https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Stephen_King#Removal_of_signature_image_-_request_for_comments

We've received a communication regarding the inclusion of Mr. King's signature as an image in this article's infobox. While facsimiles of his signature are relatively easy to find on the Internet, and there are many other bios that include signature images in Wikipedia, this particular copy is of high quality and it appears in the second Google hit when one searches for Mr. King's name. As such, the concern is that the image is being actively used to perform forgeries. IP cases that cover the ownership (or lack thereof) of a signature are sparse, and there seems to be no clear consensus as to their legal status. Wikipedia aims to err on the side of caution and courtesy however, especially in the case of biographies of living people. As such, I would like to see if there is consensus and community approval to remove the image from the infobox permanently. Please indicate your support or oppose opinions below (as well as any legal, guideline- or policy-based arguments) in the usual fashion. Thank you all in advance.

So does that mean this site is next?

I always wondered why they did put Steve's signature, because yes, that probably ease forgeries.
But this may have a Streisand effect. If not removed, i would go for a way smaller picture.

The ones on this website is for fighting against forgeries.. but yes, this may be a problem for the exact same reasons.

Perhaps I am obtuse, but where is the signature shown on wikipedia?

If I recall correctly the signature was on the right side in the bio box under his image, but now it is gone.

I just wonder if they would remove Barak Obama's signature if requested.

what's the point? I believe he has signed tons of books and such, and any of these signatures can be, or has been, posted somewhere, let alone the fact that it may be forged directly from the original. What is the difference between there being one instance at one site and there being billions of them around?

Not worth nearly as much. And really, what would you forge it on? He certainly hasn't written anything worthwhile, interesting or entertaining.

There is no difference. Unless someone thought they could get EVERY image of King's sig removed from the internet it'd be a exercise in futility.

Agreed. This seems to not be very realistic in terms of making a difference.

Lots of articles about authors contain their signature in the infobox. For example, look at F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Much ado about nothing.

Come to think of it, isn't that the official motto of Wikipedia?
