I've been avoiding starting a collection thread because I know that I'll have a hard time keeping up with it but Tom gave me the nudge I needed. This will have a lot of my wooden cases, some King books and some non-King books. Keep in mind that almost everything shown is for sale (at the right price)
I'll have to make sure that I don't post pics of my wife, kids & grand-kids!

So, I'll start out with a few pics that I already have on here..........

Drawing of the Three also had copyright issues.

This is for the Colorado Kid set of three. Two out of the three books show the artwork in the window, depending on how they're arranged.

This is a remarque in The Green Mile. Scribners logo (the flame) shows through from the other side of the page. Mark drew the chair so that it appears there is a flame coming out of a head in the electric chair.

That's some good stuff, Dick! Do you have pictures of your bookshelves as well? And do you keep all your slip/traycased books together on a shelf, or are they displayed separate from your other books?

Oh, and did you ever think (I know I know, this sounds sacrilegious) of making your own wooden case (coffin) for the S/L STAND? Or for any other S/L that came with its own slipcase?

Hi biomieg~

Don't have pics of the bookshelves yet. As a matter of fact, I'd be embarassed to post one right now. I'm so disorganized that between extra cases that haven't sold yet, & books (that the sold cases pay for) I've got books stacked 3 deep & 2 feet tall on some of them. I try to keep the King books together in one case but that doesn't necessarily work either. The bookshelves are antique and, apparently, they didn't have too many 13 inch books back then -- the shelves won't fit the taller books.

I came close to buying a S/L STAND with a damaged case in the hopes that I could repair it but it didn't work out.....they wanted more than I was willing to pay. I am planning on making a case at some point for the TALISMAN. Even though it comes with a slip case, the books & case are so light colored that I'm afraid that they'll get grimey & dirty just by being out in the air. I'm open to suggestions on what kind of design to use for it. Any suggestions?

Dick

biomieg
07-07-2010, 12:32 PM
I'd have to think about suggestions for a TALISMAN case although I'm sure this particular edition begs for some extensive engraving on the outside of the case (for example a reproduction of the delicate drawing that is shown on the title page, as seen in your photo).

Another UTD Case. This is a traycase that was made for my brother. This one (including an unopened S/L UNDER THE DOME) is definitely for sale. When it sells, ALL proceeds will go to a charitable organization he has started called the Phoenix-Fund (phoenix-fund.org). My nephew (his son) was in an accident 4 years ago, 2 weeks before he was supposed to go to West Point. He has a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) that he has never recovered from. After all the problems my brother went through, his charitable organization is helping families and victims of TBI in any way possible. If you're looking for a copy of this book, I'd be glad to sell this one.

And then, on a lighter note, another 'pride & joy'. This is a First Rackham edition of GRIMM'S FAIRY TALES' published in 1909. Not King-ey' but still a cool book. There are a lot of great illustrators out there (both living & dead) but I think Arthur Rackham is one of my favorites.

Thanks for looking.

Again, these are not King related, but I'd like to post them anyway.

First is a 1784 edition of ROBINSON CRUSOE by Daniel DeFoe. In 1784 it was published in two volumes...this is one of those two but contains the entire story that we think of today as ROBINSON CRUSOE. Originally published in 1719 (I think) thru 1722 in 3 volumes.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/706/medium/RC_1784_photo.JPG

The next is a 1790 copy of the same book (2 volumes this time). I believe this is called the First Stockdale Edition with plates designed by Stothard & engraved by Medland.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/706/medium/RC_1790.JPG

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/706/medium/RC_1790_frontis.JPG

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/706/medium/RC_1790_photo.JPG

Both of these books have been re-backed. After over 200 years, I can see why. I have the original boards ("tree-leather") for the 1784 copy that fit in the case. It's just amazing to me to hold a book that is pretty much as old as the U.S.! :scared:

Might want to keep in mind also -- If you want your books to last over 200 years, TAKE CARE OF THE BOARDS!

You know what? Simple might be best. Say a Black Enamel Slipcase like the Salem's Lot, with the silver and black lettering for the plate (gotta copy the font though) and a window like the Colorado kid for the original art on the slipcase. You make your slipcase hold the original slipcase!!

What you think?

