Another five, this one's in my personal King Top Five.

there's no slot left in bears' top five, but it is definitely a 5. Well, with a tiny minus - because of the final part with all the fuss

Have recently been thinking about what path said - that this book seems to scream "it is work of fiction!!"
I tend to agree, but I do not find anything wrong about it. If anything, I tend to like this, more than the bland verisimilitude of 11/22/63

5...had one of those weird experiences while i was reading it....read this book at the same time that Mr King had his accident and the whole two incidents from both the book and real life happening at the same time just blew me away.

Reading now, it's a fun read, a 4 at the moment, which is what I voted.

Oh no Jean, here we disagree. I hated this one. It was my least favorite King until I read Lisey's Story.

How come? I thought it was brilliant.

Never cared for Insomnia too much. It had its moments, but overall...so-so.

It just bored me to pieces and I really struggled through reading the whole thing.

Yes.

(I refer to the Lisey's story part of Heather's post. I love Insomnia.)

See, I loved it. True, it was a little slow in places (betcha five bucks someone just exclaimed "IN PLACES?!" while reading that), but I really enjoyed it as a story that was more slow-burning than just slow. Couldn't say why, though. I think the differences between "Good and Evil" and "Purpose and Random", as well as the depression that Ralph goes through with his condition really appealed to me.

You're sure you're not ignoring the point that Heather was making about Insomnia and just making up your own point, Jean?

'Cause that's what I enjoy doing when someone thinks they disagree with me.

LOL!

Would never ignore any Heather's point, though... or anything else about her... even though she is so unfortunately mistaken about Insomnia...

Haha, well, it wouldn't be the first time she's disagreed with us on something we've both enjoyed.

Although, who knows, maybe I'll enjoy Lisey's Story if ever I get round to reading it. (Rest assured bears I will read both Under the Dome and Duma Key and many other King novels long before checking LS, though!) But Insomnia's definitely one I consider to be underrated (although thankfully, not quite as underrated as I thought, looking at the current poll).

4. It really liked the story once it finally got going. First half of the book was really slow.

Jean

LOL, just the opposite for bears! I really liked the story where it was really slow

I thought you were agreeing with me saying it was boring

And I am quite surprised by how well this one is doing. I thought there would be alot of averages. I'm going to have to check where this one fell in past years polls, I'm curious now.

Hmmm....
In 2009 in came in at #20, then in 2010 fell a few spots to #26.

If it does, it won't be because of my vote. I gave it a 1.

I own this one, but haven't gotten around to reading it yet. That being said...I am looking forward to it.

I liked this one a lot. My only issue was that when I felt like the story was concluded, and then it kept on... and then I thought it was over.... and it kept on.... then I thought it was over a third time... and it kept on. I ended up feeling like King stayed at the party too long. So it doesn't get a 5 from me.

I had to google "verisimilitude".

Jean

I am sorry, Robert, I am a foreigner and sometimes a word with a Latin root comes to mind quicker than a more frequently used English one

(which reminds me... I removed my flag during the Halloween masquerade, hoping to confuse people - not that I did confuse anyone, though. Time to put it back anyway.)

The poll has closed. Insomnia has earned a FAS (final average score) of 4.076923077 or 81.54%, placing 3rd in this bracket. It will not be moving on to Round 2.

It's really unfortunate that Insomnia received some 2s and 1s, causing it to yield the runner-up position to Nightmares & Dreamscapes, and due to its low score also missing out on one of the six wildcard spots for promotion to the second round.
