These pre-signed books are most likely aimed at entry level Gaiman collectors such as myself. I like his books but I don't collect the limited editions. There's the space limitation and other writers whose works I like a whole lot more. These signed books are perfect; it's a 100% genuine signature at issue price. I'll be picking up the book, why not get a signed one if the option is there?

Now I just need to find a store that has both The View... and City of Mirrors to save on postage.

(My messages are being released days later by a moderator, so you'll probably not see this, or you'll see it too late.)

Thanks Patrick for letting me know - only 10 months of waiting until the event comes around. Just bought my pair of VIP tickets - row D. Now maybe I can finally get my HC Duran Duran signed...

I don't get it. There already is an illustrated edition. If it were a signed/limited than that would make sense.

Gaiman has another edition of American Gods coming out later this year. It'll combine AG and Anansi Boys in one.

So let's take a guess...

a US first printing
a UK first printing
a presigned US edition
a Goldsboro super limited UK first edition (with sprayed edges!)

Then, a year later, an illustrated edition by Chris Riddell and a special Book Day edition...

did I miss anything? :)

While this does sound interesting- I'd love to have a proper, grown up, full-blown novel (preferably an American God's book, but I'll take whatever). Was the last one... Anansi Boys over a decade ago? "Ocean", I know, but- I don't count it as the kind of book I'm talking about.

Peter Schneider, who was the owner of the now defunct 'Hill House publishing', is currently selling off unsigned copies of the illustrated short-story 'Melinda' at an exceptionally low price.

The book itself is fairly short (thats probably why they call it a short story!),but the illustrations are excellent. Its 60 pages, but with only a line or two of text on most pages.

At this price($12!) its a bit of bargain, even unsigned.
There were only 1000 signed copies released, plus 200 unsigned that were for promotional purposes - and it is some of these 200 being sold.

Becca found this one out - took me a few days to find an actual link

Looks like it'll be released by Harper Collins a month later:

Wow - that's great news. Mine are both in transit - so I hope that I continue the streak. Interestingly from Petes description:

copies of MELINDA printed. One thousand of those copies included a signed and numbered tip-in page, with the signatures of Neil Gaiman and Dagmara Matuszak. Two hundred copies (not including the tip-in page) were printed for use as publicity copies. Out of those two hundred copies, 130 remain. These 130 copies are now being made available for sale to Ebay buyers. Each and every copy is in perfect and unread condition.

The signed copies were sold at a price of $95. We are making these unsigned (but available nowhere else) copies at a price of $23.00.

Now the first batch he had listed 129 copies sold - of the 130 noted above. Then a new listing was added this morning - for that 130th copy (must've been the one Becca got) and that seems to be it - all 130 copies sold. Most bought 1-2 copies - there were a few buyers that ordered 5 to 20 copies. Will be curious to see how many here get numbered/signed copies and if anyone gets an unsigned copy. If so does it have anything to do with when order was placed? Who knows how Pete pulled them together to ship. Mine were part of the early group - first 15 ordered and mine was on the 22nd - there was a scattered few on the 21/22/23 - about 20 more copies

I assume those that got theirs already were in these first groupings...so curious to see how the signed copies associate with when ordered and if there'll be any unsigned copies we see...

It is a little odd that these copies are coming signed and numbered. Are they also coming with the numbered envelopes? I ordered two more myself to go with the one I already had, which includes the envelope. I was just planning to give them to my kids.

They did not come with the envelope. Also, it is worth noting that they are not signed by the illustrator. I believe the original numbered run was double-signed by Gaiman and the illustrator whereas these copies only have Gaiman's signature tipped in.

Had not heard anything about the envelope - I too have my one copy w envelope. Does seem odd that these are low numbers as well - in the 200's. I have #59

obviously Pete did not have the time to go through all 130 copies to check before shipping. Maybe in a week he will find a box with all of the envelopes?

My signed copy (with envelope) was only signed by gaiman - dagmara did not sign these - I'm pretty sure. I've never seen one on eBay signed by both - they've only been signed by Neil. Unless someone has a copy signed by both - but I double checked my copy

I think you're right. I did some more research on the original release, and it wasn't double-signed. Only by Gaiman. I had previously stated that I thought the original release was double-signed; I apologize for the misinformation.

OxCrimes - 130 limited edition copies (1-100 for sale to the public, i-xxx given to contributors) -- each author's story is preceded by a author page where a signed bookplate is attached. Never saw an anthology done like this before. I know some folks don't like bookplates, but think it is kinda neat.

