And I'm glad I read this one prior to reading Dt or I may not have appreciated it as much. I feel like it set me up for the awesomeness that is DT. :)

I gave it a 2, and I was being generous. What a slog. I've actually read it twice (not sure why I do that to myself--to convince myself that maybe it wasn't all that bad?).

As with most all of King I liked (most of) the characters, but some story elements really rubbed me the wrong way. Part of it might be that I just haven't been able to get into Straub. I've read Ghost Story, Floating Dragon, Koko, and possibly a couple of others and they were passable but nothing I'd re-read or recommend.

Thank goodness for Black House, which is an excellent 5.

A 4? You had me thinking you didn't like this one for some reason. Maybe just because you said you didn't care for it as much as Black House.

3. Some parts I absolutely loved, especially the Sunlight Home. A lot of it though was incredibly slow and difficult to read at times. Took me a long time to finish.

Now Black House, now that's a different story altogether!

I am not crazy about it, I was bored out of my mind by the last quarter or so, but I loved the Sunlight Gardener's School part, and I adore Wolf.

5. You can't name your son after the main character of a book and not give that book a 5, right?

edit: I'm right with you on Wolf, Jean. I fucking love Wolf.

Maybe I need to reread this one, because everyone seems to love it. I liked a few parts, the aforementioned Sunlight Gardner bit, as well as Jacks time at the Oatley tap, and Wolf is one of King's greatest characters. Most of the novel, however, drug on and on for me, and I had a difficult time finishing it. I felt robbed at the end, which is not an uncommon feeling for me.

I also loved Black House and intend to give it a 5.

When I first read BLACK HOUSE, the focus on killing small children was hitting a little too close to home for me as a new parent. If I had read it a few years earlier, my overall reaction to the book might have been more positive because there was a lot of the story that I really liked.
