Well I have finally covered my books and taken all of the pictures. So the next step is to upload my photos (thank you Eric for the helpful steps) - so in the next few days I should be posting a bunch of new pics - the only thing I can guarantee is that less than 5% will have King's signature...and the collection is extremely varied.

Is that complete farside the signed one?

Yes it is - I forgot to take a picture of that one (on slate for tomorrow) but I will put that up (as well as the signed/numbered print that came with the set). I had a copy of the unsigned version - but I moved that on to my friends kids for christmas this year - 2 volumes, 2 kids - figured they needed to start with something great

Jesus, that's a lot of stuff! I like what I'm seeing, but with everything so spread out, how do you keep track of what you have?

Jesus, that's a lot of stuff! I like what I'm seeing, but with everything so spread out, how do you keep track of what you have?

Keep track of stuff??? The book shelves are actually just in two rooms - our bedroom and the loft. So far my memory is pretty good - I have to keep track of most things in the house, like where is the 4 year old, where is the 24 year old...why is she calling me to meet her at a gas station, all those things. Plus I think by taking the photos today and posting them here that will help me remember where things are (wait until you see the mess that is my son's room - good thing about having a boy - I was able to make my sports shrine - and put it in his room).

cit74
01-18-2013, 10:43 PM
I only took pics of the signed books and some of the more unique items - so don't worry I will try not to inundate everyone with photos - but I like my camera...if you see something on the shelf and want a better pic (if it hasn't been taken already) I will gladly snap a few shots and post them - I think next on my list is some sort of spreadsheet

DON'T DO A SPREADSHEET! I started cataloging just my collection, and now I am cataloging every King item known to man. It's a slippery slope!

lol, what are your three favorite King items and your three favorite non-King items? And why?

DON'T DO A SPREADSHEET! I started cataloging just my collection, and now I am cataloging every King item known to man. It's a slippery slope!

lol, what are your three favorite King items and your three favorite non-King items? And why?

hhmm...3 favorite king items - I do not have much so there is not a lot to choose from:
1) Postscripts #10 - I just like the fact of having him and his son together in the same book, signed on the same page
2) Shining s/l - I know I do not have it yet - but this will be the first stand alone king book that I will own (or at least pay for in a week) - and maybe see in a year...
3) this is an eventuality - a signed copy of The Stand - my all time favorite king book - so this will be a goal of mine

Non-king Items:
Now this is much tougher since there a lot more to choose from...and you will have to wait to see these pics - since I think I will do one "group" each day
3) Philly sports items (I know this is three)
a) signed book by Bernie Parent (only goalie to lead the flyers to a stanley cup-twice) - inscribed to my son
b) signed game day ticket of the perfect game that Roy "Doc" Halladay threw
c) signed baseball from Cole Hamels - the day my son and I went to a Phillies-Giants game
2) Obviously something from Neil Gaiman (the largest part of my collection)- so this would have to be Coraline signed and numbered hobby market HC (limited to 4000 books and only about 170 signed and numbered); although a close second would be Olympus - Miracleman Book #3 - HC - pristine, still in shrink wrap - I doubt there are many like this around - for that matter the whole HC series of Miracleman (including French version of Book 1)
1) Ralph McQuarrie - signed the art of Star Wars HC - for Celebration Japan - text in Japanese of course (only 100 printed)

oh and the next group will be my Neil Gaiman books and related items (probably my largest amount)...and the saga of Miracleman which got me into this whole mess anyway. As for organizing - gotta work with what I have. So once its read - it usually gets moved to a new place to make room for new books. Until of course my wife gets her wish and we move into a new custom home - in that case I have been promised a wine cellar/reading room (I have it all planned out it should be great - although not as expansive as Gaiman's home library - I've seen photos of that - it is humongous - looks like a true library or book store). Since for now our wine (we only live 35 minutes from Napa - so after 12 years here grown accustomed to the local flavor) - is in a make-shift cellar under the stairs - if Harry Potter lived here he'd be drunk for weeks by now. As for organization (again) - I do try and keep all of the authors books together - so that is a start

Wow - I guess one more reason to enjoy my iCrack - I can still post my photos while my wife is busy working on the computer (although I can't upload any more right now)

If you are using photobucket to upload your pictures, and assuming you have an iphone or ipad, you can actually do it all from your device. Download the photobucket app and either upload pictures via the app or take pictures directly from the app. Then you can see the links that can be pasted into the forum (the [img] coded one) and voila, taking, uploading, and posting without having to touch you computer.

