by Neil Diamond. One of the great rock progressions: E-A-D-A."

I love it. Keep em coming... there has only been less than a handful of his books I have not loved... some I have loved more than any other book... Good for him and us... that man does not need to work at his age but you can tell he loves his craft... I admire him.

There will most likely be both gift/artist and signed limiteds of each new novel.

Even if there are no "signings", which isn't written in stone, there are possible readings, interviews, etc., where King will sign some of the books. If there are no signings then the amount of signed books available would be less and the price more.

There has GOT to be a US S/L and GE of Revival......right?

Rarely does King not have a S/L these days it seems, and I can't recall a situation in the last ten years where he has produced two books in a row without a S/L.

Edit.......there was Cell and Lisey's Story in 2006.

SirFolio16

I am hoping for a S/L of Revival as well... but if anyone is publishing one they certainly are keeping it under their hat... I have not even caught rumors of one yet.

and WH Smith (http://www.whsmith.co.uk/products/revival/product/9781444789171) even cheaper still! (£13.60 - but only Free Delivery on orders over £15.00)

Neither have mention of a Limited edition yet (I would expect a WH Smith one with purple lightning!)

My only issue is that my girlfriend is going to Germany on early days of November, so I might have to change and could only attend the one in Portland. I'd love to attend the ones in Kansas City, Wichita and Austin, but it'd be too expensive since I'm going there alone.

Well...until there are more details I won't decide anything.

The venue might want you to only get Revival, that you purchase there, signed. King doesn't seem to care.

At the Sarasota signing they said only one signature, no inscriptions and only Mr. Mercedes could be signed. King kept to the one signature and no inscription (He did write "For Brian" in mine) but signed whatever you put before him.

We need to have DT hats or something so we all recognize each other when we go to events.

I'll see what I can come up with

South Portland!

I've been lucky to be at the Portsmouth and one of the Boston signings...this will be an easy trip.

I'm assuming it's at the Barnes and Noble there - the question will be how they manage the crowd, if it's tickets in advance or waiting in a long line....

My dream is that it's a "bring a book" signing, or even one where he'd personalize...but I don't expect either.

so, from what I've geared off this thread... possible Austin attendees so far are:
me
Merlin
Tommy
Zelig
gunslinger41
Bev
Icry4oy
possibly Library policeman?
possibly Cook?

RF... don't know if we have the most ... but we have the coolest ;)

Dick (Dolso) is thinking about it and I do believe RF said he was going to Austin as well. Of course a lot will depend on the venue and ticket prices. But if I can make it work, I'll damn well be there. If only to meet, Terry and that fucking Fiero!! LOL

He has a point. The broken font would seem to be at odds with promoting folks to visit the site. Just about any other sensible font would be more appropriate, no? Love the image, though.

SKMB MOD response to signing other books at Revival tour:

First, not all events are going to be straight book signings but that information will be given on Monday for each venue. Only REVIVAL will be allowed for signing at the events that are book signings, so it would not be possible to get any other book or other memorabilia signed in its place. Additionally, book signings are limited to two hours so events will be ticketed and only those who have a ticket will be able to have their copy of REVIVAL signed so especially with your distance from that event, you would want to make sure you had a ticket in advance for either a book signing or stage appearance in order not to be taking the chance that you would be driving all that way for nothing.

Tickets are good. No signing is bad. And why do they care what book he signs if they make folks buy the new book to get a signature? This sounds like it's trending toward the dreaded pre-signed lottery approach at some events which ends up only pissing people off and discouraging people from attending. There will be plenty of those on ebay at a fraction of the cost and aggravation of attending.

Rahfa
09-14-2014, 05:52 AM
Yeah, speaking just for myself, anything past about a 90 minute drive makes this a tough call for "just" a signing.

I imagine they'll annouce the venue, and then sell vouchers in advance - so I'd be surprised if they make you show up early and wait in line in the gamble that you get a ticket.

But if anybody wanted my (unsolicited) advice, I'd say an event like this (as opposed to a reception, etc) is not worth an 8-hour flight/drive. It's neat, yes, but briefly.

Exactly. At ~3 books per minute, he can do an easy 300-350 books, but he will barely look up at each person.

While in Paris, he signed for about 2h / 2h30, and signed about 600-650 books while there were about 3,000 people at the venue. Sometimes talked a bit to the people there, but you should keep in mind that you basically have 10seconds with Steve at a signing. It may be more, but it's up to him if he decides to take an extra 20secs or so.

