Twin Peaks! Twin Peaks! ::jumps with joy::

I've always been so fond of this series that I even had my very own 'Twin Peaks fan club' when I was in the University. (Full disclosure: it was a 2-member club  Everyone else thought we were crazy.)
I liked the idea that nothing and no one in the series was what it/them seemed to be at first.

Also, IIRC, it was also one of the first non-soap series that were shown in Russia - before that, we were shown only "Santa-Barbara" (you would not believe how many cats were named "Mason" in honor of one of the characters ) and several South American soaps (e.g. A Escrava Isaura).

Jean, great to see you back in these polls. Didn't see your comments the last few weeks or so...
have been very busy, and my mind on other things, what with bearmother in hospital and bears there with her all the time

then again, bears, like alindas, never watch any television...

Only watched the first two episodes of Twin Peaks, but if the rest are as good, then it easily gets my vote. I mean I love Angel, but...bloody hell, is Twin Peaks brilliant!

I liked both, but I have to go with Angel. I was really into that show.

I went with Twin Peaks, I thought Angel lost it in the last season - the highlight of the entire series was when the gang travelled to Lorn's world  But still, TP because it was so out there.

Angel was actually a good show. Twin Peaks was one of those that everyone just thought was good because it was so quirky and out there.

This is completely untrue. I watched it this summer and loved it up until a couple episodes into the second season. The last couple of episodes really sucked though. I thought it was innovative and original, and it's over a decade after it aired. Easily one of my favorite series.

I feel Angel was much more consistently good than Twin Peaks was. And - I'm a fan of neither really.
Twin Peaks had it's moments, but honestly, IMO, they were few and far between.

In some ways, it was not so good. It was innovative in its "quirkiness" -- that is, in defying convention, but I don't always appreciate art that is unconventional just for the sake of being unconventional. This show didn't work as conventional drama does; some shows do offer meaningful character development beyond what we got here. However, I do think that many of the television conventions which it subverted really are mostly negative. And (crucially) I think the series also was about more than just these concepts of the medium; that it did, on yet another level, have themes relevant to the human condition.

Anything involving David Lynch is going to have a huge film school fan base just because it is David Lynch, but I think Twin Peaks stands on it's own.

I still liked Angel more, though.
