WELCOME TO THE CLUB

Since last update, three new numbers have been added to the owners’ list. Fellow TDT member, BigCoffinHunter added #194 which was purchased at Waterstones. Ebay buyer thecardden opened his sealed book and added #124 to the list. The third new number was the elusive #19, which belongs to a The Collector Forum member from Waddington, Lincoln, UK by the name of thegwar. These additions place the total book count now at 122. The owner of #6, which you can see the limitation page at The Collector website, is still a mystery.

Sorry becca69....

Will give the details first, found out when I had another look at my number 161 that there was a cut to one of the pages, contacted Hodder who after some amazing help from somethere there they managed to swap it for me, as we know they are sold out everywhere, so Hodder contacted Stephen King's editor who agreed to let me have his copy which is number 4/200, this has just arrived now, I will put pics up at some point once im home from work if anyone wants to see. So can I be added to the list for number 4 also, and that number 161 has been sent back to Hodder.

Just a bit of evidence to support my theory that 1-10 were "cherry picked".

Yeah, I'd agree that it's unlikely that if they were ALL randomly distributed King's people probably wouldn't be likely to end up with low numbers.

Hi, I've been thinking about my uk TWTTK, and whereas I quite like it, it isn't one I'm too precious of keeping, happy for it on my shelf it's nice enough, butwould like to trade for a us signed limited from a Buick 8

Not sure is its comparable, but the last couple on the collector site states Buick sold at 400.

Mines 158. If anyone fancies a trade let me know, I'm uk based by the way.

Cheers, Dave

Interestingly when I was offered the replacement I was told that they thought it was number 4 but that it was def a low number 1-10, then when I got it today and opened it I found it was number 4. So I presume they must hold the low numbers back for individual people

Knowing the number is easy-the first 10 that are numbered (obviously 1-10) are set aside with a post it on the book noting the number.

Thanks RIC ... nice coincidence that he posted it today. I dropped him a note. Also a big huge thanks to John (Jhanic) who has the 186/700 and offered it to me ... you made my night!

If you look at eBay completed listings, there have been unsold copies at 650, 550, 500, 460, and 396. But one shows sold at 513.91. The retail was about US$240, so I think $350-400 is probably fair for those who didn't get one. That's just my opinion...with only 200 copies, it may be seen as fairly rare, but I think the initial furor is dying down.

There is a UK #56/200 listed on eBay. I asked the seller how did he know the number on a seal book, and his response is below. Has anyone else seen a tag on their book?

Hi, actually the book is still sealed. There is a tag on the outside of the wrapper that says 056 so I am assuming that is the number, perhaps not. I don't truly know and I don't want to mislead. This is a sealed never opened MINT copy of the limited one of 200 actual copies signed by Stephen King. The image that i used in the listing is a stock photo provided by the publisher. The actual book is stil sealed in the origninal wrapper with the barcode label attached. I hopr this helps.Best of luck if you elect to bid. I expect this will go quickly. Best Regards,

It would have been nice if they had put tags on the books.
You just don't get it. "They" had a person write a number in 200 books-likely the person with nice penmanship never received one of the books. The first books numbered 1-10 were immediately removed (set aside) for VIP's; they likely were not shrinkwrapped. The remaining 11-200 books were still carefully numbered (might be cool to compare the handwriting for all of the numbers??), but sent along the shrink wrap shipping process with little or no regard to the subsequent numbers.
At least the books were numbered.

WEEKLY UPDATE:

This thread was started couple weeks ago. Last week was productive with eight new numbers added. The new numbers for last week: #37, #45, #54, #60, #64, #90, #179, #188. Six out of ten, were below 100, I am not sure if there are any patterns. The mystery of the #1 -#10 has been solved, so I added those to the list. No numbers between #19 - #34 were added last week, so the big gap is still there. No new numbers so far this week, please open some seals and lets added a couple.