I recently got recontacted by the first fan that arrived at the venue. He was there over 24h prior to signing !

Tickets go on sale at our registers at 9AM on Tuesday, September 16.
Tickets are only available in-store at BookPeople. They are not available over the phone or online.
We will sell ONE ticket per person. (In other words, one person cannot purchase multiple tickets for people who are not present.)
Each ticket admits ONE person to the signing line and will be redeemed for ONE signed copy of Revival at the event.
Only copies of Revival will be signed at this event, no memorabilia and no other books.
Due to time constraints, posed photos will not be allowed at the signing table.

Why aren't tickets available online?
We have a limited number of tickets we can sell (400, to be precise). Simply put, we don't want to see these tickets go to scalpers. We want you, the readers who support your independent bookstore year after year, King's biggest fans right here in Austin, to have the opportunity to attend this very special rare event. As Stephen King fans ourselves, we are taking this seriously, y'all.
We cannot take orders for signed copies of Revival for people who cannot attend the event.

Rainy Day books:
EVENT OVERVIEW: Internationally Bestselling Author Stephen King will appear In Conversation about his career and work, and his New Book Revival.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Stephen King is the Author of more than fifty Books, all of them worldwide Bestsellers. His recent work includes Doctor Sleep and Under the Dome, now a major TV miniseries on CBS. His novel 11/22/63 was named a top ten Book of 2011 by The New York Times Book Review and won The Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Mystery/Thriller as well as the Best Hardcover Book Award from the International Thriller Writers Association. He is the recipient of the 2003 National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. He lives in Bangor, Maine, with his wife, novelist Tabitha King.

ABOUT THE NEW BOOK: In a small New England town, over half a century ago, a shadow falls over a small boy playing with his toy soldiers. Jamie Morton looks up to see a striking man, the new minister. Charles Jacobs, along with his beautiful wife, will transform the local church. The men and boys are all a bit in love with Mrs. Jacobs; the women and girls feel the same about Reverend Jacobs, including Jamie's mother and beloved sister, Claire. With Jamie, the Reverend shares a deeper bond based on a secret obsession. When tragedy strikes the Jacobs family, this charismatic preacher curses God, mocks all religious belief, and is banished from the shocked town.
Jamie has demons of his own. Wed to his guitar from the age of thirteen, he plays in bands across the country, living the nomadic lifestyle of bar-band rock and roll while fleeing from his family's horrific loss. In his mid-thirties, addicted to heroin, stranded, desperate, Jamie meets Charles Jacobs again, with profound consequences for both men. Their bond becomes a pact beyond even the Devil's devising, and Jamie discovers that "revival" has many meanings.

This rich and disturbing novel spans five decades on its way to the most terrifying conclusion Stephen King has ever written. It's a masterpiece from King, in the great American tradition of Frank Norris, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Edgar Allan Poe. The Publication and Sales Date of Revival is Tuesday, November 11, 2014.

Wow!! That is shady! Die hard King fans not in Austin are screwed.......I would have gladly bought VIP tickets at most any price...I even flew to Hartford, CT for the event, but this is ridiculous. Hope there are 400 fans IN AUSTIN willing to go purchase tickets one at a time. Now Book People has made an enemy rather than a fan. I have always supported locally owned book stores......this is CRAP!!!

Stephen King - Revival — at GW Lisner Auditorium

Sep 23 2014 7:00 pm
Think of the many different meanings of revival-and you'll still be amazed by what King, author of more than 50 worldwide bestsellers, has in store in his latest supernatural mystery-thriller, Revival. The strange haunting of Jamie Morton begins when he's a boy and his town's new minister pays a call. The shadow cast that day will stretch long, for both Jamie and his family. Only decades later, when he's a burned-out, strung-out musician can Jamie face the full extent of what the Revd. Charles Jacobs has done to his life.
Tickets go on sale Tuesday, September 23.
Note: Each ticket will include a first edition of REVIVAL. Mr. King will pre-sign a limited number of copies of REVIVAL, which will be randomly distributed, along with the other first editions, to ticketholders at the end of the event. Please note that this event will not include a public book signing.

well.... that answers a lot....
1) does not look like I will be able to purchase tickets for anyone.... even my intown friend i was going to have go with me....
2) 400 tickets for austin- for a King signing?.... with a day's advance notice.... there will be 400 people camped out.... in line today by 6:00 pm. Gauranteed .... if not earlier.
Since I have to work, and can not camp out for 24 hours, I'm guessing I'm not getting a ticket for myself - This type thing definitely favors the unemployed and students.... Will to buy a ticket on the secondary market.

