Okay, enough lurking in the background - time to start a little thread of my own on this most illustrious forum.

Welcome to the start of my little collection of odds and ends (primarily, I collect Stephen King books, art and ephemera).

As you may gather, moving forward, I tend to have a Pennywise theme happening (my avatar is a Glenn Chadboure original and the opening thread picture being a limited edition marionette).

I'll start with some general views of my reading room (detail and individual books will come a little later on down the track).

Please, enjoy :)

A few of the awesome Dolso cases that I'm fortunate enough to have in my collection.

Some more Dolso awesomeness (and a peek at some of the ARC's and SK UK 1st Editions)

A different view, including some of the SK related art and ephemera littering my room.

Some more Dolso goodness, a head shot of Big Penny (and an oil painting of same)

Scarey! But in a good way. One question, is that Colorado Kid one of the 33 numbered copies in a RED slipcase? Are the three slipcases different colors? I'm asking because the one I have is green.

You have a lot of great items there.

Nice collection indeed.

I also do the slipcases "backwards" if the slipcase has printing on it. Just another way to keep the light off of the spines if you can.

Wonderful collection! I'm glad to see some love for UK editions and proofs, too.

Well, being an antipodean, I'm honour bound to include the UK 1sts in my collection (and, as you know, some of the earlier editions are significantly scarcer than their US counterparts). As regards the proofs, I have a scattering, however; these were acquired (for the most part) by accident rather than design) :)

Thanks Ric :) - As regards displaying limiteds, my personal preference is to have slip cases with printed spines with the case spine facing outward, others prefer the uniformity of having the book spine facing out, irrespective of whether the case spine is printed or not. This said, I don't think there's a wrong way or a right way, just whatever appeals to the individual collector.

The tray cased copy of The Colorado Kid is a Publishers Copy (seems that PS Publishing produced more of these than there were of the actual numbered copies) of the 33 run.

I got an okay deal on it at the time (I wasn't that eager to add it to the collection) but the combination of Stephen King's signature and Glenn Chadbourne's art (I'm quite the fan) swayed me :)

Oh, and yep, each of the artists had a different coloured tray case.

Hey Shannon - Have been a rabid collector (my better half would probably lean more towards the term "hoarder") of Stephen Kings work (and associated bits and pieces) for maybe 10 years or so - I've enjoyed his work from the very beginning, when I purchased a paperback copy of Carrie because I was still too young to purchase a movie ticket to see the movie when it first came out. It's only been the last ten years though where I've been able to indulge in my collection (partly because of finances, mostly because Australia isn't exactly a treasure trove of limited editions) :)

Alas, I do not have an artistic bone in my entire body  A slice of personal trivia, I was put back a year in school (from 1st class to kindergarten) because I failed "Colouring Between The Lines" and "Stick Figures 101". Despite having to do this twice, I still have the artistic skills set (or creative talent, such as the guys that made the Pennywise items I have, or, of course, Mr Olson and his awesome cases!!!) of your average squirrel :frown2:

Well, all I wanted, originally, was a mask (read as ONE mask) to sit atop my full size Pennywise (see Page 1 posts) ... Well one mask became three (the one in the middle is a filled latex "brain burst" bust) which I now swap around every so often to alleviate the boredom (mine mainly) For someone that spent their entire childhood in deathly fear of clowns (and everything else circus related) I'm obviously well over it (and probably overcompensating for it) during my middle age

Are they "Actual" Movie related masks made for the production? Or did you commission them somehow. You know, with collector's a is in the "story" behind the item!!!!

The masks were made by a guy in Melbourne, Australa (who disappeared off the radar several months ago) - he kept coming up with Pennywise variations, and I kept adding the little buggers to the collection. They're not "special" in any way, as they weren't commissioned specifically by me, nor were they in any way related to the TV production (although I do have a little item in the room that was a prop for The Stand miniseries, which I'll post this evening when I get home from work - it's gross to look at, but pretty cool due to its provinence) :scared:

So, they're "special" like Herbert Brandmeier's Nebel illustrations (see below) or "special" in another way ??? :emot-roflolmao:

No, seriously, as far as I know, the guy that did these did it only for a hobby, and I believe that he may have even plagurised at least one of the designs (which is a shame). The only one that I've not seen replicated is the attempt he had at a Tim Curry "Pennywise" which looks totally dorky, but funnily enough is the one that I'm most fond of) .

