So anyone doing that New York event? I would love a signed Sandman Overture.

I have friend there who can go and probably get some copies. However I'll need to pay her something. So if anyone else is interested we can split the cost.

Let me know

you need to rsvp to attend - that is free - but looks like the rsvp list is already full - so there is a stand by line that you have to get into for the event.

Getting some of the bonus materials turned in and the signature sheets signed was like pulling teeth, but I think it was worth it in the end!

As I await my copy, just what is the bonus material, exactly? Can't remember what eventually turned out to be extra in it.

Hola!

As a very long time lurker, I finally signed up this morning. (Used to use a ton of other web forums but time and life interfered and I cut those visits back to zero.)

This thread got me thinking about a lot of my Gaiman signed items (I don't own any of the super fancy versions quite a few of you have, but I do own most of his first edition books that I got signed in-person, and the sweet "hobby market" edition of Coraline.)

But I digress . . .

What really got me thinking while looking at all of your books, is if anyone is familiar with a poster called Faces of Death. I'm not 100% sure if that's what it was truly called (Google doesn't help me too much because it's almost always the movie series . . .)

I have a copy of it in the garage somewhere that I want to dig up and look at, but it is something that I bought from Westfield Comics in the mid to late 90s (95-97 specifically) that was basically a poster that a ton of writers and artists collaborated on where they drew little boxes of ways to die. Yeah, it sounds morbid. Gaiman did a doodle (I don't recall what he depicted) and I had him sign it on the Stardust book tour.

I'll definitely dig this up and take a picture but I was just curious if anyone else knew about this one.

Thanks!

Hola!

Second time posting this (not sure what happened the first time. I thought it said that my post had to be approved but it hasn't shown up since Sunday but another post on another thread appeared, so I'm not sure.)

But I digress ...

I actually signed up (after LOTS of lurking) because of this thread. Just looking at some of the amazing Gaiman editions out there got me thinking about what I have. Last stuff that I've gotten signed in person (starting from a comic event back in 1993) and on his tour for Neverwhere and others.

The coolest book I have is either the hobby market edition of Coraline or maybe the first hardcover Sandman collections or some of the books from Dreamhaven. Who knows.

Anyway - I have one item that I've never seen anywhere else and was wondering if anyone has come across it. It's a poster called Faces of Death and it came out in 1994. I remember buying it from Westfield Comics. It had a bunch of little squares that various artists and writers drew their version of death. Neil drew something and I had him sign the poster while on his Stardust tour.

I dug it up and will post pictures when I am able to.

But has anyone else come across this poster? I haven't looked at it in easily 20 years until this weekend. It's actually really cool and would be awesome to get everyone to sign it but that would probably be a full time job upon itself.

Personally it's the first time that I hear of this poster but I'm pretty new to collecting (3-4 years). I'm sure other experienced long time gaiman collectors members will chime in and respond.

Explore, browse, ask and enjoy. This is a great forum with very very nice people :)

After nearly a year of the signed copies - the remarqued ones are finally available:

http://www.dynamite.com/htmlfiles/viewProduct.html?PRO=C1606906089#previewImages

Looks like just 200 and signed by Gaiman and zulli, NOT by Alice Cooper - like the initial signed ones. I guess it took a little time to sketch all 200 copies - other sites say #250 - but the publisher site is updated to state 200 copies. The remarqued look pretty cool and a fairly cheap price. I had a pre-order from midtown comics that will finall be filled - and shipping soon. They have them listed on their site for a bit less too:

Guess they were left with a few extra copies - thats a pretty darn good price...with or with the extra 25% off - I never saw extra amazon coupons before - you always find discounts.

I had been emailing Dynamite directly about once a quarter asking if the last temptation was ever going to be finished - they always responded kindly and quickly that yes they were working on it. That was the oldest email in my book inbox - since i go through that weekly to double check what should be coming or - or needs paid for, etc. I never received an email from midtown yet - but my order page finally said processing/ready to ship - so we will see.

