View Full Version : Would You Look Into a Glass from the Wizard's Rainbow?

Erin

In Wizard and Glass, Steven tells Roland about the glass balls which form the Wizard's Rainbow.

Some colors of the Wizard's Rainbow are reputed to look into the
future. Others look into the other worlds—those where the demons live, those
where the Old People are supposed to have gone when they left our world.
These may also show the location of the secret doors which pass between the worlds. Other colors, they say, can look far in our own world, and see thingspeople woulas soon keep secret. They never see the good; only the ill.

My question is....knowing that the colors of the Rainbow never see the good, only the negative in situations, would you peer into one if you had the chance? Would the powerful urge to know the future, or to see another section of time overcome your better judgement, much as it did Roland's?

I voted Yes - The curiosity would kill me. :)

I could make glasses out of them and get two powers, and still just see things as I normally do, because I mostly see the negative these daysanyway.....so, yes.

I have an addictive personality as is. I don't need I dont need balls all up in my face, no matter how colorful.

Only Black Thirteen, thats where I would draw the line.

I'm weary sorcery and magic--Conan taught me that.

I would like to think I wouldn't look because my dad (who I respect) told me nothing good could come of it.

But I smoked so I would probably look

I think I would...probably only into the one that shows the doors though.

Letti

I wouldn't like to look into it but I am not sure I am strong enough to stop myself.

I agree with Letti.....I think I'd be drawn to it.

If I handed you Black Thirteen I doubt you'd be able to put it down.

Answering the title question: I didn't vote, because I wouldn't look into the glass, but not for the reasons given with that option. I wouldn't, because I know very well that all is going to show me is lies, and the only thing it wants is to try to have a piece of my soul; which is the case with all divination-related things. So I would keep away from that abomination just like I would keep away from a piece of shit - for hygienic reasons.

Letti

And do you feel yourself strong enough not to do so, Jean?

But don't you have a big enough soul to share a piece with everyone? :(

Anyway I think the glass wouldn't like to have just a piece... but the whole.

Jean
11-15-2007, 01:57 AM
And do you feel yourself strong enough not to do so, Jean?
There are to aspects to all that: first is curiosity - but I've always been more fastidious than curious. I am not really interested in filthy lies, unless they are a cultural phenomenon, - and it's not cultural phenomenon that we're talking here, it's what wants to worm itself into the very fabrics of your existence.
The other is this allegedly irresistible call of the glass. I hope my faith is strong enough to resist; I would pray. Luckily, I believe firmly, and I know what I believe in, and it's very strong foundation for resisting temptation. Father Callahan was able to resist it; I'd have his example before my mind's eyes.

Even if my house was very big, I wouldn't rent any part of it out to a kid-porn-producing studio.

Imagine all the great things you could do with Black 13. It could be a friend to you. That "irresistable call" is really just your soul telling you to make the right choice and use it to make everything better.

AllHail... I don't believe in the end justifying the means (remember my thread at .net?), or anything good coming from corruption. But you got me interested - what might those great things be that I could do with the help of Black 13 but can't with God on my side?

I'm so bold (or like to think I am) as that I would look into for the sole purpose as to deny it.

Sure show me my condemning future, but when you do that, don't think for one second I am not strong enough to defy it. Because I can and i will.

You could travel the worlds doing good things, helping folk. "Corruption" is all a matter of perspective. No, I don't remember your thread about it at the moment but I'm sure it was a dilly.
Plus with Black 13 you could see so much you've never seen before... :harrier:

1. You could travel the worlds doing good things, helping folk.
2. "Corruption" is all a matter of perspective.

1. God willing, I can do so without any props.
2. Yes. Since I know where I stand, my perspective is clear to me.
3. Oh! so, you spent all your time in Jigglies thread???
4. I can imagine it, thank you very much, I don't want to lose my appetite forever.

Copiously, with many different women that you aren't married to.

Black 13 can give you marvellous things, no question.
But if you ask me the price is way too big. It wants and gets your everything. So I don't think it's worth.

But yes, I totally agree. The price is way too big.

That being said (and BTW I admire your conviction of faith) I would still look. Not everyone is as susceptible to such things IMO. Also, I didn't vote because for me it wouldn't really be temptation. It would be mere curiosity.

Matt

I think I could do all the things Chris mentioned with out black13s help :ninja:

I think it would be different if I didn't know what it was but I would like to think I'm like Jean and would stay away from that kind of pure evil if I was aware of it.

The katet was actually good at that, it almost got a few of them but they were strong.

So 13...yes, I would fight it tooth and nail to not look. The rest of the colors might be harder to resist in a way because they are not so overtly evil.

OchrisO
11-17-2007, 12:52 PM
There's no way you could kill all four of the Banana Splits without black 13's help. Fleagle would fuck you up.......unless you are Bill Brasky.

it really didn't doom him to anything, it just gave him the unpleasant sight oh watching his love get incinerated. also, it was Reha who used the ball to decive him. not to mention he was Requiered to bring it back.
