No, No use the Icon next to the envelope (above) to insert link to. Then it will put the pic directly into the thread, like all the other Collection Threads.

Usually some form of "Direct Link" info from PB or the others does it. I use "Imageshack". There is a "How To" thread somewhere that I used and made it easier. I'm an "Old fart" so you can imagine how difficult it was to get me "on-board". LOL LOL

Nice Job! Looks great! What is The Stand on the bottom of the shelf across from "The Plant"? Is that a first?

Garrell
07-06-2011, 10:23 AM
The bottom shelve with the Plant are just my reader copies. The 1st/1st Stand is on a upper shelf waiting for my 1st/1st The Shining to be it's neighbor (it's in the mail). I will be posting more pics tonight when I get off work.

I like the old paperbacks because those are the ones I read as a youngster. Carrie, Salem's Lot, and Christine are all 1st/1st and the most expensive one was $2.50 I think. Love Half-Price Books.

I had been offered a good amount for the Marilyn piece, but they wanted the rights to it also. They wanted it and for me to do a John Wayne and Michael Jordan. Looking back I should have maybe done it? The eagle is just a photo of a copy of it, the real piece is in Cali w/my sister. So you really can't see the details here.

I have the first Gunslinger but after that, I stayed away from them for fear of collecting comics again. I used to own a insane collection til it took a whole room to house it. Sold it and kept only my Frank Miller stuff and Garth Ennis.

I believe that the SK/Joe Hill story is a take off of Matheson and is the same story from He is Legend. I got a signed 20th Century Ghost for free with a purchase through eBay (was quite a suprise). Since then I picked up his other 2 novels (one still in the mail). I've only read the first 2 pages of Heart-Shaped Box and wow. Reading DT7 a little faster now cause Heart-Shaped Box is next. So I already have all the Joe Hill I need and can continue my unending SK quest.

Not sure Cook, it is on a list atm of which I take. Really want to take my pb Salem's Lot, but I am thinking that it being a pb, wear and tear in the future. Presently thinking: The Stand 1st/1st, Salem's Lot 1st/1st, Cycle of the Werewolf 1st/1st, On Writing 1st/1st (hate to admit it is one of my favorites)
Not worried about resale value, the book stays with me til I die, as the whole collection does, and then goes to my son.

Looks like your road to The Dark Tower is nearing completion!

The problem is that the road is NEVER a dead end.........there is always a new direction to head in.

As long as you take your wife to Va with you, put her up in a nice hotel, buy her an expensive dinner, see some new/different touristy types of places, she never needs to know you dipped into savings (or if she does find out, you can explain the "It was all for YOU, sweetie!!)!!

The shame is that, as far as I have been able to ascertain, the first 3 UK 1/1 are PB's, which I find infuriating. However, I have them all plus the 4 UK HC's in my collection. I have a 90-95% complete US/UK collection of ALL SK books. At least according to my personal rules!!!! LOL

I am finally(years later) finishing The dark Tower series. Part of me is sad in doing it, maybe the reason I have waited so long to. I am in DTVII, read about 200 pages today. got about 250 to go...I wish it never ended. So want to talk about it...but don't wanna spoil it for others. Our finance girl at work is a big SK/DT fan so we will be chatting tomorrow for sure.
If the first 3 are pb's I may skip them but I know me and I will eventually get the other 3 HB's, the covers and quality are just beautiful.

Garrell: I so know what you meant re taking your time with the series! I started DT1 about 8 years ago, and deliberately took a long time between books (once I got to part 3). Totally understand your comments about not wanting it to end. Ssince the series is some of King's best work ever, and I was running out of great King stories to read, I wanted to make the joy last longer lol...

Actually, the true UK 1st of DTIV is a paperback as well. So you have the 1st three paperbacks in one style, the last three books in hardcover in another style, and part 4 is an ugly red book that doesn't fit in with any of them.

Merlin1958

Personally, and according to my rules (granted arbitrary), the Hodder HC I have I consider to be a 1/1 UK title. I fully realize that arguments can be made either way, but I choose to ignore them!!!! :P LOL LOL

I went through your entire collection thread this morning.