Todays post mixes Stephen King, related ephemera and Glenn Chadbourne into a tasty little mix :D

All up, I've three Glenn Chadbourne remarqued copies of Cemetery Dance's most excellent Shivers VI, an anthology containing "The Crate".

http://imageshack.us/a/img214/4033/shivervi1b.jpg

The Crate Beast I found on eBay a couple of years back.

http://imageshack.us/a/img687/8189/shiversvi2.jpg

This remarque (and the favourite of the three that I have) was won via auction right here on TDT.org. So far as I know, it still remains a "one off" piece.

http://imageshack.us/a/img69/8896/shiversvi3.jpg

Cemetery Dance later offered both colour and remarqued copies (again by Glenn Chadbourne) so, having absolutely no impulse control to speak of, I obtained once of each

I really love Erin Wells' pencil work. McVey's Pennywise is great as well but from the moment Alan (Mr. Rabbit Trick) claimed that it was his 'spitting image' I can't seem to uncouple the two in my head and I always think of him first when I see that illustration.

I'm looking forward to seeing detailed pics of the rest of your wonderful collection!

Amongst the collection I have only a few foreign language editions (a grant total of four)

I posted the German bootleg edition of Nebel (The Mist) earlier on in the thread - the next being the German bootleg limited edition of It (Es)

Amazing... love the Alex MvVey & Erin Wells Remarques....
and the drawing from Amanda is AMAZING !!!

And of cause.... ES EDITION Phantasia IS beautiful...

Here is the ´NO bootleg Story:biggrin:

In 1986 Edition Phantasia published a limited edition of 500 + 30 Roman Nr. Der NEBEL Stephen King's short story The Mist . This was preceded by a closed License Agreement between the German rights holder, Heyne, and Edition Phantasia/Mr. Körber.
Mr. Körber is the owner of Edition Phantasia he was for a long time the translator for all Stephen King Books.
Stephen King/management subsequently not recognizes this contract, although a part of the books (50?) where sold. The rest get destroyed.
In the same year ES Edition Phantasia was published ( It) limited to 250 copies + 30 Roman nr. This book was the Worldfirstedition!!!

After the ´problems´ with NEBEL, the next Stephen King book project from Edition Phantasia was canseled Die Augen des Drachen-Eyes of the Dragon, but the paintings for the book from Johann Peterka are finished. Edition Phantasia decided to publish the 13 paintings as limited signed portfolio. Die Augen Des Drachen Portfolio / Eyes of the Dragon Portfolio German Edition Phantasia signed limited 100.

Brice

Is it possible SK's management doesn't recognize the contract because they didn't authorize/ were left unaware of any contract between Heyne and Edition Phantasia? I'm just thinking if that's the casse it might explain both viewpoints.

Bad Penny: That Wells/McVey remarqued IT is fantastic. :)

Yes, and of cause SK's management and publishers really don´t like that
the German Edition Phantasia ES is the Worldfirstedition.

...but there have been other foreign language editions that were the world's first edition, haven't there? I really think the problem might be that someone neglected to ask/consult King's US people/publisher. Meaning maybe Heyne was authorized to publish on their behalf and authorized EP to publish on their behalf, but Heyne might not have had that authority and when they found out it was an issue they just kept it to themselves that there was an agreement rather than piss off King's people themselves. Just let them think it was never authorized. Of course this is all just speculation on my part, but it kinda' makes sense. That way it could both be authorized AND bootleg at the same time.

Sorry Bad Penny, I didn't intend to hijack your thread. I'll stop.

Without doubt, this is one of the most treasured items in the collection, for a whole bunch of reasons:

a) another spectacular example of Dick Olson's (Dolso) work;
b) art by Glenn Chadbourne, Alex McVey (and Julian McVey), Erin Wells and Jill Bauman;
c) auction proceeds benefited the Haven Foundation.