Edit: Oh and I need your address. I'm coming to steal the "Grimms Fairy Tales". Just so you know who took it. I'm going all Tom Cruise, Mission Impossible on ya!!! LOL :ninja:

Well yeah, I thought the square window would be understood, my bad. I don't know about the pink thing though. Even though I know it'll have a finish over it I would think it would be very hard to come up with an acceotable shade and even with the finish protecting it, it could still take on that "grimey" aspect you mentioned. I thought contrasting the gray would be the way to go, but thats just MHO.

As far as your wife goes, she'd have to get past my kids first. Its like that stuff isn't even mine anymore, they horse trade in front of me as to who gets what!!!! LOL Course you can't find 'em when time comes to dust everything!!! She's a Disney-nut too? I'll get right on it!!!!

Re: the ROBINSON CRUSOE ~ they stopped issuing the 3rd volume sometime in the mid 1700's. Apparently, it was overly religious and didn't sell well. The second volume was THE FARTHER ADVENTURES OF ROBINSON CRUSOE.

I was just perusing this thread as I do from time to time (I just LOVE the craftsmanship) and I got to thinking that your finest cases (IMHO) always seem to have the cut-out for the cover art. You should make that a standard on all your cases. It also (I know it sounds contradictory) makes them more "unique" if ya catch my drift.

Ever made a case for "The Lord of the Rings"? LOL

I told you I'd neglect this thread! Since Bill & Patrick are nice enough to bump it & remind me it's here, I should probably update it a bit over the next few days.....

For anyone that's not aware, in September I had a pretty serious accident involving my left arm and a table saw (hence the avatar!) At that time, I was doing several cases for Jerads KNOWING DARKNESS through Tomas at skcollector.com. The accident has slowed me down quite a bit but I'm still able to do some building, just a lot slower than previously.

@ frik ~~ you mentioned earlier in this thread that you had 2 left hands....it just so happens that it was my left arm that was mangled....can I use your extra??? :wtf:

I've acquired a few more books that I'll get pics of soon to put up for you. In the mean time, Bill is getting his `Pride & Joy` this week (maybe Wednesday, Bill) for an early Christmas..........

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/685/medium/LOTR_Misc.JPG

The books in the pic are mine (1965 11th? edition).....his are much nicer & I believe, a 2nd Edition. He'll have to post some pics with his books.....
I also got this case out recently. It's a slightly different style than my usual...

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/685/medium/Piasta_My_Books_doc.JPG

BTW~~ I think I've got a couple of KNOWING DARKNESS display cases available for sale. They're in perfectly fine shape -- just a few blood spots on them -- but what's better than blood spots for a Stephen King Collector?? :o  Just kidding on the blood spots, I really DO have a couple KD display cases available, both sizes -- and without the blood:D

Merlin1958

For what its worth, one of the most amazing things (I think) about the cases Dick does is that they are truly custom cases, made to order. In the case (sic) of my LOTR case we e-mailed back n forth to virtually create the case design. Not only was it fun, but as the buyer you get intricately involved in the process which is pretty damn cool!!!!

Not to speak for him, but if you can provide accurate measurements and describe what you want, he can make it (within reason). And at reasonable prices for something that is high quality and superb craftsmanship. Hell, after you pay and arm & a leg for the book, why not invest a few sheckles for something nice to both protect it and display it?

I haven't even gotten my case yet, but I shiver with antici............................................ ............................pation to recieve it and finally put my books into it. I've already got another order in the wings for him for a S/L Insomnia.

Great work Dick!!!!!! And Thanks!!!!

Doing better all the time, Tom. Thanks for asking! It's pretty slow going & the docs tell me it can be up to a year later before it heals as much as it's going to. They tell me that gaining a degree or two of `flex` in the fingers each week will get it done! At least I don't have to wear the cast constantly anymore -- just wear it at nite to stretch out the fingers. Last three fingers & palm are still numb but seem to be working they're way to better! I'm just thankful I still have a hand attached to the bottom of my arm!

As you can tell, a lot of my books aren't in near as good condition as many of yours - but...I like `em

1/1 Bachman Books, S/L Farenheit 451, 1/1 Shining... I dug this box of books out of the closet the other day. I knew I had them but didn't know where they were so finding them was almost like getting a box in the mail. (Ralph - if you let me dig through your closet, I'm sure I could find something in there you've forgotten about) :pirate: :excited:

Dick, you are probably right. I'll go into "The Closet" to look for one book and turn around and go wow! I forgot I had that one. Of course I say the say same thing when I go into my garage to grab a fishing pole

Come to think of it, I've heard Karen say the same thing when she goes into her closet to get a pair of shoes. Wow! where did those come from? I didn't know I had these. (please, no one ever mention I just said that)

Glad you are recovering well. Still in my thoughts brother.