After years of looking, I have finally managed to track down a copy of this - the book that accompanied the online 'Calendar of Tales' project that Neil undertook with blackberry a few years back.

http://i1149.photobucket.com/albums/o594/Paul_Masters/20160827_195201_zpslxovu6fn.jpg

http://i1149.photobucket.com/albums/o594/Paul_Masters/20160827_195248_zps8qweftw3.jpg

Each story has 2 pieces of artwork - one as a 'header' for the associated month on the left hand page, and the second an illustration for the tale, on the right hand page. The story itself is printed on a translucent sheet that sits between the two.

Heres some of the art:

http://i1149.photobucket.com/albums/o594/Paul_Masters/20160827_195656_zpsllmdacqv.jpg

http://i1149.photobucket.com/albums/o594/Paul_Masters/20160827_195620_zpszzwu4brb.jpg

I dont really know much more about the book itself though and wondered if anyone else had any more information? I dont think it was ever for sale, but a copy was given to all contributers and I think a few more were used as prizes, but I wonder how many copies exist?

Incidentally, the website for this project can still be found at: http://www.acalendaroftales.com/

Here you can read all the stories (and listen to audio readings), see the art and download a PDF copy of the book (which is not quite the same layout as the actual book)

That hardcover was originally signed something like ten years ago, and someone else had brought it to Neil to sign. Up until that time, Neil hadn't even known that there was a hardcover (the publisher went bankrupt within days of the book's publication and never paid him). But seeing that copy prompted Neil to find one for his own collection. I know that he's seen some others since then, so your copy wouldn't be the third but it would likely still be in the single digits because these are quite scarce.

Nice back story - always good to hear about these items. Looking forward to seeing what other Gaiman items you have.

Hmm. I basically have all of his books in 1st edition UK and US hardcovers (or paperback if no hardcover available), all signed, plus signed proofs of most of his books, plus many individual comics and all graphic novel collections, all signed. I have the entire original Sandman issues (including error variants), and the recent Sandman Overture (all variants), with each issue signed too. UK and US first editions of Good Omens, double-signed. Plus a first draft manuscript of Mr. Punch signed. All the audiobooks and DVDs or Blu Rays, signed. If there's anything in particular you want to see, let me know. My obsession with collecting books by my favorite authors is to have signed first editions, obviously.

Probably my favorite items, for personal reasons, are the various copies of The Ocean at the End of the Lane. Several years earlier I'd won a charity auction for which the prize was that he would name a character in his next novel after me (this was at Worldcon in Montreal, where Neil was GOH). When he later signed the UK and US editions for me, he wrote an inscription relevant to that in each book, i.e., that I'm sort of but not really in there. Attached is an image of the US first edition, with the inscription prompted by my wife saying to him that he should really have named a rotting corpse after me. Originally he'd said he was going to name the opal miner who suicided after me, but he chose to leave that character nameless. Naming a character after me made it unusual because the other male characters (including the narrator) are unnamed. The proof and the limited edition have my last name misspelled but the error was caught before the UK and US first editions went to press.

Another favorite, again for personal reasons, is that Neil signed his introduction to The Collected Stories of Roger Zelazny: Volume 3: This Mortal Mountain. I'd co-edited those six volumes, assembled all the published and previously unpublished stories, essays, and poems, and wrote Zelazny's biography plus the story notes and annotations. I eventually got all the writers who wrote introductions or essays to sign their contributions, and the artist Michael Whelan signed each volume too.

Chris, sounds like you have quite a collection. Can you tell me more about the error variants on the original Sandman comics? Thanks.

#8 was supposed to have an introduction by editor Karen Berger titled "The Stuff That Dreams Are Made of", but it was changed before publication to exclude that, and instead an editorial by publisher Kahn, common to all issues that month, was printed. They later did print a few issues with the Berger editorial but omitted the copyright page information. So that was a planned variant but also an error variant. It's rare with only a few hundred copies printed.

#18 has an error variant in which the first several panels are in blue ink instead of yellow.

#19 error variant has pages 18 and 19 out of order such that pages 18 and 20 faced each other.

#11 also has some misprint but I can't recall what it was. I have the misprint and correct issues, and glancing at them just now, I can't spot the difference but there is one.

#50 was available as a regular and also a signed limited issue.

Those are all of the variants that I recall for the original Gaiman Sandman issues. For Sandman Overture, they had as many as 8 variants for some issues.

