Matt

I wanted to establish this thread to list the things that set this site apart from others. It will be a nice one-shop-stop for those looking to compare and decided. So here we go.

What sets TheDarkTower.com apart

Community--the heart of the site...Palaver message board

Our administration and members believe in community and open discussion. On our message board you will find unique topics that are not covered anywhere else, in most cases. All organized in a way that makes it easy to browse and find information.

Dark Tower Trivia and Games

Community and dedication is what really sets us apart

Site pages dedicated to Stephen King and this amazing series

SK News (http://www.thedarktower.org/news)---Comic News (http://www.thedarktower.org/comictower)--Tower Connections (http://www.thedarktower.org/towerconnections)--Fan Art (http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=507)
and so much more

Collectors World

We value our collectors very much and are dedicated to creating resources for everyone interested and collecting Stephen King books and related memorabilia

Collections Photo Gallery- TheDarkTower.com wants to see images of your collections. We have provided a gallery to upload your images and display them on the site. Images are randomly generated to populate our Collections page (http://www.thedarktower.org/collections/) on the site

DTbay (http://www.thedarktower.org/DTbay.php)

Admin are fans

The administration of this site visits and interacts every day. We all feel like it is very important to be on site and answer member questions and concerns as quickly as possible. Please check out our About Us (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/../aboutus) page

A fan site has no greater asset than its members and they should be well taken care of.

Other fun stuff:

A member gallery (http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/index.php) where you can upload and host all your images. Please feel free to share your life and happiness with us through your personal images.

Arcade (http://www.thedarktower.org/palaver/arcade.php?)--just a distraction--non Stephen King related.

Please enjoy our site and let any member of the administration know if you have any questions, comments, concerns or suggestions.

Not at all Girly--in fact, I am hoping everyone feels that way.

What makes a site great is different for everyone, but for me, this place is the best of all worlds where Dark Tower information is concerned.

That is, of course, through the dedication and hard work of all the members here. :grouphug:

A lot of people (not all) on the other SK mb seemed very smug about everything. You couldn't ask a simple question without some know it all making you feel like an idiot.

Who knows a lot is modest and stands in the shadow. :)
Those who think they know a lot however they don't make people feel idiot.

Matt

I've visited it, and don't really see how it is better. It does have more information on separate books, but in everything else we are much more interesting and better developed; and as far as books are concerned, the best minds are working on it here.

Letti
10-15-2007, 11:49 AM
I hope C... ;) Ikilled will visit us a lot and after awhile he will change his mind and he will get hooked on us. Until he is free to think that others are better, don't you think?

These guys have been working on this site so much Ikilled.. I am sure day by day you will see it.

The great thing is there are choices. More is better than less. Try them all, and most importantly-contribute! Wherever you go, whatever you like, try to add value, not detract.

I checked out that charnel house site. It's pretty cool and has a lot of info, but it is not interactive.

I didn't get the impression that the guy running it would try to stealth bomb his website address into messageboards by pretending to be a third party.

Based on the My Location for IKIlledthecrimsonking I would think that is not his/her site. I personally know the owner of Charnelhouse - he is a good friend that I met in bangor in 1997 at the first Annual SKEMERCon.

I don't think he ever intended for his site to be a "fan" site where people commented. It's all about him and his book reviews. He is a talented indivual and long time King Fan. Many years ago he called me up and said "Bob, I have two tickets to the Bag of Bones signing at Betts and one is for you if you want it!" I jumped on that offer - He is an aspiring writer and has written hundereds of stories and a andful or more novels. Nothing published that I am aware of other than an internet published version of one of his novels. Personally I think his non-fiction writing is much better!

we share so much more with each other than just our love of all things king. we talk about politics, love, sex, weapons (:scared:), comics, movies, anime, cartoons (yeah i got 'panked for lumping them together ), death, and so many, many other things.

we comfort each other in times of stress and sadness. we cheer each other on in times of happiness and humour. we slap each other around when needed (and boy is it needed :)). we send each other messages when we disappear. we recognize each other's achievements.

most of all, i think we just really care about each other. and i think that doesn't just set us apart from other king fan sites. i think that sets us apart from a lot of other fan sites in general.

There's other King fan sites?
There used to be one, but it forgot the face of its father and had to be sent West.

It's not about what sets this place apart from other king sites, it's about what sets it apart from other sites, period.

and the answer is simple: The people, the admins and the atmosphere. :)

99% of other forums has some serious a*holes in them (either running the board or just spreading negativity), so far I haven't seen a single one here
Even though I am new compared to many of you, and I will probably never meet anyone from here in person ( ), I feel very welcome here, and enjoy being active even though I usually stick to the off topic forums these days

Give them a fair chance. Every once in awhile they appear. Usually they are either assimilated :borg: or move along.

i agree - norway to london shouldn't be too expensive. :orely:
my girlfriend's uncle lives there, and came over here, costing him about £15!!
Of course, he waited for the opportune moment in which prices were incredibly low - but a return flight shouldn't leave too much of a hole! :grouphug:

May I reccommend a trip into Camden? There's an awesome little pub called - The World's End that I've tested (briefly) and found it to be pretty cool.
The Intrepid Fox is another which has amazing reviews, and looks fucking awesome - although it's only just been re-opened, and I'm not 100% sure about where it is...
I'm sure there are some pretty good pubs scattered around, especially in London! If we're speaking clubs aswell as pubs, anywhere but The Metro...

Darkthoughts
03-09-2009, 03:39 AM
Brice  We'd need at least 6 months to hit up every pub!

Never been to The Metro - I used to go clubbing in London alot though - Ministry, Bagley's, Maximus (no longer there :( )...I've been to Cream up your way too ;)

Brice

Yes, they are run by people who haven't found this one yet.

HOW TRUE!

i used to run the yahoo group King's Closet.... which was an attempt to replace Jon Rietans old collector's group when he closed it.

once i found the distant , now deceased cousin of this site... the old DT.net site, I utilized my Yahoo group to point the beam to it... which in turn, was just a path of this site.
I kept King's Closet open only because it had a great links page and it pointed everyone to this site.

anyway... i discovered last week that yahoo closed it groups section... so the Closet door has finally been shut for good... but I'm not too sad, since I have the stanley hotel here, with lots of rooms, and really cool spirits to play with.

So is there any chance of you getting around to sharing some pics of The Stand files here sometime. I know you did at .net, but it's gone and we can't  anymore.