To be nice ~~ from what I've seen around these threads, if there ever was a closet I wanted to be lost in it would be Ralph's.................& if I wanted to debase-ment myself it would be at carlosdetweilers basement!!

I just now looked at this thread and all I can come up with is - WOW, which is an expression I am constantly using around here. Those cases are outstandingly beautiful. You are definitely an artist. So sorry about your accident!

Your avatar reminds me of one of my all time favorite TV shows, TWIN PEAKS! (see MY avatar).

I especially like your artist's edition of THE TALISMAN, I don't think I was even aware of it's existence.

One of these days I will ask you about making cases for two of my most cherished books.

Great books you've got there, Dick.

On a side note:

I haven't mentioned this, but your incident (and that illustration for The Survivor Type) reminds me of a very close friend of mine. He works in a cabinet shop and, one morning at the table saw a few years ago, he cut his thumb all the way clean off - as in, it flew across the shop and into the sawdust.

Long story short, they sewed it back on, he had some follow-up surgeries primarily to remove scar tissue and now it appears to work with full flex and you'd never know anything happened unless he showed you.

This is why I have confidence in your full and complete recovery.

Hey Patrick~

That spoiler really is good to hear. You can't blame them but doctors are almost as bad as lawyers when it comes to giving a straight answer to a simple question "Will I be able to use my hand again?" I understand they have to CYA nowdays but stories like yours are VERY encouraging. IMHO a substantial part of healing takes place in your mind & a few stories like that can, instead of 'raising expectations', go a long way towards giving a positive attitude.

Seriously.........THANKS!!

I've got one for you, Pixie. Just let me know when you're ready ~~

April, 2011 -- The Black Case is sold.....The stained case is still available......

I also have this one that is completed...red lining & painted a gloss black w/ silver label. It is also for the smaller edition. This one was damaged during shipping, sent back & I repaired it. In my opinion, it's none the worse for wear but I'd be glad to send close-ups of the damaged area. Since it was damaged/repaired it would be $195 (shipping within US included).

"I don't know if it is just me, but does anyone else see a screamy-melty-burning skull face on the front of Merlin's new case? It is probably just the grain of the wood, but if intentional, Dolso is even more of a genius than I previously realized. To illustrate my point I include this horrible sketch overlay... Hey, I never claimed the role of Artist! Especially with a laptop trackpad."

thegreattim ~~ No matter how much I'd like to be considered a genius, I never saw the melty face in the Firestarter case (although, after you brought it up, I can find it by looking for the 'teeth', my wife sees a 'fu-manchu' moustache over your teeth)............

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/firestartercase0011.jpg

The main thing that I was looking at was the flame shape to the left of the Title......... :onfire:

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Firestarter_Complete_1_.JPG

although, if you start LOOKING for faces, I can see one within what I saw as a flame with the mouth as a large 'O' (bottom left-ish side), a pointy nose outlined in burned wood and an eye as the 'knot in the grain with a pointy head.............. unfortunately, now that I've seen that one I can't 'un-see' it!! :scared:

A couple photos of the office/book room/catch-all room. It's actually the converted third bedroom. We tore it up & re-did it about three years ago.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Move_in_3.jpg

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Move_in.jpg

The hardwood floor has a border within a border within a border so there are actually 4 different types of wood. The desk is an old Blackjack table. There are indentations for six players around the outside plus the horseshoe shape for the dealer ~ don't really know if it's an antique or not, but it's def an unusual shape. My son sent the rug to us when he was stationed in Turkey (I've never looked but I sure hope it doesn't have a "Made in China" label on it!!)

Hey Tom --
yep, a couple bookcases but I def need a couple more. One of the problems with continually adding books but never adding any more space to keep them!!

The pile on the top right is my Grand-daughters 'collection' :fairy: :huglove:.......with "baby Donald Duck", "A is for Animal" and Winnie the Pooh books.... (although we did get her a signed "Christmas Thingy" and signed "I, Trixie, who is Dog"). Another problem I run into on this case ~~ the two bottom shelves can only hold an 8 inch book which severely limits what you can put on it.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Bookcases.JPG

Quite honestly, my books aren't in any particular order... they just went where they would fit. It took a full day of rearranging just to get the room into condition to take a few pictures... and even after that they are carefully cropped!!!! Each shelf in the tall case is double & triple stacked........