I know that Merlin 1958 "Bill" invested a lot of himself into this item - so kudos to you, too, mate

So you did "land" it!! I thought so, but wasn't sure!!!! Great Item!!!! Yes I was very "invested" in this one, but it really was a "team" effort. Dick, Jerome, all the artists and I think AKC (?) donated the book. I just coordinated everything, tracked it and kept the artists advised. To their credit they were exceptionally cooperative and eager to help!!!

So glad it went to a good home!!! Plus, Dick just knocks the case outta the park!!!!!

Of the grand total of four foreign editions of Stephen King's works I have in the collection, this is # 3.

I have it (Heyne HC Edition of It, printed in 1990) primarily because of the rather ... oddly interesting ... imagining of Pennywise portrayed on the opening endpaper

My 4th (and final) foreign edition. this one being a 1979 French (Editions Alta) copy of The Shining.

This was shipped to me in error some time ago, and although it's not my "usual" thing in terms of my collection, I do like the glassine wrapper it came in (which is why the cover art looks a little subdued) :)

Although it likely looks like I have three of these cases, there's only the two (one houses the US Limited - with the real signature, the other the UK Limited - with the facsimile signature, the other one displayed, but currently housed elsewhere in the collection, is a flat signed US 1st edition) .

Actually, the price of the coin (s) I believe is figured into the cost of the case which, I believe goes for $115-135 depending on the amount of coins requested (1, 2 or 3) Believe it or not the coins cost about $10 each!!!!

My final posting (for now, at least) of the fine work of Dick Olson, this being the very first of Dolso's cases that ever found its way to my collection (before I even know who Dick was).

This case was part of a deal I made on the UTD Limited Edition (of 1,500) with the Matthew Diffee cards :)

I'm a huge fan or remarques and/or "art in books", and have a small collection of these that I'm quite proud of.

The first set is these four copies of Subterranean Press' Stephen King Goes To The Movies, featuring art by Vincent Chong.

Although I'm sure no one here really needs a guide as to what the remarques depict, I'll do it anyway

Ahhhh, so it's you! I saw those a long time ago on the website. Great remarques! :) Also, a great book! Beautiful.

They were acquired via Analecta Books in the UK (Steve Sargent gets some great stuff, particularly remarqued stuff, although he also deals with SF and fantasy). Some of the SKGTTM remarques had been sitting on shelf for a while, so I circled for a time, kept an eye on them, then swooped on them when it seemed no one else was interested - then again, I have no impulse control, so it was a matter of when rather than if

They're beautiful, but addictive - I started with one itty bitty remarque, more out of curiousity than anything else, and it swiftly became a semi-obsession (which is a good thing, well, at least it is until the credit card bill comes in at the end of the month )

I had one of those too, very cool. Now sgc1999 has most of my remarqued stuff, lol. I didn't like that the artists most of the time drew the same thing over and over again, but if you can find a set with some different images and/or at least unique interpretations of the same images, then you're golden.

I set one up for the Fundraiser (AKC donated the book and I got it remarqued) then ended up buying it back!!! I talked to her on the phone at length to try to get something different, but her art requires an interpretive process that made it non-feasible. Each artist has their own "process" I've come to learn.

Nice set, Bad penny. I finally gave up on the 3rd "Potter" remarque to complete my set and just went with a Potter S/L!!! Way to persevere!!!

Absolutely Ben, although I do wish that the Blaine were a remarque, or even better, the original art piece - instead of just a photo of one of the many pieces of Glenn's art contained within the book :)

LOL! I thought it was very "glossy", bright, and filled the whole page but I figured Glenn really hooked a brother up.

Man, don't I wish !!! Having said that, after I'm done posting my current remarque collection to the thread, I can then maybe start on the art collection - I've got a bunch of original art pieces, with more than a few being Glenn's

First, the Limited Editions (both by Glenn Chadbourne) :)

For me, it's just that I like her art a lot. I just wish there was more of it. More variety. I'd like to say I see why she doesn't do more from a story, but I guess I just really don't. If I were better at drawing I'd want to illustrate as many scenes from the stories as I could.

I do like those...especially the last one. :)

Thanks guys, I have a bunch of other remarques to post (non Stephen King - for the moment, anyways) ...

Question, probably for the mods - I have some Hard Gore Press (Graham Masterton, Guy N Smith, et al) remarques that are maybe a little questionable, taste wise - some of them do feature nudity.

What's the criteria for posting "Adult" content?

An example is this remarqued (by Rick Melton) Limited Edition of Masterton's "Grease Monkey and Other Tales of Erotic Horror" (this is one of the tamest)

In our FAQ's #7 says "(A) Sexually explicit images containing nudity are not permitted to be posted on the site at any time. Whereas (B) suggestive imagery is permissible if posted in an applicable thread, such threads must be clearly marked as NSFW (not safe for work) in the topic’s title. (C.)Suggestive images of any kind are not allowed to be used as avatars or in member signatures. Violation of this guideline will result in the removal of the image, and the posting member will be warned. Repeated violation may result in further behavioral action."
Although the definition of "explicit" is in the eye of the beholder (and thus the management here), I don't see any issue with the example you posted. My suggestion is that if you wonder, then use the Spoiler tag. You can even use the "NSFW" title in the spoiler tag. Example:http://i1241.photobucket.com/albums/gg502/GrantWootton/Remarques%20and%20Interior%20Art/GM1.jpg
Certainly any image that would be considered "X rated" or is in fact illegal would be forbidden.

Okay, I knew that rule, but wouldn't have thought it applied to just a drawing. Everyone interprets rules differently though.
The way I interpret it is that nudity is not banned, but sexually explicit images are. A naked person would be fine, but a naked person performing a sex act probably would not be-whether it's a photo or a drawing.
When in doubt, using the NSFW spoiler tag gives readers the chance to "opt out" of the image popping up on their screen.

Bad Penny

Cool, thanks guys - and, best of all, none of the remarques I have appear to cross the lines indicated in the last couple of posts (however, will still use the NSFW tag for all of them when I post them .. starting later today .. just to be on the safe side) :D

We can see a picture with a stake through someone's eye and say ho-hum, but a picture of the sex act brings shudders to our spines. The human race sure is weird, pardner!

We don't need to discuss site policy too much in a person's thread, but I agree, people can watch evisceration, but not sex.
That being said, a general guideline is that "R" rated images are fine-photos, drawings etc. "X" rated images are not. We have no way of assuring that all members here are over 18 years of age.
Again, each member should decide whether or not to put a NSFW (Not Safe For Work) Spoiler tag on a post, but it probably is best to err on the side that is less likely to get a member that is at work-perhaps on their break time-in trouble. The staff will ultimately rule on any post that should not be allowed.

The last two images are certainly images that should be labeled NSFW/Spoliered. Please don't post anything more graphic than that.

No worries at all, that was the "worst" of them, the balance are quite tame, then it's back to decapitations, staking, eviseration, vampires, zombies, etc, et al (you know, the inoffensive stuff )

Okay, enough smutty remarques (for now) and back to more ... pedestrian ... offerings

Again out of MHB in the UK, Paul Kane's "Shadow Writer" (two separate Limited Editions, being # 109 and # 110).

I was also fortunate enough to score several pieces of original art by David Margitas.

Number 109 ...

Some great artwork there, Bad Penny! It's good to see the MHB Press books get some love - I don't own any of them but I have always found Greg Hurlstone to be a real gentleman to deal with when I purchased some of his King books.

Fortunately, the chair and two others came gratis - the chair has been framed and sits on the wall of my partners art room (seriously, the freaking thing doesn't even have teeth - what harm can it do!!!!!) :wtf:

Another Glenn Chadbourne remarque, this time in a Limited Edition (Number 3 of 100, or 166 of 1,000 - depending on which limitation page you're looking at - the screenplay itself was a limited edition of 1,000, the bound and signed copy a limited edition of 100) of John Russo's "Night of the Living Dead" screenplay.

Note - you'll likely require a language translator for the inscription, which I was able to choose myself

For those that can't be arsed running a translator on the inscription ...

None of it offended me, and if I didn't own the site and have to be worried about the U.S. gov getting involved because a 13 year old should not be allowed to see the images (the Gov not me saying that) I wouldn't quibble.
BTAIM, thanks for the NSFW spoiler-some members here do have to be concerned about a co-working peering over their shoulder and then complaining.