Honestly, no. I don't even see them advertised as first printings on most eBay listings. I don't think I ever even checked what printings I have.

If you came across one in person and you made sure it was mint, I'd say go for it. Otherwise, get them new and be 100% sure they haven't been red-flagged. Buying used comics is a risky business.

Read the french version of "FORTUNATELY THE MILK" yesterday, that has exclusive illustrations by Boulet (and those are pretty good!)

There is also an introduction where among 2 lines Neil Gaiman compliment the illustrator (but I guess that it's the same introduction for every edition, with the artist name being different)

It's weird how they put items on sale for a day and then go back to regular prices.

hence why i have to stop here daily - since someone usually finds the great items - that a single person could never keep track of.

You mean like this: https://forbiddenplanet.com/156739-good-omens-signed-hardcover/

That's the new UK edition of Good Omens. Bookplate only and it doesn't say what printing.

I finally got around to taking pictures of that Faces of Death poster that I bought back in 94/95.

Here's the full image of all of the various artwork.

And lastly, a close-up of Neil's contribution, complete with autograph that I acquired on the Stardust novel tour.

I don't know much about the origins of this poster, other than I purchased in from Westfield Comics back in 1994 or 1995. Full of art work from writers, artists, movie guys (like Terry Gilliam for example.) Be a really massive undertaking to get each segment signed (excluding the fact that I already spotted a few names belonging to people who've passed.)

Took advantage of the bad weather to do some scanning for my Core Collection. One I hadn't fondled in awhile:

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e306/KNOMEOR/WIZARDS-Small_zpsr1iyiwq1.jpg

In addition to a number of absolutely fabulous stories (Elizabeth Hand's "Winter's Wife" is a personal favorite) this anthology was notable for the appearance of "The Witch's Headstone," which was the first published portion from THE GRAVEYARD BOOK. The back cover of the proof clearly states that that story--about which there was Much Buzz--would only be available in the finished book, but it is in fact included here. I seem to recall that there were two versions of the advance copies, one with and one without... if anyone recalls, or has a copy without, would welcome a comment back.

I know - there's a ton of possibilities. But those above are still pretty available. Although the Machineries of Joy is tough to find - but still 100 of those. These two though, there are 52 or less (unsure of exact number but less than 50) of each. One is from Overlook and the other from Centipede Press.. So that should narrow it down considerably.

Yep that would be one of them - there's another copy ending this Saturday - so still a chance for someone else.

There was a separate translucent signature page signed by gaiman and t.c. Boyle that was bound into the first several dozen - between the other signature pages. The number I got is 46 - so I'm guessing there are at least 46 of these

This book is BEAUTIFUL! I shouldn't be surprised, it's a Centipede Press production after all. I am so glad I had faith in Chad and picked up this one.

Chad, mine is #26. What is yours? (Saw yours is #46.)

Ah, I was talking to the seller of #26 too. The book was top of my current budget already, but shipping to the UK on top made it unrealistic. I saw the ebay listing went down - glad it went to a good collector :-)

Yeah - but the Stand is awfully nice (and needed a bit more picket change) - so a much better pick up - if I only had a choice between the two...but if I ever see another copy - I'll see how tempted you are ;).

So a new 1500 copy s/l edition of the graveyard book - graphic novel. I never bought any of the signed copies of the two volume set. So now i will wait for this one:

Now 1,500 people can revel in The Graveyard Book Graphic Novel in a new way with this limited printing of numbered copies—all signed by Neil Gaiman!

Each chapter in this adaptation by P. Craig Russell is illustrated by a different luminary from the comic book world, showcasing a variety of styles from a breadth of talent. Together, they bring Neil Gaiman’s award-winning, nationally bestselling novel The Graveyard Book to new life in this gorgeously illustrated single-volume graphic novel adaptation.

