It's the end of the second 30-episode arc collectively known as The Gunslinger.

How many arcs are they planning? I note from another post that we have taken 5 years to get to here!

The original plan was one 30-issue arc. Then they extended it to a second 30-issue arc that ends with MAN IN BLACK, taking to the end of The Gunslinger. No word yet on anything beyond that. It seems to me that if they continue, they'll need an all-or-nothing plan, because if they start on Drawing of the Three, there's no turning back. Maybe they have something else cooking.

I think they should stop after this. As much as I've enjoyed the whole thing, I would rather see it end on a good note and mayhap do another adaptation from another King work.

The Man In Black = issues #21 - #25 so The Gunslinger is not 30 episode arc as Marvel planned at the begining.

Can anybody tell me when this gets released? My local shop doesn't seem to know and I can't go for an hour drive one way just to find out they don't have it in stock and won't know when.

I don't get these any more but that is a fine atmospheric picture!

Maleev's great but I'm a bit surprised they would change artists after having a fairly consistent look up until now.

Bev Vincent

They've had a different penciller for every arc of The Gunslinger series. Jae Lee left after the final issue of The Gunslinger Born/The Battle of Jericho Hill. Richard Isanove has done the coloring throughout.

I wasn't aware of that but from what I've seen the DT comics have had a consistent look even if they were different artists. Maleev's art is a lot darker and less cartoonish than the other ones and it sticks out IMO.

I mean, one cover from each arc:

Again, not a complaint as I think Maleev is easily the best artist to have worked on the Dark Tower comics period, just an observation.

At this point, I'm still reading DT books because I've been following them for so long but the quality has seriously dropped. That said, I'd like to see them cover everything. They're too far gone to just stop but that sort of thing happens in comics all the time.

I think they're stopping with The Man in Black miniseries.

I don't get it though, why build up the whole thing about Roland looking for the tower only to stop with him on the beach as the sun sets. Yeah it's been something like 5 years to get to this point. But it's just getting to the good part IMHO.

CyberGhostface

Well it was only intended to be a prequel.

Honestly at the rate they're going (25 issues for basically a short story and a novella, almost as much as the comic adaptation of The Stand) I think there's no way they'd be able to complete the series in its entirety. Of course I guess they could skip over most of W&G given The Gunslinger Born.

Tatts4Life

Yeah I guess when it comes to the point in the story when W&G happens they can tell TWTTK story since that has come out. Also if it was only ever intended to be a prequel then the should of stopped before they did the gunslinger arcs. Once they introduced Jake and the upcoming man in black story arc I would think that they pretty much committed themselves for the long haul.

I picked up #2 today.

The good: the book tells us more about the Gabrielle-Marten-Deschain Sr.+Jr dynamic.

The bad: the Tower doesn't control Roland's destiny, Flagg does. That's what Flagg says at least. Slow muties look more like Slow Monsters. I can look that part over but to me they always felt like deformed people, not monsters who looked like people.

Isn't that what they are supposed to be? I don't have the issue yet, but I am in the process of rereading the entire Dark Tower series and King's description of the Slow Mutants makes them sound like mutated people.

Yeah I all ways pictured them like the guy from the goonies. Picked up issue 1 and 2. Might wait until the last 3 come out before reading.

Yep, that's why I brought it up. They look more like monsters than mutated people in the comic.

I know that in the book some of them are described as having tentacles, etc, which seems a bit odd for mutated people. (Mind you, not as odd as some of the mutations you see in the Strontium Dog and Judge Dredd comics.)

I don't read the comics themselves, but I do read the trade books when they come out. Suppose I wanted to read "Man in Black" right now instead of waiting. Where would I get the first two issues? Comic stores never seem to carry any copies of books that came out a month or two ago.

That's pretty weird. They should have both issues of MIB. #2 came out yesterday and #1 last month. If you don't see #1 on the shelves, it's probably in 'back issues'. Just ask someone at the counter.

From reading Robins columns at the end it sounds like it. Kind of sucks that we don't get to see Roland drawing Eddie and odetta.
