I want to get into Moorcock's Elric novels. My bookstores have the Del Rey "The Chronicles of the Last Emperor of Melnibone" readily available. I picked up Volume 1, titled Elric: The Stealer of Souls. It has the novella The Stealer of Souls, a random short story about a character named Sojan, and Stormbringer.

I've discovered that, chronologically, Stormbringer should be the last Elric story. So are these collections by Del Rey a good place for someone new to Elric to start reading? I've browsed for paperbacks of the individual novellas and a couple of other omnibi, but good Lord those things are expensive!

Go to your local book reseller and look for "The Chronicles of Corum". Great stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the chronological order of the main sequence. "To Rescue Tanelorn" takes place at the same time as Stormbringer!

Elric of Melnibone (aka The Dreaming City)
The Fortress of the Pearl
The Sailor on the Seas of Fate
The Weird of the White Wolf
The Vanishing Tower (aka The Sleeping Sorceress)
The Revenge of the Rose
"The Stealer of Souls" (in Bane of the Black Sword)
"Kings in Darkness" (same)
"The Flame Bringers" (same)
"The Last Enchantment" (in Elric at the End of Time)
"To Rescue Tanelorn" (in Bane of the Black Sword)
Stormbringer!

There is also this much more in-depth suggested reading order over at multiverse.org that includes everything:\

I would suggest going with that to get a more complete picture.

since we didn't seem to have a Moorcock thread, I have renamed this one to enable it to hold any Moorcock discussion