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/Bookcase.JPG

I built this shelf to fit on top of the filing cabinet........

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Bookshelf.JPG

and as you can see, I use every available inch for storage!!

Thanks for the well wishes every one -- I didn't realize how painful a bone graft was until I went thru this one! I seem to be coming along decently. Still don't have real good use of the middle, ring & little fingers but now that the weather has warmed up, my arm sure feels better! Went to Denver mid-February and I return again for another follow-up on April 15th - my second grandchild is due to arrive around the same time so I'm glad the two times coincide.

First, a couple of cases that were made for a collector here on DT.

Skeleton Crew - made for the lettered edition but all I had to take pictures of was the numbered!

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/SC_Tent_3_doc.JPG

We experimented a little on how to design the cover. These are medallions that are made of 1/8" pine, stained white, then (if they were used) would be glued to the lid...

No, my wife didn't force me into the 'flesh-sensor' but my grand-daughter just cannot understand
"WHY would you do that, Poppa Dick?" Now she's walking around with her hand cupped into a partial fist telling everyone that that's as far as she can move her fingers. You know the saying -- Some people's kids..... (or in this case 'Grandkids!)

When I put the art from Legacies up yesterday, they were all helter-skelter with one on one line, then one on a half line, then two together........Today they actually look the way I wanted them to look! So was someone nice enough to correct them? or is this one of those unsolvable, technological advances where the computer decides what it wants to do no matter what the 'owner' says? If someone helped, please let me know what you did..............

....Cook ~ The Legacies is the numbered edition (#268/500). I kind of doubt that I could afford a Lettered!!

...Sentinel ~ Yea - at least her fingers still work!! :fairy: Like you say, she has me wrapped around them! Thanks for the compliment, Kerry. I really like the S Crew case too. Actually, I've always lined my cases with felt but have experimented periodically with velvet & silk. This one is either the first or 2nd one to have velvet lining.

Thanks Bill... I know, I know -- I don't know either how my ugly mug got transformed into her!!!:huglove:

Thanks for the compliments everyone ~ Knowing you, Tom, I'm confident that you'll end up with your own copy soon!!

Harrison ~ too bad Rackham (or Dulac) isn't still around - Imagine what they could do with an SK book!! The lettering is done with a laser engraver (computer operated).

Not "King-y" but a case that turned out decently -- from what I understand, there were somewhere around 300 - 400 of these that were signed. I guess they're now selling from $1400 to $1600 each.

This is the case I made for my first edition "IT"......even though it has some scribbling in it, it's still a nice book & deserves a decent case!!

The gray portion is intended to be a sewer grate similar to what is on the front of the book...

This is one of the few books in which I've put a velvet lining instead of a felt lining...but in the bed only - the lid has felt.

Thought I needed to post something here just to get my name back up toward the top of the list............

I've posted the book before but the case I made in my spare time.........

The colored border on the sides is supposed to resemble the Marbled look of the boards. The interior engraving is the same as each signature page. The liner is the same blue as the spine of the book. I must admit, I didn't succeed very well in making the mahogany look like marble........

Well, Mr. Dolso, you have garnered quite a reputation for yourself amongst "Collectors". First, your finely crafted "custom" cases with such craftsmanship and ingenuity, to your recent "Glenn Chadbourne Artist Edition" cases which sold out in less than 72 hours. Where is "Dolso" going next? What's in store for fans? Inquiring minds want to know. Can you give us hints as to what's next? Or do we have to speculate?

Where will the "case edition" theme go next?????

Right now I'm just trying to catch up on cases that have been promised but not completed. There's a back-log of about a dozen that I need to complete. I have a few possibilities of what project to take on next - maybe cases for a shiny new book or a book with a lot of popularity?? It probably wouldn't be a Firestarter - I think I've already burned my bridges on that one (or pissed away the opportunity)! I'm reading "Chronicles of Narnia" & love it! If I knew anything about first editions of it, that's a possibility........or possibly GRR Martin? I'm always open to recommendations. You guys have something you'd like to see done?

