Many of you may have already heard, but I thought I’d post it here also. I have a two-part offering of cases for the first edition of “Carrie”.

Slip Cases
http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/Carrie_first_2_11_.JPG

The first part consists of a Slip Case. The only limitation on these is that there will not be more than 60 made. It will be engraved with your choice of one of the original pieces by Rachel Readman - see pics. Even though it won’t have the additional art or letter designation of the tray cases, it will be similar in design and material but is substantially less expensive – made of Maple with ‘streaked’ Maple spine, a spine label matching the ones used for the Lettered Cases and black felt liner ~~ This will be available for $135. I will have some of these available to ship by the end of February.

If you’d like to order a slip case or would like more info please email me at info@bookslipcase.com. Feel free to PM me but be aware, I'm much quicker responding to emails.....

The second part of the offer is for Matching Lettered "Carrie" cases. These will only be available for those that purchased one of the "Salem's Lot" Lettered cases. All of the ‘Lot purchasers should have received an email with this offer in December. If you didn’t get one or otherwise need to get in touch with me about them, feel free to email me at info@bookslipcase.com. (or you can PM) These traycases will be engraved with your choice of one of the cover engravings shown below, will have your matching Letter and will also have one piece of original art produced by Rachel Readman mounted on the inside of the lid.

Original Art Engravings
http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Engraving_eyes_only.JPG http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Engraving_Prayers_only.JPG

The pic below is an example of Rachels' art and is an example of one of the original pieces that will be contained in this case. Rachel has said that it will be a 'mixed-bag' - some oils, some water-colors, some colored-pencil, etc. Please visit her website at http://www.rachelreadman.com

Original Additional Art
http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Carrie_Oil_1_Doc.JPG

"Carrie" will be the final case of the matching set of cases that started with "Night Shift" (art by Glen Chadbourne) - then to "The Shining" (Glen Chadbourne and Erin Wells art) - and then to "Salem's Lot" (Glen Chadbourne and Ned Dameron art).

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch......

Ah very cool! A nice piece to finish off the set.
I also love the fact you are doing a slipcase option too. If I had a first edition Carrie, I'd be real keen.

I've had a couple questions on the cover art ....

Rachel did take a little 'artistic license' with the art used for the engraving below. The piece is meant to represent (and to my mind succeeded in representing) several of the main themes of the story --- the fire surrounding her overbearing and zealously religious mother who is pictured on the cross. The eyes looking down being the 'hidden' girl/ second personality/unrealised power that only presents herself later.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Engraving_eyes_only.JPG

(I wonder if "zealously" is even a word.....???)

From the first page of “Carrie”……

“August 19, 1966

It was reliably reported by several persons that a rain of stones fell from a clear blue sky on Carlin Street in the town of Chamberlain on August 17th. The stones fell principally on the home of Mrs. Margaret White, damaging the roof extensively and ruining two gutters and a downspout valued at approximately $25. Mrs. White, a widow, lives with her three-year old daughter, Carietta.
Mrs. White could not be reached for comment.”

In all honesty, I hadn't read this book in over 30 years until I received this piece. I had to go back and read it again to refresh my memory!

I think this is one of the iconic scenes that everyone remembers!

Hey eveyone, good to read the feedback here and know you are all enjoying what I have come up with for Carrie. I'm just working on the 8th piece now and Dick has scans and photos of the seven I finished already.

Sorry, I guess I've been a little neglectful in talking to you -- been busy building the cases. I'm loving your pieces though! They have a completely different 'feel' than a lot of the other art I've seen.

BTW - for those of you that ordered the lettered case - if you didn't designate which engraving you wanted on the lid of your case, please either e-mail me (info @ bookslipcase.com) or PM me with your preference of either "Eyes" or "Prayers" .

Thanks.......

Oh my comment was in no way designed to imply I didn't think the piece was worth the asking price, just that that kind of money is more than I could pay... I'm sure to those who collect this type of art, it is well worth the money. And again, this is an awesome scultpure of Oy and Jake!

Hmmmm, I get wood too - but not so much now as 30-40 years ago.....

I've been sort of neglectful in posting Rachels art. She's progressing nicely ---

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/12_Carrie_doc.JPG

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/10_Carrie_oil_Pencil_on_Bristol_board_doc.jpg

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/13_Carrie_doc_High_Voltage_Rock-n-Roll.jpg

The 'Eyes' engraving is slightly in the lead - but only by about 2 or 3.....

And you're right Bill - I think a person actually has to try to do these things (sculpting, painting, etc.) to appreciate how much time they actually entail. Aside from the massive amount of talent and perseverance required, it take countless hours of patience to produce something even remotely desirable!!

Would be interesting to know why you all like the Black Forest Cuckoo Clock and the previous picture so much? Probably hard or impossible to describe for many of you and you may not even know why yourself, maybe you 'just do'. It would be helpful to me in my work if you could explain.

There have been several that I have been very impressed with! The first one with Carrie walking in the flames, the blue room had cool detail and feel. I really liked the colors in the second to last one, Carrie and Mrs.White illuminated by fire. The cuckoo clock has great detail, as do several of the pieces, there is something disturbing and off about it!