This special limited edition of The Graveyard Book Graphic Novel includes:
Both volumes of the graphic novel adaptation (2014) bound into one edition
Brand-new cover art by P. Craig Russell

An extra 32 pages at the end of the book, including a note from Neil Gaiman, sketches from the artists, and notes from the artists and P. Craig Russell about the experience of adapting The Graveyard Book into a graphic novel
Numbered editions signed by Neil Gaiman!

Well time to start searching and finding other vendors to see if better pricing.

$175.00 for a reprint- of an adaptation?! No thanks. I was waiting for a nice $30-40 single volume edition, but certainly not this. That is ridiculous, and I don't say that too often. Hopefully, probably, there will be an unsigned ("Unspecial") single volume later.

Gaiman just announced on his Twitter that there's going to be a special illustrated edition of Neverwhere coming out this year.

I predict a trade, a trade with a tipped-in signature and an official S/L. Did I miss something?

I read that too. I assumed it was going to be just an illustrated edition. I wasn't thinking another s/l. I guess we will wait and see.

Gaiman’s second book this year will be a special edition of his first novel Neverwhere, illustrated by children’s laureate Chris Riddell.

Gaiman said: “Chris Riddell is an amazing artist. Last year Neverwhere was voted, by the public, their most beloved book about London, and Chris drew the Neverwhere characters on a bench shaped like a book, that would go up for auction. From that moment on, his doom was sealed. He was going to have to draw the characters in the book that could be bought by everybody, not just the lucky winners of a bench in a charity auction. Unfortunately, Chris is the busiest man in the world, and, as well immediately made Children’s Laureate,‎ following this, getting him to draw Neverwhere seemed unlikely. Fortunately, he wanted to.”

The book will be published on 14th July 2016, priced £14.99.

At that price I don't expect a S/L. Assume it is just a nice new edition. I really like Chris' illustrations so will pick one up.

$175.00 for a reprint- of an adaptation?! No thanks. I was waiting for a nice $30-40 single volume edition, but certainly not this. That is ridiculous, and I don't say that too often. Hopefully, probably, there will be an unsigned ("Unspecial") single volume later.

There will be one of those too....

I was very happy to finally get a UK SL of THE GRAVEYARD BOOK from David at a fair price. Tough to do these days. I passed on this when it came out because I had the Subpress edition on order. Always regretted that I didn't get one. Thanks to David- I have now righted that wrong.

It's a nice book - I picked up my copy just a couple weeks back. I too had always just passed on it since I had the subpress copy - then gave in. I have a bunch of McKean signed books - so I liked adding this one. Then Becca caved and got a copy too.

Nice - Happy almost birthday - I found something else you might like for your birthday while you are at it:

these are just a little over priced...

Considering that I've put together a non-matching set of the first offering for less than $1K - id say they're a wee bit overpriced...

As I did no research, I had no idea what the proof would look like, the level of scarcity, nor what the market price should be. I'm quite pleased with it. It seems unique with the type of paper used for the cover and then having its own dustjacket. Plus I just plain like the story.

Even if they participate - they still have to decide to order those particular items. It's no guarantee that they'll be at every store - and each store might have a different allotment, again given how many they ordered.

Thanks.

We will have to keep our eyes open for signed copies of the view from the cheap seats due out 31 May.

Last week I signed 1,300 UK copies of VIEW FROM THE CHEAP SEATS, which will surface in Waterstones, and independent & High St Bookshops in the UK on May 31st and afterwards. It was not filmed. But if you are curious, this is what signing 1,200 copies of Ocean at the End of the Lane looks like... (Sped up.)

Might need help from our UK friends to get a copy. Also on the books Facebook page neil mentioned he'll be doing a similar signing for the U.S. Release - for Indy shops. So be on the lookout for your local indy online to find where we can order a copy.

Congrats! That really is one beautiful book. I scored a "trade" (unsigned, in slipcase) for cheap and it's one of my favorite publications in recent memory.