A few years ago, my brother-in-law Joe wanted to buy a used pick-up truck.

He found one he liked in the paper and gave the owner a call. The seller started describing the virtues of the truck, and Joe inerrupted with "Let's get to the important stuff. How big is the gun rack?"

They take their private security very seriously in Texas.

About the Signatures -- I really know virtually nothing about handwriting, but it seems like when someone signs a small case 'g' with the tail going in a circle, he would also use the same style for a small case 'y'. Just seems slightly odd that the tail on the 'y' is so different than the 'g'. When I sign my last name the 'o'n' looks like a straight line & when I write anything that ends in 'o'n' it looks pretty much the same. (& no, I'm NOT comparing my signature to Kings in THAT way!)

First let me say that i hope your recovery is progressing well. You have some amazing talent. The first thing that comes to mind would be a personal request, only when you have the time and i have the funds lol.

I have a leather bound edition of the Necronomicon with an introduction by Simon. The first edition as i understand, it was limited to 666 copies; there are a few pictures in my collection thread. It is very under protected at the moment. When i first saw your slipcases and finally found your site i knew i had to get a case for it from you but then i heard of your injury and didn't want to add anymore stress/ jobs on top of what you already have.

Thanks guys -- I appreciate the compliments!! Patrick - we need to talk about a STORIES case ---

I have an extra F&SF case for sale ....... a friend of one of our members contacted me to make a case that held those Fantasy & Science Fiction mags. I ended up making that case twice. The one I have for sale is the first one. It has a couple flaws to it (hence the second case).

1) Apparently, I originally forgot how to read a tape measure and made the case about 1/16" too short -- the mags wouldn't fit into it. After removing the liner, doing a little judicious carving and replacing the felt liner with a paper liner, they now fit. This liner is acid free paper & looks ok but doesn't offer near the padding as felt does. There are also a couple spots on the inside where it isn't as close a fit as I'd like.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/685/medium/Paper_Liner_2_.JPG

2) At the same time that I needed lessons on reading a ruler, I forgot that the spine on most books/cases in the US are printed from the top down (tilt your head to the right to read it.) This case is engraved from the bottom up (head tilted to the left).

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/685/medium/F_SF_Doc.JPG

3) There is a blemish in the finish just below the 'G' in King. It is noticeable only if the light hits the case in the right (or in this case WRONG) angle. I haven't been able to get a picture of the blemish but will keep trying.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/685/medium/F_SF_For_Sale_2_doc.JPG

The case is normally $110 but since there are a couple flaws, it will be $90 plus shipping as is. If you'd like more pics don't hesitate to ask..........

I'm surprised it's been over a year since I posted anything here. I've spent this summer & spring doing the 'Salem's Lot cases and another relatively large project that hasn't been put out yet. I recently got somewhat caught up on the back-order 'honey-do' list so may have a little extra time to be on DT.

I had a Doctor visit in Denver for my arm in early August and timed that appointment so I could attend the Rocky Mountain Antiquarian Book & Paper Show. Some of you 'big city' guys have probably been to many of them but for those of us that live in the boon docks where we're lucky to have more than one chain bookstore, going to one is quite exciting !! I picked up several items (although no SK) so I guess I'll start out with a few books that, if not NEW, are at least NEW TO ME ---

This is a reprint of Stoker's "Dracula's Guest". You wonder why I'd buy this reprint........???

I think the Inscription explains it....

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/685/medium/Dracula_s_Guest_Inscription_1_doc.JPG

This is an early 20th Century production of Edgar Allen Poe by Doran, Co. It's illustrated by Edmund Dulac -In my opinion one of the best illustrator's of that time period along with Arthur Rackham (more of his soon). The book is in wonderful condition and enclosed in it's original printed cardboard box (around 100 years old) which is SCREAMING for a new protective woody.

HA! Yea- he even comes with a 6 million dollar girl, too!! (Although, she'd probably be too expensive for my tastes!) I'm sure it would be worth every penny but then, again, a Million dollars now isn't quite the same as it was in the 60's/70's. I'm not sure of the price of the Titanium in my arm but if it's anything close to the price of Platinum, I should be all set!!!

I had to look up what the ANANSI was - the little god was also in Gaimans' "American Gods" .... Haven't read the book yet but Gaiman is usually pretty darn good!

