Not a huge Hughes fan, and both Lumet and Jeunet have made films which I absolutely love - specifically 12 Angry Men and City of Lost Children. I'll have to think about this one.

Haven't seen any of Visconti's films, but I just IMDB's him and he looks like an interesting fellow. Already added a few of his films to my netflix queue.

Same here. Hoping they move on. Voted Jeunet. He and Jean-Jacques Annaud (who wasn't nominated :() are two of my most favorite contemporary French auteurs.

I had to go with John Hughes. "Why?" you may ask. Because of two films, Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Uncle Buck. Great stories and very well filmed to boot.

bears had some problem choosing between Lumet and Jeunet (the latter being my nomination), but aggravated with the fact that they love Visconti and he was bears' nominee, too...

finally voted Jeunet... very, very hard choice

Grrrrrr.

Very hard choices here. Such a range of films, styles, accomplishments, etc.

Ended up with Lumet ... I mean Serpico, Dog Day, Network, Daniel, The Verdict, Running On Empty ....

This was really hard. I was torn between Jeunet and Lumet. But I finally decided to go with Lumet.

For me it's between Lumet and Hughes. Hughes wins my vote.

In fairness... I'm totally unfamiliar with Visconti.

Because I didn't know Visconti or because I voted Hughes over Lumet?

I had to go with Lumet. A huge body of work spanning decades and he's still going even at his age. Just see Before the Devil Knows You're Dead if you want to see what I'm talking about.
