I'm just curious - what do you all think of this signature up on ebay -

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Good-Omens-SIGNED-Neil-Gaiman-and-Terry-Pratchett-2006-1st-Edition-/331512563659

Personally it just doesn't seem right to me - just curious as to what others think

That looks horrible to me.

Thanks - and Pratchett looks even worse - I know we don't talk about fake Gaiman sigs much - but I would pass on this one - it looks bad all around - especially in the inscription which goes back n forth between print and cursive - everything about it screams fake.

I'm going to have to break down and read something of Gaiman's besides the old Sandman comics...

thanks for the update - i had already bought the first 3 books - alan moore started the miracleman series - and they re-released the first 3 books in HC late last year and earlier this year. If you have not read this one - i HIGH:Y recommend reading it - but start from Book 1. There are still legal issues regarding these books - and hence the re-releases just say "the original writer" - they never mention alan moore anywhere. This is the only comic - that I own the original issues (several of #15), the trade books and the HC set (plus the first book in french with an awesome cover - never seen that one for sale anywhere) - my all time favorite - now i can read the re-releases and not touch the others

WOW - i just re-read the article and they are finally finishing their story - I cannot wait. The original ended abruptly - again due to legal issues and other things

Horrible packing is right! I first bought the CD IT gift edition via Amazon. It arrived with a giant UPC sticker affixed to the slipcase. I tried peeling it off, and it was slowly ruining the case. I ended up sending it back.

Last night they performed a 'thing' from the project, a kind of poem/song hybrid called 'umbrella', so my guess is similar - musically performed works with Dave Mckean backdrops. But time will tell.

i have one on order - initially i got it from amazon - but cancelled that and ordered through TFAW.com - things from another world - i get all of my comics/graphic novels from there and they have a pre-order sale at $60 - and i trust their shipping better than amazon - and it was close to the amazon price - and cheaper that subpress.

looks like a limitation of 3000 - so they will be around awhile

TFAW usually doesn't have as good enough a discount as some other (comic book) sites do. However, I wasn't aware that they also carried books (signed or otherwise)! Do you pay once you place an order, or when the order ships?

Pay upon shipment - nothing up front. - but they don't like you to cancel pre-orders - since that's what they base their stock on. Usually pre-orders are about 20-30% savings - typically 20%. Cheap graphic novels is the best - but you gotta be quick and check the site once books are released.

I think it's unfortunate that Easton is producing these Gaiman titles in what I call their "Generic" style. i.e. nothing unique or extra about both the inside, and the outside design gold stamping. This is when I usually pass on an Easton title (although, I DID buy American Gods- because I'm a sucker for that book and have the "Every Edition, Damnit!" bug about it). They produce a lot of books this way, and it draws a huge yawn from me. I MUCH prefer when they do a little something with them, like they do with their "Collector's" line, or like the Horror Classics a few years back- where they include illustrations (or, at least a color frontispiece), introductions, and, especially- proprietary gold cover stamping that is relevant to the book. Like they just did with their SILENCE OF THE LAMBS in the "Reader's Choice" line. That goes a long way with the esthetics. Nothing extra in the book proper, but a nice color frontis, and a knockout Butterfly Motif all around the cover and spine. It looks GREAT on the shelf.

These "generic" editions, while "nice"- hey, they're signed and bound in leather- but, they just don't move the needle.

I agree, they dont really appeal compared to some of the other special editions available. 2nd hand sales seem to suggest they hold their price though, so probably not too risky an investment.

Also, they did confirm on Twitter this is the extended text, not the original, so that is something.

For now though, I will stick with the rather nice William Morrow edition :-)

This is a good opportunity for me to toss out that if anyone here has a 1st U.S. HC of NEVERWHERE inscribed to me (Ron Clinton), I'd really like to buy that back from you...no idea when or why I sold it, but it's bugged me for a long time that I got rid of it.

I know it's a long shot, but, hey, you never know...

I'm guessing the Easton press release will be the same as the soon to be released authors preferred text (similar to morrow edition) which will include how the marquis got his coat back (which was only released in rogues so far):

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/neverwhere-neil-gaiman/1121093022?ean=9780062371058

So there's a chance this Easton press edition will also include the new novella - I sent a message to EP - still waiting for reply/confirmation. The other two EP Gaiman books have held their value in recent sales - and if this is the only signed edition w preferred text and the marquis novella - then it should hold its value too - IMHO.