Sure, Grant - I was actually hoping someone would want one - I made an extra. The first one didn't turn out as nice as I wanted so I'll just keep it for myself & sell the best one. Just say the word & I'll get a case for you (or anyone else...)....

Hi Simon~

I just took it off for the pic. I think everyone (and their brother) has seen that DJ so thought I'd change it up a little. I was impressed with the 'photographic journey' -- most of the pictures weren't anything that special but it adds a nice touch to the book.

I'm sure I have a few newer books around somewhere too, but here's a couple of cases that I don't THINK that I've posted....

The "Carrie White" set....

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Carrie_White_and_Night_Shift_White_6_doc.JPG

The door to Drawing of the Three ------- the horizontal piece of the door are Walnut, the vertical is Hickory.
http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/DotT_doc.JPG

This one is not engraved or have a label. It fits several different books -- it will fit anything that is 9 1/2 by 6 3/8 as long as it's 1 3/4 inches or thinner. It's shown with Dead Zone but will fit Firestarter, Misery, Pet Sematary, JAS, Green Mile (Hard Back) etc. It would be no problem engraving and/or making a label for it.

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Generic_Dead_Zone_1_doc.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Generic_9_5x6_375x1_75_1_doc.JPG

These also fit most all of the above books.......

http://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Generic_Slip_9_625x6_375x1_5_18_buick_8.JPGhttp://www.thedarktower.org/gallery/data/686/medium/Generic_Slip_9_625x6_375x1_5_15_JAS_doc.JPG

Hope you like!! If you see anything you're interested in but want more info or want it more detailed (labels, engravings, spine labels, etc.) just drop me an email. It's probably best to email to info @ bookslipcase.com instead of a PM -- I don't log on here very often but lurk quite bit.........

Dick-

Beautiful work as always! The Carrie White set is great. Was there a Salem's Lot limited or gift edition case done in white too? The Drawing of the Three is F#%*ing Awesome! It reminds me of the case I always envisioned for a Limited Edition of The Shining. A wooden traycase with a metal plate on the spine with the title, but on the front you have the hotel room door with an ornate metal 217 plate. When you open it you get a dust jacket with Mrs. Massey in the tub or pulling Danny back into the room! Anyway I love the cases that represent something from the book, you knocked another one over the fence Sir!

I like the one he urinated on...

So ~ I can't find it in Bills thread at the moment. Could someone either copy the 'pissed on' post or let us know which page & post it is in his collection? I'd assume there are a few people that are REALLY wondering about those references....

There was only one other white case that I've done so far. It was a Centipede Press Limited edition 'Lot' that was done in white. Grant got that one along with his Black Gift Edition case ... Part of this White Set set was actually a mistake - a friend ordered the white case and I was supposed to be making it a white Night Shift. Unfortunately I had a senior moment & made the Carrie instead. But being a 'Carrie White' makes it sort of neat.

(You know, I used to own a restaurant that served buffet's on most of the holidays. We served baked rabbit on the Easter buffet until the parents quit bringing their kids....)

Funny you should mention the Room 217 case -- I was just thinking about it & discussing a possibility or two the other day. I'm considering some sort of double case to hold both Shining/Dr. Sleep -- any comments yea or nay from you guys?

Torben~ Yes it is completely wood. It's not completed yet, so there's no liner inside. I'm not sure what you're seeing that is leather like.

Ken

The the rose is engraved thru the black case. That way after engraving, the veins, petals, etc. are raised up and show black - the the rest of the rose is painted. I'm not a great photographer but you might be able to tell better with these pics....

Like so many here, it's fun to spend time reading through different threads. In the process of scrolling through posts, I found myself frequently returning to Dick Olson's and Rachel Readman's threads--I think they are both enormously talented individuals and I greatly appreciate their work. Over the summer, I had the opportunity to pick up a signed 1st/1st of both Carrie and The Stand from a member here. I wanted to display them in a special way, so I approached both Dick and Rachel and asked if they would be willing to put together something for me. Fortunately, they both agreed! Dick did his usual outstanding job in creating a true "showcase" for me to display my books and Rachel painted two beautiful oil paintings to complement the cases. I asked Rachel if she would be willing to set forth in oil her vision of Carrie at the prom for "Carrie." As for "The Stand", I asked if she would create her vision of Trashcan Man since he is one of my favorite and most memorable characters from the book. Their work arrived a few days before Christmas. Needless to say, they both delivered:
