Of Salman Rushdie, who once gave him a terrible review in the New York Times, he says: "That flaccid fuckhead. He was detestable. I called up the Ayatollah, nobody knows that." Roald Dahl: "The cruelty in his books is off-putting. Scary guy. I know he's very popular but what's nice about this guy? He's dead, that's what's nice about him." Stephen King: "Bullshit."

He sounds like a very lonely, bitter, old man. It's hard to not feel pity for him.

I thought he was funny. Bitter, yes, but still (unintentionally) funny.

I'm more aghast over that comment on Dahl. Get a clue, man.

I had to Google Sendak-I had forgotten about "Where the wild things are". He certainly is bitter, perhaps because he hasn't done much of note in close to a half century.

I feel the comment more offensive when he talks about Dahl than King.

while the rest (I've read the whole article) is just an old man's expected grumpiness, this remark stands out as particularly tasteless

I'm kinda' surprised he knows the word nice.

Why is this mans opinion even newsworthy?

This whole piece reeks of someone desperate for publicity - rather pathetic really

He also said of himself "I'm in the idiot role of being a kiddie book person." The sad part is that the interviewer probably felt that their work has similarities to Sendak's -- SK is, of course, also known for exploring the dark corners of existence through children characters. What they all do generally is really kind of bullshit compared to real art, but at least King totally accepts that enjoys it just for what it is. Maybe that's why he has managed to transcend his form so many more times.

"Who?"?
What?

You don't know Rushdie? Or Sendak?