Well not so good news on neverwhere - at least for me possibly purchasing:

Dear Mr. Tarter;

Thank you for contacting us regarding the title, Neverwhere, item #3075, signed by Neil Gaiman. This is an exact reprinting of the original that is bound in leather.
At this time there is no limit as to how many copies we will be offering.
Our copy will be available sometime in late July or early August.
If we can further assist you, please let us know.

Sincerely,
Nancy

So no mention of the marquis - sounds like it is not included. As to the limitation - does that mean that they have neil trapped in a room to sign as many copies as there are pre-orders? Or do they contract to a certain number as a minimum if not that many pre-orders sold? I cannot find The other two EP Gaiman titles on their site - so one presumes they were sold out?

What makes this copy deluxe? I am thinking about buying a Sandman starter...

"Twenty-five years after THE SANDMAN first changed the landscape of modern comics, Neil Gaiman's legendary series is back in a deluxe hardcover edition! From the birth of a galaxy to the moment that Morpheus is captured, THE SANDMAN: OVERTURE features cameo appearances by fan-favorite characters such as the Corinthian, Merv Pumpkinhead and, of course, the Dream King's siblings: Death, Desire, Despair, Delirium, Destruction and Destiny. This volume collects THE SANDMAN: OVERTURE #1-6 in its entirety, plus bonus material."

thats all it says - basically all 6 collected together in a 224 page HC book

I wonder if he'll do a tour for the "preferred" edition of Neverwhere coming out in August.

I highly doubt it - since he doesn't tour anymore (but still signs a ton of limitation sheets) and this is not really a new book release. It seems lately with each new book - he goes to 1 or 2 places only - usually tied to some contest/fundraiser. I think the last big tour was with the Ocean.

Really? I had just assumed that you had one of the 10th anniversary bloomsbury Coraline books - these were out in 2012, HC in slipcase and signed by both Gaiman and Riddell - 2250 s/n copies. The HC matches the HC Graveyard book (although that one was not s/n - at least the one that I have).

I think that collecting Neil Gaiman is worst than King, there are SO MANY limited items !

From his twitter account :
"The upcoming UK paperback cover for "A special Christmas edition" of THE OCEAN AT THE END OF LANE"
https://www.headline.co.uk/assets/HeadlinePublishing/img/book/420/isbn9781472228420.jpg

Is that a new thing, "SPECIAL CHRISTMAS editions"?

The Truth Is a Cave in the Black Mountains :
"There are only 250 copies of this edition of the beautifully illustrated short story from Sunday Times bestselling author of the National Book Awards Book of the Year THE OCEAN AT THE END OF THE LANE."
>>> https://www.headline.co.uk/books/detail.page?isbn=9781472221087

SO MANY of his stories are being printed, illustrated !

Combine that with the different versions of Sleeper and the Spindle...I can't keep up. Plus, the new version of Neverwhere comes out today (Easton Press signed edition is available now). I'm getting tired of chasing signatures. I'd actually prefer to read some new books from him as opposed to collecting different versions of the same book or story.

I think that limited Cave is the same as the US one, a few other UK sites have better pictures that seem to match.

as for the new paperback, I think its fairly common for new covers to get rolled out every now and then, but I dont see them as collectible at all.
(although I do like that cover!)

I don't know....the limitation page on the Coles site shows 3000 copies, which would make me think that this is the one that Amazon also has. But his Twitter feed says in response to another user -- "There will only be 250 of them." So I don't know what he is talking about.

Curious. the copy sold through subpress was 3000 too: http://subterraneanpress.com/store/product_detail/the_truth_is_a_cave_in_the_black_mountains_signed_ limited_edition_preorder

and the copy on that coles page has the same isbn as the version listed on the headline.co.uk page

Gotta believe it's 3000 - no longer avail at sub press, the amazon page is down, as well as the one from things from another world. And there is no actual order availability from headline site. Coles is the only one of the mix that has available to order. Guess just have to wait a month to actually see.

I'm not chasing all of those various covers, editions, etc. please throw Harry Potter in that mix - there's a new special, Christmas, colored edition seemingly every 9-12 months. But they have the fans I guess to support all of these reprints.

But the truth s/n does look like a nice production. I only wish it actually included a DVD showing footage from some of the readings - since that was truly a fun evening - when I saw it in SF.

the content of the edition on all these sites seems to be exactly the same, so I can only think that either:
-someone got it wrong and there are 3000
-there is a separate numbered run of 250 for the uk.

