If you are like me, you find that most SK collections have a few truly great stories, alot of very good ones, a few average, as well as a couple that were a waste of time to read. I was wondering what stories would make it into a collection edited by our members. So, Imagine you have 10 slots, no novellas, so they must be less than 100 pages each. Here are mine. I have never read Just after Sunset, so my list doesnt contain any from that book.
1. Children of the Corn
2. The Mangler
3. Survivor Type
4. Gramma
5. The Raft
6. The Ballad of the Flexible Bullet
7. Suffer the Little Children
8. The Man in the Black Suit
9. Lunch at the Gotham Cafe.
10. 1408
oh, what a wonderful thread! I think mine are:
1. All That You Love Will Be Carried Away
2. Popsy
3. The Ballad of the Flexible Bullet
4. Umney's Last Case
5. Lunch at the Gotham Cafe
6. The Boogeyman
7. Suffer the Little Children
8. Cain Rose Up
9. Crouch End
10. Night Surf

Yeah Brice, probably shoulda been 15 to twenty, but since it would be a book from everyones favorites maybe after we get some more replies we could compile a list of 15 - 20.
maybe we would have a better chance if we had more slots: so far there isn't a single story to be seen on every list

bump in the wake of Short Story Battle Royale (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/showthread.php?17222-Short-Story-Battle-Royale-FINAL-ROUND!&p=765283). I wish more people had participated, the result may have been quite different.

Huh, it's funny that I have Quitter's, Inc. in my list from last year, but I just voted for The Raft in the battle thread. I really like them both; I guess it's just what mood you catch me in.

"Lunch at the Gotham Cafe," "Children of the Corn," "N.," "1408," "The Death of Jack Hamilton," "The Gingerbread Girl," "Jerusalem's Lot," "Survivor Type," "Mute," "The Night Flier," and "The Man with the Black Suit? would be my "best of... SK's Short Fiction" book.
Maybe, if space allowed, including Mile 81 in there, too.
"Lunch at the Gotham Cafe,"
Yes!
