click on the number of your post with the newest updated list (the number with the # sign at the top right-hand corner of your post), and copy the address that will appear in the address bar, then paste it where you need it.

Damn... how do I rename that link to "2011"?

Erin
01-05-2012, 12:02 PM
WeDealInLead,

To make a link "say" what you want it to, when you have the link copied, in a reply box, click on the picture of the small Earth with what looks like a white infinity symbol in front of it. When the box pops up, paste the link into it and hit OK. When the long string of letters and numbers appears, just start entering 2011 (or whatever you want to name the link). It will replace the highlighted area with your new name for it. Then post your reply.

Did that make any sense?

Jean
01-05-2012, 12:05 PM
I have done it now (edited your post) - you can see the code if you click "edit post"

The steps are:

1. You type the text you want to appear (for example, "2011")
2. You copy (CTRL+C) the url you want your link to lead to
2. You highlight the text ("2011") with your mouse
3. Click on the "Insert Link" icon
4. Paste the copied url there (CTRL+V)

ETA: was typing as Erin :rose: was posting... I am sure the directions she gave are better than mine! http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k291/mishemplushem/Facilitation/bearheart.gif

Jean, it is because of your opinion on Black House that I decided to go ahead and read it, even though I didn't particularly love The Talisman. I'm glad, because it was infinitely better IMO.

Oh yeah!!! I liked "Talisman", but BH can barely be called a "sequel" to me. It's a novel unto itself except for the character of Jack Sawyer. Plus, I liked BH 10x more than Talisman.

Good call!!!

Erin, actually they got significantly worse today. I slipped on a towel someone left on the bathroom floor and smacked my head on the bathroom sink. Fifteen minutes later I almost fell out of a chair I was just sitting in. I've had crazy fuckin' headaches all day....not to mention pain in my right shoulder, back, and right hip joint.

There's your problem. Reading without glasses when you're supposed to be using them is a surefire way to get migraines. Especially if you read at night in artificial lighting. I used to get migraines all the time, not using my glasses even though I was supposed to, and when I finally started using them again (two subscriptions later [/irresponsible]) the migraines ceeased.

Perhaps you're right. I am prone to severe migraines anyhow though. As I recall they were worse when I wore them regularly. Still I have thought about getting them again.

How did you find these, Erin? A friend of mine raved about Brisingr, but I haven't read any of his books yet.

The first book was just alright to me. However, I got really sucked into Eldest and Brisingr and thought they were awesome. The 4th book is pretty great as well, but I was very disappointed with the ending.

Overall though, they were very enjoyable books, even if they can be a bit formulaic at times. It's a very expansive world and I really enjoyed the history of the Dragon Riders and the dwarves that Paolini creates. I'd recommend them to anyone, but it's obvious that they are targeted towards a more PG-13, young adult crowd.

Yes. I love those books. It's very Dark Tower esque, but on a somewhat smaller scale. It has all of the quintessential Barker tropes; plenty of other worldly creatures and inter dimensional travel. It's only two volumes so you should be able to get through it relatively quickly.

I tried really hard with Barker, but I just could not get into him. The Great and Secret Show, Imajica and Weaveworld - only managed a couple of chapters of each. I kept going back to it because you (Feev) and Erin really rated them, but...I dunno, to me it seemed like he rambled too much and never got to the point.

I love Barker but he does tend to ramble and be in need of some serious editing in some of his novels. Have you read his short stories?

Reading:
1. Sacré Bleu - Christopher Moore

What did you think of Hyperion? I thought it was above average science fiction. It's basically a 500+ page prologue to the second book.

You know where things really get going? In Fall of Hyperion, in a big way. It's massive in scope and the themes and characters are bigger than life. I listened to Hyperion on CD unabridged and it's read by multiple actors, it's absolutely brilliant. Fall of Hyperion is read only by one person but again, very impressive.

I loved it actually. Couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed the characters different background stories with Hyperion and how they all came together. I just wasn't expecting it to end the way it did (or I guess didn't end) although I liked the Wizard of Oz bit. I really need to get the next one soon. I haven't had luck with audio books. I just can't focus for some reason.

I love it. It's a little hard to get in at first but I find the story very engaging.

I've been trying to decide whether to get the Weaveworld S/L or not. I haven't read the story but it looks interesting. Maybe i'll get the trade edition. It's reasonably priced.

I know some folks try to have the audiobooks as a background while they're doing something else. It doesn't work that way, that's like trying to read a book while doing dishes. I listen to audiobooks either in a car on my way to work or I'll set aside an hour and just lie down on the couch to listen to it. You probably could get away listening to Dan Brown or similar beach reading but someone as King and Simmons demand full attention.

Back on topic, here's my list for May, to be added to the full list later:

Suzane Collins - The Hunger Games
Robert McCammon - Swan Song
Tim Lebbon - Cabin in the Woods
John Urbancik - Shadows, Legends and Secrets

I hope you're right, but as it is now I've read like just under two books and they were both short ones. This is my slowest year for reading in decades...maybe ever.

Oh wow, it was brutal. I love his books, too, and this one has been the most intense of his that i've read since The Girl Next Door.

It's about a father who is sexually abusing his son and how the legal system fails when the mother tries to protect the boy. It's typical Ketchum and is extremely graphic and realistic. I literally read it in a day.

I have all the single issues of The Stand from start to finish and only the first hardcover. I'm holding out for the oversized slipcased edition before I do a re-read.

I should finish up The Stand graphic novel series tonight. Then, I was going to start on The Dark Tower graphic novels... but I think I'll hold off and read a few other random books instead. I'm missing a few of the DT books anyway and it might be awhile before I can make any more King purchases.