Another UK link for the Truth/Cave limited edition: http://www.bookdepository.com/Truth-is-Cave-Black-Mountains-Neil-Gaiman/9781472221087

this is less than rrp and with free postage. I've cancelled my Amazon order and ordered from here instead. With postage to the UK added to the amazon.com price, it worked out approx the same price but I'll get it quicker from here (and I have used BD before with no packaging problems!)

....and they quote the 250 limitation rather than 3000.

Looks like I might end up w two copies. I had already cancelled Amazon - don't trust them with s/l books too much and ordered one from tfaw. Cannot cancel pre-orders from tfaw though. So I might have a gift for the holidays or an extra in case anyone can't get one. Now what to do about signed spindle when they change that listing closer to publication? Cancel Amazon and go with book depository too?

Well I am not that much of a completist that I feel the need to have both versions of this truth/cave edition! I'll stick with the BD one and so long as it looks like the pictures I have seen of the US version, I'll be happy with that (it does look like a very nice copy).

As for Spindle, I already have the mini-hardback from the California Book Day and a standard UK 1st, which I got signed/insribed by Chris Riddell recently. I pre-ordered the signed copy from Amazon as it was a good price but am not worried about any more variants if they appear!

But in relation to my inscribed copy, Chris was a guest speaker at a small Book festival in Bedford last month, about 20mins from where I live, and kindly did a signing session after his talk. I had taken Spindle on the off chance he might. My daughter got one of her Goth girl books signed too.

We had a short chat about Neil and he is obviously a huge fan of his too. He was actually one of the nicest people I have met at a signing and I suspect the queue lasted a long time with how talkative he was!

Mr. Schneider is doing a Q&A in his own thread - very interesting information. Just some history about the case for the lettered AG:

Okay, this answer is to Chad, about the Lettered Edition of AMERICAN GODS.

You are absolutely correct, Chad. I'd always liked the idea of a lettered limited with a hinged door. Once I had the opportunity to do so with my own company, I pulled out my old designs and put them into effect.

A great observation!

to hear the original design of the Stand Case - go to that thread and enjoy. I know Pete did a lot more Gaiman than King books - so maybe he will stop by here as well.

Very nice proof. Only a couple of weeks until we see what shakes out w the damn truth. Btw I saw an auction that someone "presold" one of the 250 limited copies for £199. Seriously 4x the issue price - I was amazed - especially since you can still find copies for pre-order if you only searched a little bit.

As an aside - check out the cbldl website - comic book legal defense league -

http://cbldf.myshopify.com

They have some great stuff - a bunch of signed graphic novels, some by gaiman too - since he helped establish it. I just dropped a couple hundred yesterday on books I wanted to read. Signed copies of Maus, Craig thompson, jeff smith, Frank miller, watchmen books, just to name a few. These are all just slightly above original publisher costs if that. I'd been wanting a bone artist edition from idw - and they had a signed/sketched version for less than idw sells their signed/numbered copy (and that isn't sketched). So check it out. Plus if you need a charitable organization to donate to you can do that as well.

I received my long ago ordered copies of Truth today from Amazon. I ordered two and they're sequential numbers (of 3,000). Nice productions.

One thing that's odd is that Eddie Campbell's signature is in gold marker in one of the books, and green marker in the other. Also, signed differently with the green sig being all on one line, and the gold having 'Eddie' above 'Campbell'.

Probably not that strange to change markers during signing many limitation pages I guess. But weird that of 2 sequential books I have 2 different sig colors and styles.

Also, total number of pages I'm counting is 82 - which doesn't match either the Amazon or Book Depository descriptions.

I haven't seen a copy yet. Did these sheets have hand-numbering or pre-printed numbering?

I can only speak from personal experience, so don't quote me as this being correct in this particular instance, but there's a very good reason we don't number or letter sheets BEFORE they go to the printer: the printer often reshuffles the sheets or even damages some in the printing process. So it's entirely possible that the very first sheet signed and the very last sheet signed could end up in back to back books! Since we number the books after the arrive back from the printer, we never know if the signing order was maintained. (But based on the couple of times when an author did pre-number the sheets, I would guess the signing order is almost never maintained...!)

