I thought this was one of the weakest of the Bachman stories. I've read it once, and tried to give it a second chance. I wanted to like it, but I just couldn't make it through the second time. It gets a 2.

A 2 from me. What spoiled this book for me was Blaze talking to his dead 'buddy', and all the voices in his head. As far as I know, nobody has voices in their heads that tell them what to do, and if Blaze does have this condition, the book did not convince me that he did. I had the same problem with A BEAUTIFUL MIND. I just wasn't convinced.

You've probably never had any dealings with a bad Schizophrenic. I have and they hear things that we don't (voices in their head) and see things we don't. I once had to remove and elephant from an inmate's cell so he would calm down and go to sleep. Of course it wasn't there, but he saw it and it was as real to him as you or I, maybe even more real.

Best of the Bachman books. I wish he would polish up Sword In The Darkness the same as he did with Blaze and publish it. I love the edginess of his early work.
Sometimes I wonder what would have happened had Doubleday selected the Blaze manuscript over Second Coming back in 1973.

Doesn't really feel like a Bachman story, but I loved it anyway.
