I was just curious what everyone's favorite Stephen King cameo was...

I think I'll always enjoy his role in Creepshow, although I don't know if that's really a cameo since it's a bigger role.

How 'bout everyone else?

I love Jordy Verrill. His overacting was fantastic in that segment. My roommate and I call each other "lunkheads" because of that character, even.

I like his cameo in Kingdom Hospital because of how they work up to it throughout the whole series.

I always liked him as the creepy Pizza Delivery Guy in Rose Red. I also love him in The Stand, although that's a little larger role.

Do you think, if they ever made a Dark Tower movie...

do you think he will play himself?

I should hope so, Matt.

Heh, wonder if that'd be the one time he'd be perverse and not go for it.

Matt

I would hope so too--it would be totally fitting and proper imo. :D

I think my favorite has to be on the Simpsons. Just cause I'm such a big fan of the show.

Marge (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001413/): So, Mr King, what tale of horror and the macabre are you working on now?
Stephen King (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000175/): Actually, I'm taking a break from horror for the time being.
Marge (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001413/): Oh, that's too bad.
Stephen King (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000175/): At the moment I'm working on a biography of Benjamin Franklin. He was a fascinating man who discovered electricity, and used it to torture children and green mountain men. And that key he tied to a kite - it opened the gates to HELL.
Marge (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001413/): Well, when you go back to horror will you let me know?
Stephen King (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000175/): Will do.
[writes down a note: CALL MARGE RE: HORROR]

that last part is the best.

Hahah

I love the episode where they are driving through Maine and hit this dude walking at the side of the road.

Someone cries out "You've hit worldwide bestselling horror author Stephen King!". The guy gets up and yells out "Hey, I'm Dean Koontz!"

So they reverse over him :)

This is a hard one for me...my favorite role I saw King in was as Jordy Verrill, however this was a bit large for a cameo...next to this I think it was Pet Sematary, where he is the minister presiding over Gage's funeral.

I'd have to concur on the "the Pizza guy" bit. That was the first time I really recognized him in one of his movies, mostly because I'd never been looking prior to that. So I'll always have a soft spot of "Pizza Guy King". XD

Oh man, definitely Jordy Verrill. How could we ever forget such classics as:

"HOLE-LEE-SHIT!"

"I'd be dipped in shit if that ain't a meteor!"

"I wonder how much they'd pay for it up the college...?" [Followed by echoes]

"Pay off that bank loan! That's the ticket!" [After fantasizing he could get $200.00 for the meteor "up the college"]

"Gotta cool that sum-bitch off."

"Oh, Jordy Verrill, you lunk-head." [Followed by echoes]

"Verrill luck, always in. You spell that kid of luck B-A-D."

"METEOR SHIT!"

"Maybe I could glue it back together in the mornin'."

"Oh no! Not there!" [After getting naked and realizing where the green stuff has spread]

Not an on-screen cameo, but I loved him turning up in The Princess Bride novel, the anniversary edition - really made me smile.

Odetta
05-20-2007, 01:06 PM
how does he turn up in the novel?

Darkthoughts
05-21-2007, 01:03 AM
As himself.

William Goldman writes a sort of afterword to the original story called "Buttercup's Baby - An Explanation" He says that its discovered by Morgenstern's estate (the fictional author of Princess Bride) that he wrote a second book Buttercup's baby and that the estates lawyers want Goldman to edit and abridge this book also. Goldman says hes not interested at the time, but a few years later when he is he decides to go for it and SK has been offered the project instead. There follows some fictional correspondance between Goldman and SK which is quite funny.

SK also gives Goldman a nod somewhere or other - I'd bookmarked a page that gave all their connections...I'll have a search for it and post a link.

Here we go, just a little trivia really:

William Goldman was referred to in Stephen King's 1986 novel It. In that book he is said to be the only good writer to ever go to Hollywood and remain good. Interestingly, Goldman later wrote the screenplays for King's novels Misery, Hearts in Atlantis, and Dreamcatcher.
Rob Reiner, Stand By Me director, also directed Princess Bride.

Favorite King cameo is Rosered as the Pizza guy definitely.

Pizza Delivery Guy: Hey, this is some place, huh? Is it haunted?
Emery: Yeah. By the ghosts of delivery men who asked too many stupid questions and never escaped.

That was Family Guy, I just saw the episode & was going to post about how hilarious I thought it was--but then I thought it maight be in poor taste. Glad someone else thought it was funny!

ETA: I was under the impression that although he personally does not make an appearance in all his movies, that at least his books do. I've noticed it a few times, but right now I can't think of anygood examples.