I think it's really neat that you ended up with two different color pens on your sig sheets. I know some people don't care about that sort of thing, but I always think it's cool. :)

Sure thing, cit74. Here's a picture of my two limitation pages (again these are both from Amazon). And yes, the mp3 CD was included - it looks exactly like pictured on the sub press site and others.

Also thanks for your comments and insights on the signature sheet process, Brian. Very interesting - I just never really thought about how out of order they must get. I also think it's kind of cool to see such differences on sequential copies, but I will geek out a bit on such things.

This might be the only reason I buy this copy - this story is also in rogues. But with neverwhere is where it should be.

Here's a disappointment:

Dear Chad I. Tarter,

I am terribly sorry to inform you that on this occasion we have been unable to fulfil part of your order.

If your order was a pre-order unfortunately, information ahead of publication is not foolproof so a new title may be cancelled or postponed indefinitely. An edition scheduled for reprinting may be similarly abandoned by the publishers.

If you have ordered other titles, we will send you the remainder of your order immediately.

Well I still have one on order from things from another world - now I've got to check to see if that was cancelled too. Looks like amazon was a better place to go so far (I didn't order through them this time of course). As long as tfaw order is good I'll be happy - and won't have to worry about what to do with a second copy. Still sucks - what's the point of making a pre-order...it's like Seinfeld making a car rental reservation. Anyone get two copies just in case?

My copy from Amazon has the 8 page comic at the end, but no vellum cover overwrap.

Thanks, Eric. Was so busy last night I still haven't looked at mine again. I wonder what the vellum overwrap was supposed to be? Vellum has always seemed to me to be a somewhat subjective material; it's sometimes that opaque thin paper that covers a book like a dust jacket (or that blueprints are printed on?), or it's a thicker, smoother material, that you can actually bind a book in. Apparently. Anyway, I thought it might be the former, covering the dust jacket-less, book and pictorial cover inlay. Would've been a nice extra touch.

I've received both the 1/250 UK edition from Headline, and the 1/3,000 US edition from William Morrow.

And so I can confirm that they both exist.

They're basically the same except for different limitation pages and publisher information.

I bought the Headline edition from Amazon.co.uk, and got the WM edition from Amazon.ca and Chapters.ca. I may return one of them because I don't need two of the US edition.

I assumed they meant something like a dust jacket. So much fuss over a small book with a large limitation. It's a nice book, but the Net is filled with so much info. Hard to know what's true sometimes.

So I am now waiting for my replacement - hopefully they will have some better quality control and make sure that this copy has an actual signature...

also got my truth in a cave book - they did a nice job with that (and i have no intentions of getting the 1/250 edition). I did enjoy the added 8 pages at the end. It was nice since it brought back the memories of seeing the truth performed live in SF - since that was the actual exchange between Neil and Eddie that occurred at the end of the story - when Neil introduced Eddie - so that was pretty cool - but probably lost on those that never saw the event live - but now everyone could enjoy the humor

This leads me to wonder if the other Hill House edition boxes were numbered as well. My Anansi Boys and American Gods came without boxes, so I don't know what they looked like.

Thanks for the heads up. I have been trying to stay off eBay, but I jumped on as soon as I saw your post.

I've been looking for a copy at a reasonable price for a long time. It may not be mint, but I'm guessing you won't even be able to tell once it's on a bookshelf.

I was an early subscriber to the Hill House Editions.

The lettered of A Screenplay came in a more elaborate dark navy/black box. I have both the numbered and lettered editions. I tried to attach an image, but as I am new here, it appears that I am not allowed to do so.

The numbered edition of American Gods came in a plain cardboard box with the title and number on it, whereas the lettered came in an elaborate case with a marble door.

Anansi Gods didn't come in a box. Unless I threw it out because it was just a plain cardboard thing.

That's a great deal. If they're from Pete hopefully the box is included. Neil had a nice blurb on his blog about the current humble bundle. There's a link to his interview in the nerdist as well. I was a little shocked by this part:

And collectors do want these titles. Gaiman said he occasionally comes across them at signings and when he asks how much was spent to acquire them, he learns a ridiculous amount of money was invested. The Duran Duran book and Ghastly Beyond Belief were among Gaiman’s first few books and are up there in price. Gaiman said, “I went on Amazon last night–I was just curious–and it looks like you can get copies of Duran Duran in paperback from about $100 in really bad condition up to about $500 or $600, and the hardback copy, of which there were only about a dozen, would set you back about $4,500.”

