The shining was better. What is more scary than a normal average guy being possessed and then taking a roque mallet and trying to kill everyone. The fact that he loves his family and the transition is slow makes it so much better.

Don't get me wrong Pennywise the dancing clown scared the hell out of me when I was younger, but Jack was far worse.

The Shining.

It was okay and parts of it were great. But cover to cover The Shining grabs you by the balls and doesn't let go.

And The Shining doesn't have kiddie sex saving the day against a giant spider.

See, I have major love for The Shining because it was the first King book I ever read and it scared the living crap out of me (okay, I was thirteen and in Catholic school, so I led a sheltered life, LOL).

Not so big a fan of IT. At all.

An author's work doesn't always improve with time; certainly some of King's earlier books outshine some of his later ones, but in this case I definitely see his evolution as a writer between the styles of these stories. It is like The Shining plus.