Chris

Scratch what I said about Sandman #11. There was no variant. I have two signed copies of #11 because one came unsigned as an extra when I purchased something else, and I later got Neil to sign it. I'd forgotten why I had it. I've got over 20 signed duplicates of various Sandman, Dreamhunters, Overture, 1602, and Eternals. At some point I'll need to get rid of them.

I had a look through my copies and the only variant I have is #19 with page 18 and 20 facing each other. Never noticed or knew about it until now. For #50 I have a version with a black cover but it isn't signed. Different cover though to the one with the artwork.

I had a look through my copies and the only variant I have is #19 with page 18 and 20 facing each other. Never noticed or knew about it until now. For #50 I have a version with a black cover but it isn't signed. Different cover though to the one with the artwork.

Yes, that's the platinum issue. I'd forgotten about that one. So there were actually 3 of that issue -- regular cover, platinum cover, and signed limited edition using the regular cover.

Did anyone post about the new book Troll Bridge and is there a signed copy link anywhere??

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/neil-gaimans-troll-bridge-neil-gaiman/1123155311;jsessionid=C2535C8DA14DB60C5221BAA6E22A 4F81.prodny_store02-atgap08?ean=9781506700083&st=EML&sourceId=L000021820

Here are the uk and us editions

This one from book depository is from headline and priced slightly more:

http://www.bookdepository.com/Troll-Bridge-Neil-Gaiman/9781472244529

Book depository also has the dark horse book:

http://www.bookdepository.com/Neil-Gaimans-Troll-Bridge-Neil-Gaiman-Colleen-Doran/9781506700083?ref=grid-view

The publication date is the same for both books - 4 October, and the listed page numbers the same. So those are both editions - one is the UK (headline) edition and dark horse is the US release.

The list price of the U.K. Book is a few $$ more than the us edition. Which one are people ordering?

Check out this page from book depository - you can search Gaiman (and all other authors) and list publication date as newest to oldest - and it'll list all upcoming books too:

http://www.bookdepository.com/search?searchTerm=neil%20gaiman&searchSortBy=pubdate_high_low&page=2

This is page 2 - but there'll be several illustrated HC from AG works - both AG and Anansi boys as well as two AG novellas - these have been in other anthologies - but never in stand alone books. All 4 share the same artist too.

I love the look of the new artwork on the AG related books. reminds me a little of Dave Mckean's style. I dont usually pick up variations on trade editions, but I might get this set.

The next new book is actually a book of poetry, due out in December.

It is really quite heavy due to that hefty marble door. The loveliest lettered edition box I've ever seen or purchased.

The Odd is a great edition - mine arrived last week. I know a few people criticise how many of Neils book Chris is illustrating at the moment, but personally I really like his style and for books like Odd his style really goes well with the story.

I also picked up another nice Neil-related item from Chris this week....will post a pic soon

Earlier in the month Chris Riddell visited 'The House of Illustration' gallery in London. During the afternoon he took over their Instagram account and on twitter they asked people for suggestions of things Chris could sketch. They then streamed video of Chris drawing some of the selections.

I made a suggestion - and it was one of the ones that they used.

Here is a video of the live drawing: https://www.instagram.com/p/BKGg1e5B63S/

And then, after a couple of cheeky emails to Chris, a lady from the gallery emailed me and asked for my address....and over the weekend this arrived:

https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/14441027_10155206362028362_3236688892469196461_n.j pg?oh=aaa72333e8c12564736e84dc6b6e21b6&oe=587366EE

As a big fan of Chris, getting hold of an original drawing (and a neil related one at that) was a huge buzz!

I saw that too :-)
The rest of the email was about a hunt for an editor, and it sounds like they want some bonus content of interviews with people about the show (both celebrity fans, and possible actors from the show). It also mentioned then asking the collaboraters to sign the lettered edition, so that might be something very interesting.

"SEEKING EDITOR FOR UPCOMING DR. WHO NOVELLA

Are you a fan of Dr. Who?

Gauntlet and Borderlands Press will collaborate next year in publishing Neil Gaiman’s “Nothing O’Clock,” a Dr. Who novella. The novella has never appeared in printed form, just as an eBook. We will be publishing a hardcover signed limited edition signed by Neil Gaiman.

We need an editor for “Nothing O’Clock.” We will try to get bonus material directly from Neil Gaiman, so that’s not what the editor will be asked to do.

What we’d like to do is present tributes from some of those who have appeared in Dr. Who as well as celebrity fans of Dr. Who.

Those whom the editor would contact could write their own short tribute or agree to a ten-minute interview by the editor. Those contributing tributes would be asked to sign JUST the lettered edition of the book (52 tipsheets).