Had no idea there were so few copies of the HC Duran Duran. Now if I can only get my copy signed...

My Anansi Boys came in a plain brown box, but as it was bought on the secondary market I dont know if that was how it was issued, or not. I dont recall ever having seen a picture of either AG or ABs box. It would be great if these did include the box, but to be honest at that price I am not too worried.

As John Scalzi posted on his blog,
"...
Fortunately, there’s now a “Neil Gaiman Rarities” eBook Humble Bundle (which, at the time of this writing, is on its last day — pick it up here if you see this within 24 hours of this post’s publication), and Neil stuck in the bio as part of the bundle. As soon as I saw that it was in there, I slapped down my money (more than the $15 required to unlock the tier that included the bio, I’ll note) and made a beeline to download the pdf version.

$20 unlocks over 20 titles:
This rare books bundle just got rarer. We dug up more Gaiman artifacts for your reading pleasure! Name your price for Adventures in the Dream Trade (essays, poems, lyrics & original AMERICAN GODS blog), Gods & Tulips (controversial 1993 speech, an essay on running signings, & a speech on comics), Free Speeches (speeches by Neil, Frank Miller, & others), Being An Account of the Life and Death of the Emperor Heliogabolous (24 hour comic, written & drawn by Neil Gaiman), and Ghastly Beyond Belief (Neil's rare & never republished second book of oddball quotes). If you pay more than the average price, you'll also get Sweeney Todd & Other Stories (Neil's lost, unfinished, never republished graphic novel with Michael Zulli), Angels & Visitations (first collection of prose fiction, non-fiction, & poetry), Day of the Dead (fully annotated Babylon 5 script), An Honest Answer & Other Stories (Bryan Talbot's collaborations & Dave McKean too), Feeders & Eaters with Mark Buckingham (Neil's collaborations with Mark Buckingham, including a comic about Alan Moore), Neil Dreams (short comics of dreams, by and about Neil, done by & with Rick Veitch), and the two controversial UK comics anthologies Outrageous Tales From The Old Testament (controversial 80s comics anthology. Neil nearly sent one publisher to prison. Alan Moore, Dave McKean, Dave Gibbons & more), Sculpture Stories with Lisa Snellings (short stories & sculptures), Blood Monster with Marlene N. O'Connor (a short story about monsters & the people who make them), A Fall of Stardust with Charles Vess (a short story set in wall, with never before reproduced illustrations by Charles Vess, and three poems set in STARDUST), and Seven Deadly Sins (controversial 80s comics anthology. Neil does sloth. Alan Moore does lust), which also feature contributions from Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons, Dave McKean, Bryan Talbot and more. If you pay $15 or more, you'll ralso receive Duran Duran (Neil’s never republished first book, ridiculously expensive second hand), Love, Fishie (poems by Neil & Maddy Gaiman, a privately printed gift for his 42nd birthday), A Little Gold Book of Ghastly Stuff (out of print & collectible book of short fiction, essays, poems, many never reprinted), and Manuscript Found In A Milk Bottle (never before reprinted short story with brand new intro).

I just got my amazon replacement for the first unsigned "signed" sleeper. And that was unsigned too - so don't feel bad shac - not just you. Although the third time I ordered from book depository and ended the Amazon fun.

Amazon.ca is being the weird Amazon.ca again. They're telling me they can't find the item in question and should they keep trying? No, I ordered it because I didn't want it, obviously.

TL;DR: no Sleeper yet and I might not even receive it.

I spoke with them yesterday regarding my second unsigned copy received - and the person said they'll be taking the order page down until resolved and they look into the matter - which is exactly what they did - I guess we can make a difference. They said it might take a week until they figure it out - once they do then the order page will be back up.

In the meantime I just cancelled/returned mine and requested a refund. Then I went and ordered a copy from the book depository - they had them listed in stock and it was actually a few bucks cheaper.

Awesome!!!!! Mine was just a numbered. Apparently there is no difference between the lettered and limited at all, but still that's a fantastic one to have received

Did yours show any sign of the 'spotting' on the cover that was mentioned? Mine didnt and was in perfect condition.

In case anyone is interested, I did get an email regarding pre-ordering a signed copy of the PB of Trigger Warning (and potentially winning a personalized tweet from Neil). Go HERE (http://www.oblongbooks.com/NeilGaiman) to see the info.