I saw all those absolute and oversized comic book collections and had to do a double take - I thought I was looking at my collection for a second. I saw Swamp Thing HCs, all Sandman books, Hellboy, Alan Moore, Preacher, The Walking Dead etc. So yeah.. I like what I'm seeing.

Are you getting the annotated Sandman books? I'm on the fence. It's like first seeing a great magic trick and then seeing how it's done. Sometimes it's better not knowing.

Yes - the fender guitar will have a better picture once all of the books are posted - kind of a teaser in the background. The lead singer for papa roach (jacoby shaddix) is from Vacaville (where we live now) and he sand at a charity event last year - and signed a few guitars - this one was inscribed to my son Caleb.

I just enjoy the oversized absolute sandman edition (plus I have 2-3 books annotating the whole series) so I doubt I will get any of the annotated series (not inclined for another money-grab). The original paperbacks are stowed away in one of the bookshelves - those will be the ones Caleb gets to read first.

I've never read any Sandman ... I take it you recommend it? lol

01-20-2013, 12:33 AM
So here is the start to the gaiman books - which actually began by reading Watchmen by Alan Moore, and reading most of his works. From there I read the short lived warrior magazine (I have 2 full print runs of all 26 magazines - not pictured - the start of marvelman), as well as the only individual comics that I own - being the miracleman series (24 issues, never completely finished - again 2 full copies of the entire run). Alan Moore wrote the first 16 issues and gaiman took over from 17-24. Needless to say this is a great story and the true back story and legal issues are just as compelling. If anyone is really interested in the story - I'd be happy to sell one of my complete miracleman collections (just pm me). Long story short - onto the pics and where my collection really began. Here are the trades:

http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll123/chadtarter/Gaiman/Books108_zps428cf33a.jpg

And here is my prize - book 3 - Olympus still in shrink wrap

http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll123/chadtarter/Gaiman/Books109_zps5c95ad31.jpg

Sorry for the blurry pic - I think the issue with this one is hill house went under during this time and there were just a bunch of books left sitting around in limbo - they had no idea where the numbering left off and so they had just sold them un-numbered

I like the pics! OK, describe Sandman to me in one sentence or less ...

A story that details the intertwining of humanity and the fates (called the endless by Gaiman: dream, death, destiny, destruction, desire, despair, and delirium - who was once delight) and their involvement on all planes of existence. I think that is the best I can do in a single sentence.

Now by order - do you mean order to the various fates? Now if I were able to use a couple more sentences - the the sandman series mainly deals with Dream (hence the title sandman) but his brothers and sisters (the other fates, especially death) do have their involvement in the various story lines.

OK, now I wanna read it. There is an "order", right?

The main Sandman storyline was 75 issues. They were reprinted in the following books:

Preludes and Nocturnes (collecting The Sandman #1–8 )
The Doll's House (collecting The Sandman #9–16)
Dream Country (collecting The Sandman #17–20)
Season of Mists (collecting The Sandman #21–28 )
A Game of You (collecting The Sandman #32–37)
Fables and Reflections (collecting The Sandman #29–31, 38–40, 50; Sandman Special #1; and Vertigo Preview #1)
Brief Lives (collecting The Sandman #41–49)
Worlds' End (collecting The Sandman #51–56)
The Kindly Ones (collecting The Sandman #57–69 and Vertigo Jam #1)
The Wake (collecting The Sandman #70–75)

The order to read the whole story in, not just one character. For example, if you were to ask me where to start watching Doctor Who, I would say start with the first season of the new series in 2005, with the Ninth Doctor, watch it until current day, and then go back and start the original 1963 series. :)

This one is pretty easy - just start with book one. But I've got Shannon covered - I will be bringing my trade books with me on a short trip to vegas in a few weeks - so he can get a taste of the Sandman - and take all the time he needs to read through them