We need someone with experience in contacting celebrities (such as fans of Dr. Who, like Patrick Stewart) or those who have appeared in the series (David Tennant and John Barrowman, for example).

This would be the sole function of the editor. We hope to get commitments from those providing tributes prior to December 20th so we can include their names when we list the book for 2017. We wouldn’t need the interview or written piece until March 2017, just a commitment.

We could either pay the editor (dependent on who agrees to contribute tributes) in cash or books from both Gauntlet and Borderlands Press.

If you are interested in applying for this position please send a pitch (with your experience and how you plan to tackle getting in touch with those who would provide tributes) to info@gauntletpress.com. In the subject mention “Dr. Who Editor.” Remember, it is essential that the editor be able to contact those we want to provide tributes for the book.

Depending on how many applications we receive we hope to make our decision within one week of sending out this newsletter.

If you don’t feel you are right for this position, but you know someone who you believe is (someone who works for a Dr. Who site, for instance), feel free to forward this to anyone who might have the credentials to edit the book. ."

It means that in Barry Hoffman's mind Barry Hoffman is always right. He talked shit on other publishers for doing anniversary editions of books that already have S/Ls. He then did a S/L of a Clive Barker book that already has a S/L out. With this book though, it really doesn't matter a lot of us have already read the story in print format and own it in our collections. He said there was no print format and by God, that means there was no print format and we're all just delusional.

That really IS a pretty book. I don't normally collect script books, but took a chance on this years ago on a Subpress 50% off sale, and once I got it was very glad I did. I always wished they (or anyone else) would do one of Gaiman's short story collections in this manner with these materials. Now, that I wouldn't cry so much about shelling out $200 for. So, if any of you really savvy Gaiman collectors here (you know who you are) happen to see a deal on a set- can you please post the info here? It would be appreciated. If it's a good deal, I'll probably bite. I really love all four of these stories. Here's the Book Depository link, which is, alas, not discounted enough to get me to pull the trigger:

That's the best price I have seen so far to get the books sent to the US. I'm actually holding off until we get closer to Black Friday. I'm sure that Book Depository will have some sort of coupon code that will make it worth purchasing.

I am usually against all of these reprints of books I have a million copies of, but I am thinking of getting these as well. I think all 4 will look nice on the shelf together. I'm just going to be patient. If a better deal comes up, then I will probably get them.

Yes. I was just coming here to mention this....

I was speaking to Daniel on facebook and he confirmed there are going to be signed editions available at some point, as both he and Neil have already signed the pages for them. He doesnt know any more about that yet though, so I am trying to find out from the publisher.

I saw on Daniel's FB page (where he posted a Twitter link . . . ) that Foyles has/had signed copies available. I checked their website and nothing was there.

Pictures be here. (https://twitter.com/headlinepg/status/796401600776511488)

Yesterday my last two books arrived from Book Depository. The illustrations remind me quite a bit of some of Dave McKean's older art. I really need to thoroughly look at all the books - lots of art to check out.

I was in London yesterday and went into the Foyles store and picked up double-signed copies of all 4 books. The lady there didnt know when/if they would appear on their website - sadly I didnt have funds (or bag space) to pick up any spares, but they seemed to have plenty so it may be worth contacting the store direct.

I also heard that the London Forbidden Planet store were selling signed copies, so it may be worth keeping an eye on their website too.

Incidentally, the reason I was in London was to go and see Dave Mckean. He did a mult-media 'presentation' of his new graphic novel 'Black Dog - The Dreams of Paul Nash', which was very good indeed (and afterwards there was a q/a session focussing on the work of Paul Nash, and on Daves approach to the book.

I got to meet and chat to Dave afterwards and he kindly signed and sketched in my copy of Black Dog and also in my 'Alchemy of Mirrormask' book (in which he sketched a picture of Valentine). A very nice - and very talented - guy.

Well you can order most of the books from Foyles - the signed set. I just called this morning - from US - 011 - 44 - 20 7437 5660

I followed the prompts until I could be connected to a live store - I chose the main store. Spoke to the guy and placed an order for the signed copies. I think he quoted me about 12 pounds for shipping to NorCal. So I will see if this all goes through and when the books arrive. I think all of the stores might have some signed stock - so you might have to call around if any are sold out

Alternatively you can email them direct - this was my response this morning:

Dear Chad
Thank you for your email.