Well, this sucks for KC, but since I live here, my wife and I are going to go and take a chance. How many books does he usually pre-sign and what are the odds at getting one? I have no signed books by King simply because most of the time, I just can't fork over the money for it. This is my chance to get one. But I want to hear him speak as well. I wished for such a small tour, he'd have done both, speak and sign at each of them :(

Total shit show......NYC day of event, doors open at 9am...I can't camp out 24 hours before for a signing.....South Portland I'd have to drive 8 hours rount trip the week BEFORE the even to purchase a book, then another 8 hours a week later to get it signed.

This caters really ONLY to local people...They really shook things up this time

Yeah Dave.... it definitely favors the unemployed and.... here in Austin, the 140,000+ young college students that have nothing else to do.

I'm going to go by very early before work tomorrow like 4/5 am - the I'll stand in line for 3-4 hours... but that's about all this old man's bladder will allow.
Problem is, pretty sure I'll end up just driving by and getting into work early - because I'm thinking 400 people will be lined up before midnight at the latest.

I think at this point I'm leaning towards D.C. Getting to sleep in, see King, reading, Q&A, and just a chance at a signed book seems like a better event than waiting all night for a chance at tickets. I was considering NYC, but the event info. is starting to turn me off. I hate how all these no-tickets-in-advance events seem to be catering to locals.

Also, someone had asked about the speed of which the 400 or so people will line up. I got in line for an UTD tour venue around 2:00am and was 40th in line. Someone that I know didn't want to wait overnight, so she went by the venue around 3:00pm and still got a ticket for the signing that night. So you really never know. If I had to guess (just based on the location), I'd say that the 400 tickets in NYC will go much quicker.

At the Boulder, CO event, King gave his speech and short Q&A session. Upon exiting each person showed their ticket (I believeve they marked the ticket) and was handed a book. When you opened the book, you found out if it was signed. IIRC, the odds of getting a signed copy were ~1 out of 8.
King usually signs 300-400, so the odds are determined by the attendance at the event.

I believe we scooped the internet world.

Toady, at 7:39 am PDT (10:39 am EDT) 14:39 GMT, we began breaking the news as to specifics of King's Revival signing tour.
Most if not all of the information came earlier than the official announcement time.

Thanks to several key members for helping me get this news out to our members.
The members shall remain anonymous (unless they themselves wish to disclose their identity).

KC for me. The random method of distributing signed books let some of the wind out of my sails. However, this is my first chance to see Mr. King in person, so I'm still pretty excited.

At the Paris signing, I got to the bookstore approx 6 hours before the signing started and I was #223 in the line.

WHAT????????????

Haha yep. An employee came and wrote your line number on your hand. It was November - and it was cold!! I smoked a LOT of cigarettes that morning!

Man that is brutal... did you get a singed book though?

Yeah I took my 1st/1st The Shining (my personal favourite) and got it signed.

Oh thats good then... can you imagine not getting one signed??? That would have sucked!

I was delayed by Paris traffic from the airport and the line stretched right round the block. I figure I was in the 600's and the last but one group to get a book signed!!

Talking about the college students.... I might just revamp my strategy ...

maybe I'll sleep in.... get down there at 9:00 with a brand new crisp $100.00 bill... and see if anyone wants to quickly make $70.00 in beer money.

that seems like a good strategy

Total shit show......NYC day of event, doors open at 9am...I can't camp out 24 hours before for a signing.....South Portland I'd have to drive 8 hours rount trip the week BEFORE the even to purchase a book, then another 8 hours a week later to get it signed.

This caters really ONLY to local people...They really shook things up this time

Right there with you David. We're considering the extra 2 hours to go south to DC instead of East to NYC.

No way in fuck am I camping out in a city of 25690268934895630 people to maybe get a bracelet.

I hope this is an option. I'm curious how the tickets will be sold. The way the other cities are working out, they will probably be sold in person only.

Does anybody know if any of the events have sold out?

It's nice that they are trying to eliminate the scalpers, but they aren't. They'll just get scalpers willing to do things the old-fashioned way by paying some kid to get in line early. Terry, I agree with your attitude and I hope you find one of those guys so it works out for you.

Sorry if this has been covered. So if I understand it correctly, if you were planning to attend Austin, but you don't actually show up in person tomorrow to buy a ticket, then you are basically SOL. Is that correct?

I've never been close to a city when these events occur. Now, I'm actually in the D.C. area and there's no way I'm playing this bullshit game.
