Voted GITS, even though I never watched it. Only because I loathe Nip Tuck. :)

I was going to do exactly that, but thought it wasn't fair!

I think Nip Tuck is a great series. Gruesome and deep.

*GASP* This may be the only thing I've ever seen us disagree on.

But I mainly love Nip/Tuck because I'm totally hot for Dr. Christian Troy. ::hump::

Jean, Nip/Tuck is currently on Sony Entertainment Russia - it's called "Части тела" here. The channel's web site is http://www.set-russia.com/
Perhaps you have that channel in your part of the city, too - at least, it is available as part of the regular TV package in Kupchino.

thank you love; the problem is, I never watch TV. If I know that something is very, very good, I just download it and watch on my wife's laptop. I will read the comments in the threads, and probably find something to interest a bear; but with the impending Lost watch, I am afraid my appetite for serials and series will be sated...

Oh, I see.
Well, I like Nip/Tuck (voted accordingly) but it does have its share of gruesome details, so I cannot actively recommend it or say that it is so exceptionally good that those can be overlooked.
Myself, I'm fine with those kinds of things (I also like police procedurals, and "Bones" is one of my favorite series, as are "CSI"s, so no wonder).

GITS. Hands down. I found Nip/Tuck to be very repetitious.

mae
11-09-2010, 06:11 AM
Jean, you should give Nip/Tuck a watch. It's a really good drama series. There's gruesomeness, sure, but it's a lot more than that. Try the first few episodes of Season 1.

Jean
11-09-2010, 06:24 AM
I don't mind gruesomeness, I am not sure I will have the time, what with the Lost rewatch and things... but I will be reading these new threads very attentively, and sure will remember what people say, so maybe later -

You NEED To watch Six Feet Under and In Treatment if you haven't. I think Bears will like those shows best.

mae

We'll get to them in due time, but yes Six Feet Under is pure art. A masterpiece of any media.

i watch only a little tv too - i find a series and stick with it. I find i dont really have time for all the series i want to watch. At the moment i have 7 different series i am watching, and with internet browsing and reading....... well you get the picture.

I cant vote in this one either as i have not seen them yet, although i also fancied Nip/tuck (that may have been Julian mcmahon though??#)

I'm surprised Nip/Tuck isn't ahead. It's a series that should appeal to the twisted nature of our membership :)

I've seen bits and pieces of Nip/Tuck, but it's never really grabbed me. Now, GITS may be animated, but it's one of the most brilliantly clever, philosophical and headache inducing shows I've watched. With a large amount of action, too. If ever I wanted a piece of serious, thought provoking and truly believeable science fiction, GITS would usually be what I would put on. Great stuff! Didn't think it would get quite as many votes, really. Crossing my fingers it gets past the first round!

mae

I agree, DoctorDodge. it's unfortunate, to me at least, that these two chanced to meet right off the bat. Two quality series. It's telling they're close.

Well that's the odd thing, I love stuff like Evil Dead 2, Zombieland, Dusk Till Dawn, Dead Set etc because it's out and out, over the top gore and that I can handle. Realistic stuff like operations or broken bones however, grosses me out.

Haha! I feel her pain, I wasn't so bad when he operated on Ben, but when he was going to chop Boone's leg off...ugh!! It makes me all shivery just thinking about it

Definitely Nip/Tuck for me. Especially the first two seasons. I was passionately in love with some surgery scenes. But then the show went to a different way.

mae
11-11-2010, 09:02 AM
I agree, Melike. The first two or even three seasons were amazingly addictive. I watched through the first several season DVD sets in a matter of weeks. I couldn't stop myself :) The latter seasons dipped a little but were still pushing the envelope. I was sad to see it air its final episode though.