1- 100 ----- 48/200 -- 24%
100-200 --- 31/200 -- 16%
Unopen ---- 26/200 -- 13%
Total ------ 105/200 -- 52.5%

I was told their (Waterstone's) shipment was sent in two separate orders. The first contained yours. The second, which was to arrive a couple of days later, mine. Well, it didn't. So, Waterstone's London headquarters was contacted and to make a long story quite a bit shorter, the hunt was on for a (my!) lost copy.
Which finally was found a couple of days ago.

Weekly Update

Last week was slower than the past. There were seven additions, with four of them being numbered. The new numbers for last week: #116, #168, #198, #200. All were above 100, but we still have more numbers below 100 than above 100. If you don’t consider the first 10, then the number distribution is very close. The mystery of no numbers reported between #19 -#34 continues. No new numbers so far this week.

We have pretty good intel that supports the first 10 books (1-10) were not sold to the public. We cannot confirm who precisely owns the books except that #4 was given to King’s editor. It would be standard practice to give one to King, Jae Lee, H&S publisher, editors, designers, and others. Hopefully, we can find out more information, but the well is dry right now. Since we know where these 10 books are, I thinking we will credit them as found. I am open for dispute to doing so.

WEEKLY UPDATE

Last week only two new numbers were added. The new numbers for last week: #32 and #163. Due to the slow week, I had some time to clean up the list. I hope the list is a little more consistent and informative. I do need your help to keep it current. The sales of un-open books seem to pick up some last week. I hope we will have some new numbers coming from the sales. Let me know if you find errors. The mystery #19 -#34 continues for another week.

There was a report on another forum made by a thug named Lloyd (I cannot disclose the forum due to safety concerns). He reported his boss had 19 copies stored in a casino safety deposit box in Los Vegas. It has been reported that Lloyd was last seen driving off unto the desert with this unknown guy known only as Trash Can. I have tried to follow-up on this and it seems all related posts have been removed and Lloyd has seemed to vanish. I guess the mystery of the missing books #19 -#34 continues.

I'm REALLY confused on how a thread about a S/L edition that isn't really nice and doesn't have an intensive production has four pages and even a list on who owns it and who doesn't. I don't remember any other S/L edition despite the complete Dark Tower set to have a thread like this one with the list and, almost two months after its release, still being discussed.

Just that. It surprises me a lot! LOL

Randall Flagg

Don't be confused. I think it is a brilliant idea, and a great bit of enjoyment for the collective group to "track down" the numbers. I wish someone (other than the DT S/L's), had thought of it earlier, and that we had numerous group hunts.
Of course the book is not anything special, and the thread will likely become stale as the books change hands and keeping track of them becomes less important to the members here. I think of this as a bit like a scavenger hunt. Most of the SH's I have read about seem pointless and a waste of time, but others sure enjoy them, and I am enjoying this one.

I'd like that (even though I would be conspicuously absent from all such threads since I don't own any numbered or lettered King books at present).

I see three options:

1) We start creating threads for any collectible King book we're interested in in the regular Calvin's Corner forum (like the current UK WTTKH 1/200 thread).
2) Jerome creates a sub-forum for dedicated 'tally threads' for each collectible King book. Volunteers start a thread for the book(s) of their choice and take care of updating the first post containing the tally.
3) Tallies are posted in the existing discussion threads in the King Collectibles catalog.

I'd vote for option 2.

I agree. To me, it's the newness of the release coupled with the excitement of the hunt. Plus, the fact that it was only a #200 issuance makes it doable on a relatively small scale. I think I'd get tired pretty quick trying to follow or "find" 800 books.

I don't have any real desire to go backward and track down all the older S/L's, but for upcoming releases? Why not?

I am not inclined to create a sub-forum and then start to populate it. I think that going forward, if it happens organically, then it will. I thoroughly agree that doing 800 would be too much-but that is for the thread creator to decide.
Looking forward, I could easily see someone wanting to track lettered editions, but that may prove elusive as some collectors won't (as is their prerogative) reveal their letter/number.
The next two possibilities are Masques, and Battleground.

We have a thread for people who are looking for a specific number of generally all SK numbered books.

To me, the reason this thread is popular is because it relates specifically to a Dark Tower book. This is like a cousin to the thread for the DMG matiching number DT sets. While matching this book to your DMG set (complete or in progress) isn't required, it is fun to do when you can.