To carry on the Star Wars theme just a little bit longer...a funny little story - I went back home last winter (jan 2012) - to visit my family and friends and mainly to go to the winter classic in Philadelphia - and help my parents clean out their basement. Why would I clean their house? I always said there was a box of my old Star Wars figures from the 70s/80s somewhere in that basement (my parents said they couldn't find it). Well after about 5 separate trips to good will - did you know they'll take anything - even those old computer printers and monitors (plus you don't have to pay an electronic recycling fee - my dad had 5 of those monitors) - long story short - we found the box under the stairs - and there was a ton of figures, ships, etc, all original and in great shape - so we shipped them out to California and my son has some great vintage Star Wars toys.

And I really like Katie cooks artwork - it's fun

They actually have them up on eBay - through the arnes and noble eBay store - the signed edition with picture for $795

Not sure if that URL link will work (first time I tried to add one) - I lucked out and got it back in may for $400, another sold in December for $475 - so they occasionally come up on eBay. If you happen to get a good Barnes and noble coupon you could get it directly from their website too

You also reminded me that I have a letter and signed piece from McQuarrie around here somewhere, if I can just remember where I put it!

Now to resist the urge to buy the Farside and Bloom County collections... (at least for a little while)

Nice.
At some point in high school I had sent a piece to him to have it signed. It got lost in the mail and one day about 5 or 6 years later I got the SASE back in the mail with a note from him commenting on how long it had taken to arrive. The way I see it, the USPS' screw up got me a personalized note and an extra signature, so I can forgive the years long wait.

Nothing that I have seen. But I am pretty sure that the rise of the governor s/l came out the same time as the regular HC version; and there was nothing like this when road to woodbury was released. Guess they were tired of the quick money grab

Plus you can still get the rise of the governor HC for $25 off cover price a year later - I am guessing that it did not sell to well (or they made a ton of them - and cannot clear their inventory) - so maybe another reason no s/l road to woodbury

it has been a little while and I meant to post some odds n ends. I just got a bunch of new books over the past two weeks and I plan on taking pics later today (after I get some study time in) and post them all. Several new additions that I was really excited about (thanks Tim). Anyway - here are some sports related collectibles. I am originally from Philly and went to Penn State (for nearly a quarter of my life...8 years), hence the theme. Also it is nice having a son - since it was a lot easier for me to "decorate" his room. Eventually all of these will find their way into my ever growing wine/book/sports cellar - in this fantastic custom home in my mind right now...just counting the years now...oh well

Sorry, as the penultimate "Yankee Fan" I just can't help myself!!!! LOL LOL LOL

thats perfectly alright - the first baseball games that I went to were Yankees games - actually the first series was yankees vs royals in the 80s - those mattingly years - back when the yankees were not that good and the royals were (I think it was a very high scoring series). My uncle lived in NY and took me to ball games - so actually I was a pretty big Yankees fan (for the american league) and mostly a mattingly fan - but in the late 90s I gravitated away from them and back to my home town club.

here's your trivia question of the day - who are the ONLY 2 pitchers to have thrown a no-hitter in the post-season...hint - look at the above pictures
Don Larsen perfect game above and my guy Roy Halladay - in his first post-season game against the reds in 2010

Here is one of those mis-bound 20th Century Ghosts. I think there were 50 of these - they all included the extra bonus material that was included in the first 200 copies/slip cased. Some of these were numbered as f-con editions, but still part of the 500 HC copies run.

Actually no - that was from my wife, when they went back to visit her parents in Iowa a few months ago. I was using that picture to enter a contest - and had to try and make sure the link work - so it was just a trial run - but I still like the photo. If you're a photographer out there - check out the capture clip v2 from peak designs on kickstarter - still 36 days to go and they're funded w over 300k already.

And I had to show my disapproval although on the inside I had to keep myself from laughing - as the 5 year old was playing soccer on the ice - and away from the ball dropped his gloves and went at it with one of his "friends" and landed himself in the penalty box - seriously - I've never seen any other kids go in the box in the free skate lessons....
