128 short stories, one winner! Choose your favorite short story in each of the battles below. The winners will advance until we have one winner per bracket. There are four brackets. Those bracket winners will then face off against each other. The short story in each of the battles that gets five votes first wins, that's when voting for that battle will end.

I have to go with "The Crate"Krystle: everyone else ignores me, but maybe you can tell me what's so good about this story that people keep voting for it, even against such masterpieces as The Ballad?...

Well, in this round, I'm not a fan of "Graveyard Shift" all that much. But I think the main reasons this stands out is because of the Creepshow short. It was so damn memorable.

Jean... for me, I just love The Crate... its a childhood thing. The story, the comic, the movie... it all plays on those core emotions of simple fear and excitement. And, when I got older and reread it, I found there were things I could still enjoy about it as an adult. It's a simple yet enjoyable short.

I see. I didn't even know such a movie existed, have never read a comic in my life, and only read the story a few weeks ago, so no memories are attached. It didn't impress me in the least. I have been dumbfounded all this time at the sight of it beating good stories, but at least you have given an explanation I can understand (if not relate to).