Thanks for all the awesome art Rachel!

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/16_Carrie_Torment_and_Rage.jpg

(I think my mom had that expression on her face every now and then as I was growing up!!)

Probably my least favorite of everything shown so far. The mom looks too much like Ronnie James Dio!

I have something quite different and unique from the norm planned for a couple of these last few.

And I think you have certainly succeeded!! I believe I've added another to my list of favorites!!

This is an etching on copper board. Rachel sent 3 different pics of it since the copper sheen doesn't show up like it should...

"Final Revenge"

WOW!!! That's really something!!

Final Revenge is my favorite so far. Cuckoo clock and the kitchen scene are close 2nd and close 3rd. 4th would be the colorful stage scene. I like the others too, just throwing in my top rankings for the conversation.

Final revenge ist the best for me. Mainly because its a "moving" picture where you have thoughts about what happens in the next few seconds. Its sort of cinema in your head, brilliant picture!

The Mother does look a little bit like Ronnie James Dio now that you mention it LOL. That was not deliberate or intentional. However she is meant to be butch and man-like. That 'Dick's Mother glaring look' haha was what I hoped to capture in her expression.

There are a couple of these pieces that I would have done differently or that don't stand out among the crowd. I think doing this many, any artist would find that would happen and as always you're never going to please everyone all of the time. I honestly NEVER feel a work is completely finished and could always re-work, refine or start all over, especially when looking back at past work months or years later. I find I just have to let go of this otherwise I'd never finish anything, it's an odd phenomena that I am sure most artists, musicians, writers etc experience. I only hope that nobody is dissatisfied with the peice(s) they receive with cases.

I'm relieved that the etching is getting the thumbs up, I wasn't sure what you would all feel about it given that fire, colour and detail seemed to be pushing the right buttons.

Just going to try something out for the next one to see how it looks and if I feel it works well, it will add another spice to the recipe and be something a little different again to Final Revenge.

More to follow shortly...

Rachel, I don't want to sound like a dirty old man asking is there going to be one for the shower scene or more appropriately the post shower scene? I might be dirty and I am a man, but I am not old! in all seriousness it is an important scene in the book, and it could be done tastefully.

I imagine the scene as a tiled floor, possibly one foot visible, and a SMALL amount of blood in/on the edge of the drain. Maybe even an over/under shot-scene, above the breasts shock, and the aforementioned scene.

Going with the scene from her eyes would be a really cool perspective, nice idea Jerome! I would think one of her getting teased and harassed in the aftermath of that scene would be a must as well!

Don't worry, I'm on it. The shower scene is coming, one more to come first.

Do I do the shower scene as an etching, painting or both? Maybe pencil, pen and ink with paint or just inks, pastels, acrylic or oil paint?? What would you all like to see?

Randall Flagg

I am not an artist, nor a visualize person. Don't take my idea, but if asked, I see Carrie's distraught face (corner/angle shot, no more than 15% of the entire image) in a mirror, somehow (Not sure how to frame the POV), the reflection "reflects"
a single drop of blood. You are from the UK where an artistic image of a 17 year old might be embraced. In the USA it clearly must be inferred (if breasts, or below waist are depicted), that the subject(s) are of age.
The rules/laws make it tough for artists, but also are designed to make it tough on predators/pedophiles.

I vote for oils, I love the detail in the oil pieces you have done for this project. This is a Scene that definitely deserves to be one of your awesome oil paintings (like Carrie & the Cross, Carrie sitting in the chair covered in blood, etc.). I have been able to tell the medium on most of the pieces, but I am not sure on Torment & Rage and the Clock?

Your 'long awaited' news, Rachel? Anything to do with a Crimson King?

I have been thinking this since I saw this piece just figure I should put in my two cents before it's to late! The fire and Brimstone/Carrie & the Cross piece seems like it was made to go with the Prayers case, you have her small and meek praying to the giant crucifix on the front of the case then you open it up all hell has broken loose and she is running from a living crucifix! It would really has that before and after effect!

OK, thanks for the feedback and your thoughts on this. I'm going to be doing the prelim sketches for the shower scene over the next day or two and see what comes out and what works. I think it will be in oils as that was what I already had planned in my head for it. They are important scenes so it may take me a little longer to decide what to do as I want to get it right.

I've just sent number 19 to Dick so he'll get that up here soon.

Ken, Torment & Rage is oil and the clock is in paint pencils. I have to get some sleep right now as it is midnight and I'm completely zonked but I'll give a little more on your above comment tomorrow...

I got my Carrie case the other day. Mine was one of the four or five that was delayed. The artwork was a little thicker than the others and Dick had to rework the case a bit to make it fit. This one is by far my favorite in the series so far. According to Dick, Rachel painted this one on "Belgian Linen Panels" which looks like sort of a miniature canvas on a wood frame. Dick always does a fine job on these and Rachel really made these special. Thanks to both of you!

Hi Ken, you can buy it by the roll and DIY it any way you like, just as you would with regular canvas. Frame, board whatever you like! You have to staple or nail, stretch, glue, prep and prime it yourself this way of course.

Some places you can get it ready stretched and primed etc and on board as well but you would have to check over in the US if anyone has it and what it costs.