If anyone is getting the Neil Gaiman coloring book this Saturday for Independent Bookstore Day, could you please pick up an extra? When I go to the Stephen King event in Pittsburgh, I want to give one to my friend that I'm staying with. Unfortunately, I'm going to be shuttling my kids between soccer practice, baseball practice, and a birthday party on Saturday (while my wife is visiting the same friend), so there's no way I'll get to the bookstore. So, if there's any way someone could buy another copy for me, I would be extremely grateful.

I have an extra copy of the Gaiman coloring book BUT: it has some damage along the back open edge--about 1.25" torn and with a good bit of the edge chipped away, about .25" deep. Didn't notice it at the store, don't plan to return it; if anyone is interested at my cost (about $20 including the tax and shipping to US), please drop a PM.

If you are not in the US, FYI that the weight of the book boxed is 15oz. Glad to ship it overseas, but please contact me to discuss the shipping amount.

Neil will be making an appearance in London on May 31st at the Union Chapel

info/tickets here: http://www.musicglue.com/union-chapel/events/31-may-16-an-evening-with-neil-gaiman--audrey-niffenegger-union-chapel/

To celebrate the publication of Neil Gaiman’s collection of non-fiction, The View from the Cheap Seats, the award-winning author will be joined by Audrey Niffenegger, bestselling author of The Time Traveller’s Wife, at a rare public event in London. The Union Chapel, Islington, will play host to these two literary heavy-weights, as they discuss Gaiman’s latest work, lauded by Stephen Fry as ‘magnificent’, amongst a myriad of other topics sure to delight fans – with a couple of surprises also in store…

Tickets are £20 each, and include a free signed copy of The View from the Cheap Seats for every ticket-holder, which they will receive on the night courtesy of Waterstones. The event will be live-streamed across the globe, via YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, so fans who are unable to attend can also enjoy this special, one-off event. Furthermore, Gaiman and Niffenegger will be answering audience questions, both from within the chapel and from those viewers at home or in bookshops tuning in. Anyone not present at Union Chapel will have the opportunity to submit their own questions via Twitter ahead of the event using the hashtag #CheapSeats.

I might have an extra copy of Anansi boys s/l - without the notebook. Feel free to PM me if interested. Also picked up a little TPB - Angela - the other day - compiles the various pieces that Neil did for McFarlane and Spawn

Any idea if they are just signed or if they have one of those tipped-in limitation pages?

I do have an extra copy of s/l Anansi boys in slip case for $125 (including shipping in US) - PM if interested.

Does not include the notebook. Fine, unread condition. This one is not numbered (and not labeled as PC, etc.) - which is true with many of these - since this was the volume that helped lead to the collapse of Hill House

Thanks very much for that! Was hoping there would be pre-signed copies. Wonder what the "embossed" is about...?: "The following bookstores will have limited quantities of signed and embossed first editions of The View from the Cheap Seats available for purchase starting May 31"

I saw a picture on Twitter of the presigned View From the Cheap Seats. It looks exactly like the same generic one that was in The Fireman. I wish they looked more like the ones done in the past for American Gods and Anansi Boys. At least they felt a little more unique. This "Plain Jane" version is very disappointing.

I was at The Union Chapel event in London last night.
The books we received were simply flatsigned UK 1st editions, which is what I expected (Neil later tweeted a picture of him signing them backstage beforehand).

Happy to have one though!

I agree. Just as easy to print something related, art-wise, on those sheets. Any ideas about what the "embossed" was refering to..?

That I don't know about yet. Not sure if it something different than the picture I saw. I'm hesitant to order one if it is just that simple signed page.

The embossing reads "The View from the Cheap Seats Signed First Edition." It doesn't show up on scans because it's an embossing of the paper.

Embossing is an impression. Like a seal that is stamped into the paper. The paper warps and retains the impression.

I have no idea what they intend though.
