View Full Version : 2012 Fundraiser Benefiting The Haven foundation

The 2012 Fundraiser benefiting The Haven Foundation kicks off immediately and will run through May 19, 2012.

We are streamlining this year’s event to make it easier to manage and hopefully increase the donation total.
Several book dealers have already committed to donating things that will either be used as giveaways, or auctioned off-we are hoping for more once this official announcement is posted.

100% of the net proceeds from all cash, check, Paypal gift donations and Ebay auctions will be forwarded to The Haven Foundation. (Ebay ad insertion, commission and shipping fees are the only expenses that will be paid from the Gross proceeds).

Every person who donates $10 or more, or donates an item used for auction or giveaway will receive one entry into our giveaway*. Items for the giveaway have yet to be finalized, but rest assured they will be really exciting and cool! Please use the donation "widget" that is atop each forum page.

Paypal donations must be noted as a “Gift” so that Paypal does not take a commission.
The Paypal address is Zoidsmith@aol.com.

Checks must be made out to Jerome Smith (Please don’t make them out to The Haven Foundation as I will have to forward them and they won’t count towards our fund-raising total) and mailed to:

Oh, I hear from a little bird that there will be more than a few "Juicy" items!!!! Starting with this:

Nice item, huh?

Just to "tease" everyone a bit. We have some wonderful things coming up for auction-including, a true "one of a kind" Stephen King signed surprise. This will knock your socks off.
We also have lined up some very cool items to be used in our raffle. To be eligible for the raffle all you need to do is donate $10 (or more) to the cause. For every $10 donation (capped at 10 entries) a person gets an entry into the grand prize drawing.
I can't tell you (yet), what this year's Grand Prize will be, but last year's prize was phenomenal. Stephen King PERSONALIZED a Gift edition of Full Dark, No Stars that had TWO pieces of Glenn Chadbourne art drawn in the book. It's the only one in the world.

Here is a pic of the personalization King did in the book:

Just to clarify...if I want to earn 10 entries into the raffle, I can donate $100 at one time. I don't have to donate $10 each 10 separate times, right?

Correct. Ten $10 donations = Ten entries.
One $100 donation = Ten entries.
One $1,000 donation = (thanks so much) Ten entries.

Are entries eligible if a member from this site wins one of the eBay Foundation auctions i.e. example $500 auction = 10 entries? Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere.

No. The presumption is that by winning the auction, you receive something valued at the price you paid.

Just to pique your interest, we are having 3 renowned artists doing a piece in a first edition of Everything's Eventual. Each piece is based upon the artists choice of a story they wanted to illustrate . The book comes with a custom1/1 case, and will have a 1/1 original art affixed to the inner lid. That's FOUR original pieces for one book!
Intrigued?

Take a book like "Everything's eventual". Have four artists do an original piece in the book based upon the story of their choice. Build a custom case for the book, have one of the artists do an original piece to affix to the inside of the lid (now there are 5 pieces). Choose Alex McVey, Erin Wells, Glenn Chadbourne and Jill Bauman as the artists....

I just received word that King will once gain inscribe a book to our Grand Prize winner. Remember, to be eligible for the drawing you must donate $10 to our fundraiser. For very $10 donation you receive one entry. The maximum amount of entries is capped at 10 per person (although feel free to donate more than $100).
Stay tuned for the announcement of which actual book we will be sending to King!
Any suggestions as to what would be a cool book?

Rachel Readman has graciously agreed to donate a truly one of a kind item. I will be putting it up for auction very soon.
The Constant Reader Sculpture.
Here are some of the details:
I decided what I'm going to do is offer the sculpture as lettered HF but I'm also going to add (if the buyer wants it) another plank of wood nailed to the door with their name on it (or another word or words of their choice if they prefer) so long as it will fit as I am limited on size. I will sort this out with the eventual auction winner when the time comes. Due to this the sculpture will not be finished and shipped until a while after the auction, maybe about 2 weeks or so. The sculptures are technically all one off pieces because they are individually hand painted but I think this it will make it much more personal, completely unique and should be worth a lot more money for the Haven Fund!

As with previous sculptures it will come with the hot foil embossed, white satin lined presentation case and a signed COA that will again be unique to this sculpture as it will include details of the Haven Foundation contribution etc.

There's also the info on my website that you can pick out details from to put on the auction about the sculpture and a bit about me, if you need them. The only difference is that this one is hand painted where on my site I have said only silver or bronze available and of course this is not one of the original 19 or the 250 total:

Just an observation, but it's kinda cool that so many artist's have done so many pieces on The Haven Funds behalf. Of course the Fund benefits artists and writers etc., but still............... I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say you're a "glass half empty" kinda guy!!!! LOL

This just means you're gonna have to "step up" so more next year!!!! LOL Seriously, with the kinda folks we have on this site, topping this years total will be a breeze!!! Everyone should stop and congratulate themselves for a job well done!!!!

Here are a few teasers. The Blockade Billy art was done in the Scribner edition that also contains King's story "Morality". The Randall Flagg is done in a 1st edition of "The Stand Uncut".

There's still $45 coming from me, I waited until James received my proof! I'll PayPal it today. So that makes $155 instead of $200 to get to $10,000...

FYI, I leave tomorrow morning for a two day getaway with my wife. I will be on the site sporadically, if at all. On Wednesday I will have a chance to update the final totals (Prior to shipping out prizes) for The Haven Foundation Fundraiser.

We plan on sitting on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean tomorrow night and enjoying a bit of "Annular" -hey now, don't get all nasty, I am talking about a solar/lunar event. We will be a few hundred miles southeast of the full annular path of the eclipse, but will do our best to enjoy the event.

Hey, I know I am not the "Director" or anything, but as my "new" title denotes, I am the "Haven Fund Facilitator" and the self named "Haven Fund Whore" so I guess you have all had to "put up with me" for the last few months!!! LOL

Not taking anything away from, Jerome, who is the back bone of this endeavor, I simply wanted to say a big "THANK YOU" to all that contributed to this worthy cause this year. From the "Artists" who were absolutely amazing, wonderful and generous, to the self-less individuals of this community. I will probably miss a few, but its not because your contributions were not integral. Thanks to, AKC donating and buying, Dolso, All the "Paypal Widget folks", you know who you are, The Publishers, TheStephenKingcollector.com, Liljas Library, The Overlookconnection.com, Ben Staad, Brice, Wizardsrainbow, Divemaster, Shannon, Oh, screw it, ALL OF YOU FOLKS, in this truly giving community. I'm sure I missed a few, The Artists were particularly involved this year and of course Mr. King and staff!!!!

Anyway, don't want to sound like an "Oscar" acceptance speech, but thanks to one and all for your generosity!!!!

Give yourselves a "round of applause"!!!!!

:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Edit: Oh, did I mention? We totally blew away last years totals and set a new record for donations to be finally tallied on Wednesday!!!! It's over $11,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