You have some great stuff in there, as you must know. Personally I don't collect paperbacks, but I buy them as reading copies when needed, so I understand your perspective and your attachment to that format.

I really like the presentation afforded by your bookcase. If only they made those split-level cases with glass doors...

You are a talented artist, man! I am partial to Dali', so that one's my favorite. (I haven't been to the museum in Florida, but I have been to the Dali' museum in his hometown of Figueres (http://www.salvador-dali.org/museus/figueres/en_index.html).)

Thanks Patrick,
The pb are only of the first few because those were the versions I read and could afford as a teenager and I lived overseas alot and the were the only option.
I have been to the Dali museum in St. Peteersburg and loved it, did that piece because I couldn't afford a real Dali, so I just drew my own, got a couple Frank Miller's I did the same on.
The bookcases I love but do wish they were glass enclosed. Guess I could solve that problem myself as I built homes from the ground up for 18 years, saying that the talent to do it is there, just not the get up and do it that is needed.
As far as the DT series, I am still blown away with it

You have some great stuff in there, as you must know. Personally I don't collect paperbacks, but I buy them as reading copies when needed, so I understand your perspective and your attachment to that format.

I really like the presentation afforded by your bookcase. If only they made those split-level cases with glass doors...

You are a talented artist, man! I am partial to Dali', so that one's my favorite. (I haven't been to the museum in Florida, but I have been to the Dali' museum in his hometown of Figueres (http://www.salvador-dali.org/museus/figueres/en_index.html).)

Congratulations on finishing the series at your own pace, Garrell.

You should do some art for a "Dolso" case and be immortalized!!!!

Not to worry, is in the works, or not:) Had to get that pesky DT series finished to get really focused. Got some very rough sketches and ideas, torn on the composition I want for Tick-Tock, don't be shocked if half his head is missing hehe.

Summer is the sale season in my business, so I had a goal this summer...so only 3 or 4 more big ones and it gets slow til next summer. Won't be like this summer, saved for it and was kinda my bucket list summer for SK...no not dying, just getting older and wanted certain things before just in case:) and yes Cook, it was a very good summer in some ways. I also focused on paying any and all bills for 8 months before this so I became pretty much bill free.

Was thinking...ironic, it looks like my last 1st/1st will be the one that started it all back in 76, Salem's Lot. It will have to wait til at least after the VA event. BTW, the Carrie was in way better shape than the money I spent for it, DJ close to mint and book itself great except a library stamping on one page. I have a plan to get rid of that part...

Don't know why it took so long for me to do so, but I finally got around to checking out your Collection Thread.

Love the bookshelves, and I love the fact that you seem to be so focused in your Stephen King collection. I buy everything that seems interesting, but of course, that makes me broke ALL THE TIME, because I can always find something interesting when I'm looking for SK stuff to buy. So, I end up with a lot of great little stuff, but I miss out on the bigger items. I'll get there someday (one daaaaaaaaaaay, over the --- nevermind). Anyway, I think you need a current SK collection pic. :)

I love the 11/22/63 pic. Some people just don't understand ... Amber asks me why I have a few of the same book. I tell her, this is a first edition, this is a first edition flatsigned, this is a first edition remarqued, etc. lol

RE: slipcases, I recently realized (moving stuff around) that I have a handful of S/Ls without a slipcase and/or traycase. Quietly Now, Under The Dome, etc. Without going broke (dolso, Overlook, etc.), do you know if anyone makes generic (but decent looking) slipcase of differing sizes?

The Collector has a specific one for UTD and CD has some generic ones that may suit on their slipcase page....

While I understand they can seem expensive, I did a lot of "shopping" before I found "Dolso" and to be honest with what you generally pay for a cardboard SC, it seems a better investment. to me, to go with a custom wooden case. It's like buying a book case for your book. Spent $100 for a TCBL SC for my LOTR books and ended up with a $200+ cost for a Dolso display case that is amazing!!! I think that when it comes to SC's you really have to think it out for the long haul, but of course that's just MHO.

I will post some tomorrow.
For TDT members that don't know...Cook sold me my 1st/1st in time for me to get it signed in VA, and he was there:0 He and RF are also responsible for the awesome slipcase...point being, my crown jewel was mostly "built" by Cook:)