We do have some of these signed editions in stock at our Charing Cross Road shop, if you send an email to fiction@foyles.co.uk they will be able to check the availability and process this order for you.
Kind regards,
Matt

Are the signatures on a tipped in sheet of some kind? If so, is there any notation that is a "special signed edition", or anything like that?

They have an extra title page tipped in, which has been signed by both. So you get a signed page then the next page is an identical unsigned title page!
Nothing on the book itself denotes it is signed other than the foyles 'signed edition' sticker they put on.
(But they are not charging any extra for the signed editions)

Riddle me this y'all.

Thinking again of seriously selling my Matched Hill House set of Gaiman's books. My wife and I haven't been on a vacation without my daughter since she was born. She's six now. We really need one. However, I would not entertain getting anything less than $4000. Preferably more.

My question is is this feasible and and if so, anyone interested?

Keep in mind my set is not only complete but it has a few unique elements to it. On Anansi Boys I have what may be the only or at least one of very few that has a double slipcase that's holds both the book in it's slipcase and the journal. Also I have the matching HarperCollins limited of Neverwhere. Same number. Not sure how many full sets there are with the matching Neverwhere exist. Since I know Harper made an effort to contact and pick up the bill for the people left hanging by Hill House's adrupt departure from this plane. But how many people were they able to actually contact? Jennifer Brehl at Harper did a gallant effort to make those happen, but how many were they able to actually connect with. Plus it's a low numbered set, #47.

Am I crazy? Or do I have any interest?

Unfortunately I think you might be a bit crazy (sorry). I'm guessing most people here have some or all of the books. I once picked up a same numbered set of AG, Anansi boys, good omens screenplay for about $600 total several years ago - and I turned those around. Most AG sell for around $450 and that's typically the highest priced book. I sold an anansi boys recently for just $100. Everything else typically falls in between - many are listed higher but don't sell. I can't see the desire to pay for a matching set at that price - even with the rarity of the set. Do you also have those extra items from AG? Those individual signed stories that Neil put together himself? If so that would definitely increase the value.

You might want to try and list on eBay as an auction with a BIN of $4000 and possibly set a reserve at your lowest possible mark - ? $3000? And realistically gauge the desire on the market.

I'm with Chad. If you could find that one buyer out there that wants to start collecting Gaiman and would love to get a complete matching set of all of the Hill House books and all of the extras at once, you might be able to sell it for a decent amount. But a lot of the copies of AG and AB go unsold on eBay for just a few hundred bucks a piece, and as Chad pointed out, most collectors probably already have copies of most of the items. It's not like a set of The Dark Tower, which commands a lot of cash. I just can't see you getting anywhere near $4000 for the set.

any way someone could list the full Hill House set plus identifying all the extras?

I have claimed a number of them over the years but would like to see how close i am.

What I think has really impacted the Gaiman Hill House market over the past few years is the availability of overstock/leftovers from the Hill House implosion.

DreamHaven Books is one of em. I have seen DreamHaven Books sell so many copies of the Hill House Anansi Boys over the past few years for such cheap prices that I felt like he had a direct connect to the Chinese printer. More Probably it is just that very few copies of Anansi Boys sold before HH went under and Dreamhaven got his hands on the whole stack.

I remember buying a copy of Melinda plus envelope off of ebay for a little less than market price about 4 years ago. (edit: looked it up and it seems i paid $110) Then just recently i had the chance to get a signed numbered copy for a song due to the notification posted on these very boards!

I just haven't seen Gaiman Hill House keeping their value due to these special circumstances.

Hell I think i even have 3 copies of American Gods. So if anyone is looking for one... :D

There were lettered editions of each of those, of course.

With Anansi Boys there was the notebook and the novel in the double slipcase, and separately a special preview chapbook with text and illustrations, also numbered. I think you're indicating this but the way you wrote it, it sounds like you mean the notebook = chapbook, inside the doubled slipcase. The Anansi Boys chapbook was issued well before when the book was under its many delays. It was numbered but not signed, but I got mine signed later.

A framed, limited Melinda edition painting, that was given to some subscribers, signed by Gaiman and the artist, matching numbers.

"The Emperor" limited edition chapbook (mapmaker story deleted from American Gods). Matching numbers and signed.

Double-chapbook "Only the Gods Are Real: A Guide to the Gods in Neil Gaiman's American Gods" and "Neil Gaiman's American Gods: An Astonishingly Incomplete Bibliography" Matching numbers and signed.

It happens that I have a spare marble case for the lettered American Gods. I've been wondering what to do with it. The drawer wouldn't move and so a replacement was sent to me.