Other "cousins" might be lists of Who Owns what number of other non-DMG Dark Tower signed/numbered books...
- DT IV S/L UK W&G
- DT 1 S/L audiobook
- DT 2 S/L audiobook

Bastard cousins could include lists for numbered facsimile signature editions (Personally I have far less interest in those).

Just for the record, I was thinking along the lines of members posting the number/letter they have, not so much to hunt for owners/sellers outside the forum (which would be way too much work). But I realize that there's a different motivation underlying this thread, so please ignore my previous post :)

Sad to say that we lost one of our original members. Tony has been with us since the early days of our club (all the back to two months ago). He sold his second and last book which means he is no longer an official club member. Everyone please say good bye to Tony and wish him well is his future collecting… Bye Tony…

WEEKLY UPDATE

Last week turned out to be very productive with five new book owners. Unfortunately, all books are un-open at this time, so no new numbers were added. A very reliable source provided some additional information from a contact at the publishers concerning the first ten numbers. According to the source, 5 copies (presumably from #1 -#10 in some combination) were reserved for the author and his agent. We know that Dean ended up with #4, so that would leave 4 copies. I found this information to be interesting that King may have multiple copies. After more than nine weeks now, there is no additional news on the #19 - #31 mystery. Where are these books, someone may know, but it is not me…

1- 100 ----- 51/200 -- 25%
100-200 --- 39/200 -- 19%
Unopen ---- 29/200 -- 14%
Total ------ 119/200 -- 59%

Cook looking for 79/200
Greg looking for 157/200 (found shnnrc01)
George at C-Springs looking for 186/200 (found steveisking member of The Collector Forum)
Patrick looking for 196/200

The book(s) likely go to King's office (much like a warehouse), and King at his whimsey sends one out to whomever he wishes to-or to who Marsha says to.

WEELY UPDATE

Last week produced two new numbers: #21 & #112. Listing #21 was special in a way that it is the first book listed in the #20s. It also closed the mystery gap (#19 - #31)... a little anyway. There was some selling/buying activity with Merlin making a purchase and getting his name on the list. With Merlin on the list, who is the next big name collector missing? At this time, there is no additional information of the first ten books. Lastly, if you are interested in making this list, I can find only nine books that are publicly listed for sale starting at £300.00 ($470.00). This is the first drop below 10 books for sale that I can recall.

*** BOLD - NEW UPDATES ***

1- 100 ----- 52/200 -- 26%
100-200 --- 40/200 -- 20%
Unopen ---- 28/200 -- 14%
Total ------ 120/200 -- 60%

Cook looking for 79/200

I really never anticipated "stealing" it for that price!!! In fact "Sgc1999" said he was bidding and I vowed to "back-off" cause I figured it would go for a lot more. Just happily fell into my lap and I couldn't pay the seller fast enough!!!! LOL LOL

Well gentlemen this may sound strange to you, but I can't remember where this photo came from. I sometimes ask for photos of limitation pages and get multiple people submitting shots but I don't always keep the original emails. (I try to keep the inbox a manageable size) I looked back to around April/May, the only photo attachment I seemed to have kept is of #57. I'll keep digging around, maybe I can find a reply thanking the person for the photo or something. Given the now mysterious nature of numbers 1-10 maybe I should switch out to the #57 photo I managed to hang onto.. don't want to get folks too excited - then disappointed.

Had I known we were compiling the first ever list of who owns which number I would have paid more attention to who sent in what :(

Why switch it out? It appears to be legit. It will gather more interest than a #57.

New Update

Since last update, three new numbers have been added to the owners’ list. Fellow TDT member, BigCoffinHunter added #194 which was purchased at Waterstones. Ebay buyer thecardden opened his sealed book and added #124 to the list. The third new number was the elusive #19, which belongs to a The Collector Forum member from Waddington, Lincoln, UK by the name of thegwar. These additions place the total book count now at 122. The owner of #6, which you can see the limitation page at The Collector website, is still a mystery.
