Book Collection: Tito Villa

Well i have been thinking about starting a thread for a week or 2 now and getting a book back after being remarqued today has made me want to show everyone :) I have been collecting for a few years now and have a growing collection, also in the last 6 months i have been able to add to my Joe Hill collection.

So here goes ... my S/L of "The Colorado Kid", the Glenn Chadbourne version which i think has one of the best looking dust jackets i have seen. As i said i have just got it back from Glenn because he has done a remarque in pen and ink of a painting that Mr King bought off him from the book!

The next 2 are the Insomnia S/L which is one of my favourite book, the book also looks great, and the From a Buick 8 S/L which has been on my most wanted list for a loooooong time. It has to be one of the best looking books and i love the blue traycase, not a bad story either imo.

Hi Tom,


Thanks for letting me know you got the print ok. I have the ability to make prints using a high end inkjet printer from my home. Since I announced this feature, I am getting requests for prints from some images I had not expected I would ever produce, and many have been one time requests.I hate to disappoint a client so I am willing to fill a request.

Since I make the prints myself and sell them, the additional duties inherent with developing a signed limited numbered edition - having a constantly updated mailing list, keeping track of numbers within various editions, setting up a shopping cart system within my website, and other promotional and secretarial duties, are more effort than I can do without enlarging this aspect of my business drastically, which would reduce my actual creative painting time.

So, I decided for the few requests I am receiving for prints at this time, I will make up a print and once I get the color as close as I can to the original, print it out as an artist proof, ad a little drawing to make it a special item and hold onto the digital file for the time when I find it suitable to make that image into an official numbered edition.

"Artist proofs" traditionally are a small print run within a larger print run which he artist approves. It used to be the artist would work with a printer at a press to get the color right , when it was to the artist' s satisfaction, the printer would finish the edition using the prints the artist approved as his color guide. With lithography, and large printing press operations, the artist's proofs were an acknowledgement to this practice, but were actually just a percentage of the press run that were set aside and numbered as artist's proof even thought these were not necessarily the prints the artist approved.

Since I am printing these myself, I am personally proofing what comes of the inkjet and making color adjustments - so the initial prints I am doing are artist proofs, I just do not know how many will be in the actual print run - if indeed I ever do make a print run in the future. Which is why I did not number the artist proof. Welcome to the ever changing computer based print business!

Thanks Patrick ... anyway i know this isn't techniquely a book but im very proud of it! Im a massive Derby County Football Club fan (the club come a close 2nd behind my girlfriend for if she reads this :ninja: ) and the club has a rich, proud history, 1 of which was winning the FA cup the first time it was contested after World War 2 in 1946!

When cleaning out some stuff after my grandad passed away i found a programme from the semi-final of Derby County v Birmingham City which i showed to my gran and she gave me some cool news ... that she knew 1 of the 2 surviving members of the Derby County squad that won the trophy! So she took the programme off me and said i could have it back in a few weeks, so time went by and i visited my gran to find that i had some cool presents waiting for me ...

Yup i guess your right .. i came into abit of money when my grandad died i few years ago and with the interest rates in England at the moment its better to invest in books than put the money in the bank!

I know that i may have to sell some when i eventually get a place with my girlfriend but that probably won't be for another year with her still being at uni!

I also picked up a Vincent Chong book. Haven't had a lot of time to go through it but look forward to turning the pages.

The UK has done a very nice job on the releases. Starting to put the US to shame.

The Passage looks great. I've been trying to find out the number printed of the signed release. When the US publisher did Joe Hills Horns, I think the limited signed print run was 1010 or something like that.

Yeah i have no idea what the print run of the limited realease was, i will try to find out from somewhere ... just got my signed US edition from River Run books and its another nice looking book, but there is something about the UK black and white that looks different!

And im very impressed with Vinny chong, he's a proper nice guy to deal with too! I got a load of books back from him this morning which i can show off later :)

Thats a good guess but a book that we both love is 'The Shadow of the Wind' which is about a lost library. That's where the quote around the edge comes from too :)

Those are some great new photos of your collection! I really like the jacket art on your copy of The Secret Back of Things. CD did a nice job with that "3D" look. And the SoD / Colorado remarques are just awesome!

And of course, the custom Chong piece is wonderful!! I've had a thing for his art for some time. Great choice of quote around the border too, Zafon is a freaking genius.
