Contest #3 - Nort!

We don't get a lot about Nort, but here's what we have from the original version of The Gunslinger:

"The odor of devil-grass was a rank miasma. The eyes were damned, the staring, glaring eyes of those who see but do not see, eyes ever turned inward to the sterile hell of dreams beyond control, dreams unleashed, risen out of the stinking swamps of the unconscious."

"The cracked lips writhed, lifted, revealing the green, mossy teeth, and the gunslinger thought: - He's not even smoking it anymore. He's chewing it. He's really chewing it.

And on the heels of that: - He's a dead man. He should have been dead a year ago."

I was just about to comment on the use of light and shadow too, (seriously RofG, get out of my head :lol: :couple:) really makes the illustration stand out and gives it real depth - its awesome, Mike!! :cool:

i just bought a dave mckean book. and i think it's incredible. his artwork is pretty disturbing. a lot darker than his commercial work.

I am very close to being done. The painting part of the piece is 99% complete. The rest is the actual construction and some trim work. The construction piece shouldn't take too long now that I have all of the tools that I need. If I work on it a decent bit tonight I should have it done tomorrow night. Then I just have to get my lighting set up to photograph it, since I can't do a scan.

I'm pretty pleased with how it's turning out.

Tonight. I promise. The painting itself is done and all of the wood pieces are prepared, but my goddamned screws were too short. So I will be buying the correct length of screw on the way home, Hannah's going to assist me in securing everything in place, and then I'll be done and ready to post.

Well, here it is. Not really an illustration, per se. I was going more for the concept of the penultimate weedeater. I always took the drug to be something like a mix between heroin and acid. The painting is acrylic on cardboard puzzle pieces and dried cedar, masonite backing with cedar trim.

I think it has been anticipated a bit too much, but I suppose that's all right. I just wish I was able to get a better photograph of it right now. Anyway, enough goddmaned apologetics.
