Thought about a 5. But had to go with a 4 because of the ending. It seemed as if King grew tired of the story, and slapped an ending on it just to be done with it. I guess it was just such a stark difference from the rest of the novel that it seemed almost cartoonish at the end. I would have preferred a more subtle endind that left you wondering if another town lie in wait. This is one I've been thinking about rereading for sometime, and am looking forward to.

I've only read it once and honestly don't recall a lot of the particulars. What I *do* remember was a great story idea and a great maybe first half of the novel. Then something happened where King took it in a direction I thought was a letdown. Like I said, I don't recall the particulars, just the impression that "this could have been so much better..." So I voted 3. Maybe in a couple of years I'll have read it again and might see it in a little more positive light.

But since the question was whether I loved the book - not whether I found it flawless - I gave it a 5 anyway.

I think it was more a matter of contrivance: not that King grew tired of it, but that he was welding in elements he had pre- decided on for reasons not organic to the story. Y'know?
Still, a good book. One of the most memorable from what was really kind of a weak period with the author.

I read maybe the first quarter of this book at most, then got distracted and haven't gone back to it. Voting, "Never Read."
